polling a file system

Hi gang! i hae a 20 gig drive full of image files (png, jpg, gif), and i would like to catalog the file name and location programatically. i'm wondering if and how it may be possible to run a query on zope that would scan and catalog a file system (even a windows hard drive), and populate a database based on file name, type, size, etc. the data entry part, i'm sure i have down, my big question here is how to scan the hard drive. guarded_getitem and zsql method results

It's been about 18 months since I last looked at Zope and a lot seems to have changed, especially in terms of security (eg. the administrator no longer being able to create objects etc). Most changes I've got to grips with but this one I can't figure out - I loop over the results from a ZSQL method which returns a variable mydate that I wanted to split into year, month, day values. <dtml-in ZSQL_SelectDates> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('myyear', _.string.split('mydate', '-')[0])"> ... other code </dtml-in> This causes an error - File <string>, line 2, in f (Object: guarded_getitem) File C:\PROGRA~1\ZOPE-L~1\bin\lib\string.py, line 114, in split File C:\PROGRA~1\ZOPE-L~1\lib\python\DateTime\DateTime.py, line 1106, in __getattr__ AttributeError: split OK, I know there are multiple ways for me to get around this - a) use a slice such as mydate[0:4] should work. b) force the variable 'mydate' into the REQUEST first. eg. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('mydate', mydate)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('myyear', _.string.split('mydate','-')[0])"> etc But what I really want to know is why can't I use string.split() on the variables returned from a ZSQL method ? I am successfully using the following code to select a random FSPollQuestion object to disply on every page: <dtml-with expr="_.whrandom.choice(Survey.objectValues('FSPollQuestion'))"> <dtml-var vote_small_html> </dtml-with> I would like to be able to go one step further and only call those objects whose "open" value is set to 1. Greetings Am forever looking for better/alternative ways to connect Zopesites and people [users] together... desktop network devices which are easy to install and use. For Zope-friendly tools which satisfy a "small cheap and out-of-control" approach. I have tried Director[with NetLingo], wxPython, and Flash5 [with ActionScript XMLObject]. Each has much to offer, but depending upon project requirements, are too complex or lack robust networking, or are platform-[uh]challenged. Yesterday I look again at REBOL which is known for its cross-platform, protocol-aware design simplicity. http://www.rebol.com I was delighted to discover a potent set of emerging additions for Shell cli, GUI construction, Database connectivity, security and more. problems installing MySQL/PostgreSQL DA

L.S., well trying all day long did not make it happen ... maybe the group can. Here we go: specs: SuSE 7.2 Python 2.1 Zope 2.4.0 and 2.4.1 Formulator and some other Products PostgreSQL and MySQL (those from the SuSE cdroms) I tried to install ZPoPyDA, untarring and moving to the Products dir, but zope came up with the error Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/zope/lib/python/OFS/Application.py", line 552, in import_product product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "/usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/ZPoPyDA/__init__.py", line 23, in ? from PoPy_browser import PoPyConnectionBrowser, addPoPyConnectionBrowser,addPoPyConnectionForm File "/usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/ZPoPyDA/PoPy_browser.py", line 67, in ? from PoPy_DA import PoPyConnection, database_type, addPoPyConnectionForm File "/usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/ZPoPyDA/PoPy_DA.py", line 26, in ? from PoPy_db import DB File "/usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/ZPoPyDA/PoPy_db.py", line 26, in ? raise "The PoPy module is not installed" The PoPy module is not installed when i restarted it. I also tried a lower version, but the same problem occurred. Second try, using psycopg, but when trying to ./configure it said: cannot build without mx headers and stopped. Installing egenix-mx-base from .rpm didn't help. still the same error. (I got similar errors with MySQL DA, but that's another problem ... maybe worthy information for someone.) Squid in front of Zope is the most powerful solution for web-access ACLs. I'm not sure if ZServer provides much in the way of blocking an IP address... This might best be dealt with at an outer router / packet-filter... Other than robots.txt, another option is to integrate code into your application that looks at REQUEST for the client IP does a RESPONSE.redirect() to a text error page to prevent the spidering... I think it is assumed by a lot of folks that if you need anything more powerful than code at the application level (i.e. ACLs or Layer 4 filtering), that you have Apache or Squid in front of it, if not a router/firewall. Hi, Iam not sure if this is the right forum to raise these points,if not please let me know where i can find help. Iam a new zope user and iam working in linux redhat 7.1.I have installed zope 3.3 and also installed parsed XML.I am developing a search in zope using xml ( in indian languages).I would like to know if i zope supports unicode and also which version of python supports unicode. Please help me with this information and also give some tips about where to find the relevent information. thanks Arun
