Bug in Zope 2.6.0: Fix availiable

Zope 2.6.0 has a bug in DateTime.rfc822(). The bug appears when you are NOT in a DST timezone, causing a "Name Error: Global name localzone is not defined" error. This will affect many parts of your Zope operations, luckily, the fix is simple: - Download the fixed DateTime.py, from http://www.zope.org/Members/regebro/datetime_260_fix - Put the downloaded DateTime.py into the lib/python/DateTime directory, replacing the one that is there. - Restart the server. This fix is ONLY valid for Zope 2.6.0. Earlier versions of Zope does not have this bug, and this fix will be included in any future releases of Zope. I have recently discovered the product called Plone. Isn't this "just" an improvement on the CMF ? When could it be good idea not to use plone if you want to use CMF ?

Yes, I think this functionality is in the RedHat enterprise kernels (Oracle, for example uses this, I think). However, it should be said that the source RPMs for these kernels can be downloaded and used on other distros, if you really wanted to. I think the disadvantage for the RedHat setup is that it doesn't allow (last time I checked) for you to use something in /proc to set this, only a system call - so this is out of scope for a sysadmin to set. You have a dual processor machine, to double your speed use ZEO. Python doesn't use the second Processor. (see GIL Tread on comp.lang.python) Use the cacheing of user Information in the exUserFolder. (reduces access to postgresql DB) Look at your object, how long they take to run. Search the one that is slow and speed it up. A usefull Product to get execution times is Call Profile: http://www.zope.org/Members/richard/CallProfiler Use Caches if its possible. Pracitcal WebDAV usage

Hi all I have an installation with logins for users. Various folders contain the documents they should be able to manipulate. Ownership can be fixed. These documents are to be saved on the server and I intend to display these through the server (using the XML related products in Zope). The question is how does a user access the documents for editing? I am not able to login through Openoffice1.0.1. There has to be some point I am not taking care of. TIA Chetan

Just a quick question about it: What happens to the ongoing transactions? I'm using W2K and from other large-file copies I've done it looks like the original file is frozen to changes, unless it's completely uploaded in memory. Do I need to stop Zope in order to allow the OS to perform the copy? Hi all, The excellent way of sending email via python outlined at http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/991178206 (reproduced here for completeness) try: mailhost=getattr(context, context.superValues('Mail Host')[0].id) except: raise AttributeError, "cant find a Mail Host object" mMsg = 'a testful email message \n that contains a few line breaks. \n ~runyaga' mTo = 'runyaga(a)abc.com' mFrom = 'runyaga(a)xyz.com' mSubj = 'mail subject' mailhost.send(mMsg, mTo, mFrom, mSubj) Doesn't work on 2.6.0. You get the following traceback;  Looking at line 125 of MailHost.py you get this... self._send(mfrom, mto, messageText) Whereas on the 2.5.1 version you get this (after much header manipulations), self._send( headers, messageText ) The interface to 'send' hasn't changed though, def send(self, messageText, mto=None, mfrom=None, subject=None, encode=None): We are (were) using this a lot, sending a large quantity of email using Maildrop Host and some python scripts. Now, these scripts don't work. Can anyone shed some light on this? Many thanks Tone. Ps Lest people think I'm all over 2.6.0 - I really like the 'error_log' feature at the top level. Authentication with cookies instead of browser.

Help please! I'm building a comprehensive education resource based on Zope for my school, and I'm trying to learn Zope internals. We are running Apache 2.0.43 with mod-Perl 5.8.0 and Zope 2.5.1, currently on the same machine. Apache serves some content and uses virtual host and proxy for content in Zope with a VirtualHostMonster. Authentication of protected resources works like this: when a request for a protected resource is received, Apache calls a Perl script to check a special cookie from the user's browser. The cookie has the user name and a hash of several values. If the cookie is absent or invalid, the user is directed to a secure campus server which asks for the user name and password, authenticates it against a Kerberos system, places the cookie and redirects the user back to our site. At that point the Perl script finds a valid cookie and allows access. All of this works perfectly! I can get the cookie in the REQUEST object in Zope. I can populate Zope with users. I would like to use Zope's built in role mechanism for permissions. How can I make Zope get the user name from the cookie instead of from the user's browser? I am happy to subclass existing Python code to make this happen. I assume that Zope sends a WWW-Authenticate response header to the user's browser, but I have not yet been able to find the class that does this, and I have not found this question asked before on the lists. Any knowledge or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tom Engel
