Confusion Regarding Perl Script Object

The Zope Book describes Zope Perl Script objects and says that they are like Zope Python Script objects. The Zope Book does not, however, show any pictures of using the ZMI interface to create a Perl Script object or specifically mention the ZMI as a means of running Perl scripts. I have been able to run Perl scripts as external methods, but my ZMI does not show any Script(Perl) object the way it does the Script(Python) object. I am running Zope 2.4.3 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.3, and freebsd4. Are Perl Script objects accessible from the ZMI just as Script(Python) objects are? Zope on a Zaurus??

Hello list, Has anyone managed to get Zope running on a Zaurus (Linux PDA)? A few days ago, it occurred to me that, while it's painful juggling a laptop on a train, the Zaurus is fine and I could use the commute time for something other than looking at everyone else. Success! (was: efs fails to connect to any hosts)

About a week ago I complained to both the Zope and XEmacs beta mailing lists that I couldn't connect to remote hosts using efs from my Mac Powerbook running 10.2.1 and XEmacs 21.5.b9. Specifically, I wanted to connect to Zope's FTP server. I couldn't even get the server to detect a connection. I ignored the problem for several days then revisited it today. It turns out my efs-ftp-program-args were set incorrectly. The default value for this variable is '("-i" "-n" "-g" "-v") As a carryover from my previous Linux laptop, I had set it to '("-i" "-u" "-g" "-v") in my init.el file. I no longer recall why I needed "-u" but not "-n" under Linux, but "-u" at least it means something entirely different under MacOSX. I now have this setting in my init.el file: (setq efs-ftp-program-args '("-i" "-g" "-v" "-e" "-n" "-A")) Both the -e (disable command line editing) and -A (force active mode) seem to be required for the version of ftp on my machine. Without -e it can't detect the remote host type if I connect to ftp.xemacs.org. Without -A it attempts to send an EPRT command, which many (most?) ftp servers appear not to understand. (Perhaps efs can be trained to ignore EPRT and EPSV errors.) To the XEmacs beta folks, let me know if you want more input regarding the -e and -A flags. Can page templates be the default object created?

If I create a new object via FTP it seems to always turn up as a DTML document. Is it possible to make the default object a page template? I find it rather cumbersome to have to create a page template in the management interface, then open it in XEmacs. I'm using Zope 2.5.1. Bug ? in "lines" properties

Hi, lines = somePropertyManager.getProperty('aLinesProp') ... returns always... ['', 'line1', 'line2'...] I always got an empty string at the start of the list and always need to change this by... lines = [l for l in somePropertyManager.getProperty('aLinesProp') if l != ''] --Gilles

Managing default_browser from the ZMI

To all who worked on the 2.6 release, great work! I'm just now starting to process the changelog, and try to understand all the latest stuff. The one thing that kind of caught my eye is that during the first alpha release, there was an entry that stated: - added browser_default hook to ZPublisher. This allows objects to specify the path to the default method that the publisher calls when the object is published. The default for objects not defining browser_default is still 'index_html' for bw compatibility. A ZMI configurable browser_default implementation has been added to ObjectManager. You can configure browser_default for OMs via a new "settings" management tab. which maps to this 2.6 proposal explaining the intentions of default_browser: http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/ObjectTypeAssociationAndDeathTo… This sounds like a very exciting feature, one that I hope didn't get lost in the shuffle of getting 2.6 out the door. A quick glance at OFS.ObjectManager and ZPublisher doesn't show any sign of this new behavior. Now, I haven't digested the rest of the changelog or the source yet, but the release announcement does list "Addition of a new default view setting ability" as one of the new features. Was this deferred to 2.7 (which is completely understandable)? Is help needed to bring it up to the Wiki proposal level? Inquiring minds would love to know. Still looking to bury index_html, Eron

standard_error_message not being used?

I am experiencing a bit of oddness - I customized standard_error_message in the zope root, yet errors are still displayed with the default standard_error_message. It's like it's using some internal standard_error_message. There are no other standard_error_message files flying around. What could be causing this? Zope 2.5.1 binary (py 2.1.3), on Red Hat 6.1
