The message, "[Zope] new photos from my party!", was sent from long_sam.tw(a)yahoo.com.tw and was discovered in Allen May\Inbox located at MCSi/MCSINET/DAYEXCH01.

Letting Zope Find images directories

Dear all On our Zope site which also uses CMF we have hundreds of docs and even more images. Rather then have the following structure folder with html files with images\filename.gif references folder\images with graphics for html files I would like to have an images directory at the top level. As all of our files go the FrameMaker -> WebWorks route and many of the html files use the same images this would save lots of work when ftping the files to our Web site. Unfortunately it seems that there is a 5 level limit on how far up the directory tree Zope will look for the images before not finding them. Is this correct? Zope's database capability

I am in the process of evaluating Zope and so far it looks great. I have one question about Zope's database: How does it compare in performance to a relational database server? I am think about a scenario such as a recruitment site with a large database of jobs and candidates. Would the Zope database manage it OK or is it normal to run a database server such as mySQL alongside it for the heavy-duty stuff? Is it possible to build complex queries on the Zope database? Has anyone had any experience of building a big database-driven site in Zope, and if so did you build it all using the Zope database? OK, so that turned into more than one question, but any comments would be gratefully received (I am hoping to be persuaded that Zope is great) Cheers Tom.

use Zope's dynamically generated property forms

How can I use the property forms of a ZClass generated by Zope without the other stuff (Tabs) and with my own style sheet? I simply want to get the HTML-Code for the form. Zclass methods and intermethod communication

Lets say I start a new product and add Zclass, by the book. Firstly on the methods view, I add a python script that counts from 1 to 10, called count. Secondly I add a dtml-method that calls <dtml-in "count()"> ..... </dtml-in> Oops count object not found ? ! How do methods talk to eachother ?? I must be missing something Chris

MySQL and Zope products problems

We have recently tried to install MySQL on our server (SuSE Linux 7.3 based) as well as a few Zope products (ZMySQLDA, SQL Blender). The first signs of things not working was when the ZMySQLDA was showing up in Zope 2.4.3 as a broken product. Looking at the server itself indicated an import error during the starting up of Zope: "Zope could not import Products.ZMySQLDA" and "ImportError: No module named _mysql" We've installed an rpm of MySQL (v3.23.47-1) for Linux as well as MySQL Python v0.9.0 (which we had to build and install as it wasn't a binary version). According to the instructions for ZMySQLDA, it says: "If you are using a binary package of Zope, you need run setup.py with Zope's python executable. Otherwise, Zope (ZMySQLDA) will not be able to find _mysql.". What exactly does this mean when it talks about "...Zope's python executable"? The description above sounds exactly like our error, but we're not sure how to proceed. As you can probably tell, we're neither Linux, Python or Zope experts in this area! Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Richard H.

That doesn't (to me, at least) explain why it never crashes except under the one case, nor why I was told by zope.com that this had been seen before with RDBMS extensions. I'm entirely open to the idea of improper memory or reference management, but I'd suspect that, since the extension is a constant, that crashes would appear in all cases. That not being the case, I suspect the environment that's setting up the thread -- Python, in this case. If it *is* a matter of the extension itself, then an example of how it should properly be done would be in order. I've not seen any. ---------- Keith J. I think it has to do with particular C extensions that are coded improperly and thus cause segfaults. A "usual suspect" in those cases that there would be improper memory and/or reference management.

Printing some files

I am trying to find a good way for users to browse an office manual. They need to be able to search for content, view formatted (Word?, PDF?) docs and print them if they want. They also need to print groups of docs as well. What might be the best way to do this? Currently I'm using the MSWordDocument product, but I can't seem to add any more docs after upgrading to 2.4.0. Auto-copy objects from one folder to another?

I want to be able to make periodic backups of objects from one folder to another automatically; I would like to back up modified objects in one folder periodically to another nearly identical folder mounted on an external ODB via ExternalMount and ZEO. I've never considered what it would take to copy an object from one place to another, so I had a few questions: - Is the best solution just to take the _getObject() from folder1 and do a _setObject() in Folder 2? - How reliable is bobobase_modification_time for using to determine object modification time in Folder1? - Related to the above, might it work to wrap backed-up objects with an extra property containing the original mod time on the object when it lived in Folder1 as a means of comparison? The other thought I had was to figure out a way to get an MD5 or SHA hash for the object, but I figure that doing this on a folder with thousands of objects might be a total waste of CPU... - Any other thoughts? More Missing ZClasses in Folder View

I am experiencing a weird problem. I have a zclass that extends ZObject and ZObject Manager. I have added it to a folder and it will not show up in the left hand folder tree view within the manage interface. I have had the zclass there for months and just noticed that it is not in the folder view. I have other zclasses that extend the same base objects and they work just fine. Any one know what the problem is? I also noticed a similar problems with ZClasses created with ZClassEvents. The are missing the ID in the folder view AND in the Catalog?? Seems strange.
