Fixing PDF downloads

Hi All, Our site has a number of PDF's (1-1.3MB) that we want people to be able to download. I gather from previous posts on this list that this can't be done with certain versions of Zope (we're hosting with 2.4.2 on Linux). I've seen that the errors surrounding this issue have been fixed in the latest development release and was wondering if there's a monkey patch (kudos to whoever came up with that term, we like it here) available to just fix this issue. I don't want the sites we host to be served with a dev. release, we just want that particular fix if possible. The documents themselves are created from word files, but I don't want to have to resort to putting these on the site as we're forcing the reader to own ms word and wait forever to download them. Converting them to HTML would be quite time consuming (there's no way I'm going to use the HTML output from word) and our need is getting pressing. I've also got to convince our ISP to apply the patch, if one exists, so I'd be grateful for any help or advice the list can provide. Thanks for your time, Simon.

urgent stability problem on production site

Hi, the ZPatterns list seems to be misconfigured - I cannot reach the list or someone at eby-sarna.com. So I post my problem here: Today we got online with a customer site and unfortunately instantly got a problem with ZPatterns or TransactionAgents, I don't really know. The site is quite heavily used - 40000 users that got a registration this night try to change their username and password now. All works very well and fast. The problem is that the Zope process dies once in a while - a while varies from 20 seconds to 20 minutes. I saw a relationship between login tries (login form) and the Zope process dying. Unfortunately this happens randomly - always when Zope dies shortly before that somebody tried a login. At the other side many logins work without Zope dying. The LoginManager is the only thing that uses ZPatterns anymore - so I think there lies the source of the problem. I don't know why TransActionAgents try to do something with the ZODB - all authenticatios are done against a MySQL database. Maybe Joachim may assist to explain the changes made to LoginManager. Odd wiki subscription behavior

I'm getting wiki emails from pages that I have absolutely no connection or subscription to: the two most recent were http://www.zope.org/Members/jeremy/CurrentAndFutureProjects/PerformanceMeasu rements and http://www.zope.org/Members/jeremy/CurrentAndFutureProjects/FastGlobals and I've gotten them over the past couple of days from some other projects too. Is this a "Zope bug" for the collector, or what? As in, how should I report this? Thanks Gary

indirection question

Hello-- I'm having a problem with indirection. I have a form object that has a header method. I also have a DTML method called showForm: <dtml-var "form.header()"> The problem is that the name of the form object that I'm calling is variable. From all of the Zope docs and howtos, _[var] should allow you to do indirection. Don't delete your users without care...

Just a little near-death experience I had here... In a CMF site, thus in an acl_users not at the root, the CMF administrator had a Manager account. This administrator created all the site, skins, and so on. He also has an account at the root, with the same password. Now came the time for a cleanup, and deletion of the unneeded account in CMF. Then everything went weird, the site mostly worked but acquisition seemed to not find things, ZopeSecurityPolicy failed in validate (for instance if I put standard_html_header besides the object I accessed it worked, but if I left it in the skins it didn't)... It finally dawned on me that all the skins and so on were owned by the now nonexistent admin in the sub-acl_users, and that this caused all those problems. I re-added him. I probably could have "taken ownership" of all skins and CMF machinery from the admin at the root but I wanted to play it safe. strip HTML-Tags

Hi, I hope that somebody has a solution for my problem: I need to strip Html-Tags from a text in ZOPE which I want so send via E-Mail. I pass the text as a variable to a python script which looks like this: import re strip_html_pattern = re.compile(r'<[^>]*>') plaintext = strip_html_pattern.sub('',text) return plaintext But it doesn't work. The script asks for password and username, although it has the "manager"-role. Does anybody know a way that works? Perhaps there is a less difficult way of doing this (I tried to strip the tags in the dtml-document directly, but it didn't work also). Greetings F. There is a way to do this, and that way is discussed in ZopeLabs (http://www.zopelabs.com/) Unfortunately, something is wrong with ZopeLabs. It is as though all the recipies in ZopeLabs were suddenly lost. As soon as ZopeLabs finds its head again, I would suggest looking there. They have (had) quite a few nice recipies there for day-to-day use of a Zope site.
