Hello, I've create a small website along these lines: index_html is a DTML which uses various scripts and parts in the current folder. One of these parts is "contentLayout" which is a Python script which in turn reads "contents". This works very well. I get problems when I add subfolders. Example: I add a subfolder "news" which contains the same structure as the Elvis tutorial Step 11: I add a DB connector, a "getNEWS" DTML and then in "contents", I write: <dtml-in getNEWS> <dtml-var date> -- Reported by <dtml-var name> <dtml-var description> <hr> </dtml-in> Unfortunately, when I browse "http://.../test/news", I get KeyError getNEWS The overall layout looks like this: index_html contentLayout contents news/getNEWS news/contents index_html reads contentLayout which reads context.contents. This all seems to work but when "news/contents" is read, "news/getNEWS" is not found. Interestingly enough, when I add a Script "news/test" which contains: return "Test" and change news/contents to: <dtml-var test> then I get no error but a page with my complex layout and the word "Test" at the correct place. Then I tried to replace the DTML news/contents with a Python script and voila: It works! context.getNEWS() returns the desired result. Me: If I try to visit /admin@localhost:8021/ from XEmacs it correctly does the little efs dance, however, I always get the error message: *ftp admin@localhost* seems not a pty. Kill? (y or n) Some more investigation trying to connect to other ftp servers suggests this is a general problem with XEmacs. global name 'localzone' not defined?

Hi all, Zope 2.6.0 gives me the following error when setting cookies and stuff that calls DateTime's rfc822(): global name 'localzone' not defined. (in DateTime, line 1441) Indeed 'localzone' is not defined in DateTime.py. Changed the reference to 'timezone' and it works. Is it the way it should work? Or should I do something else? First, IMHO, while the GoF Design Patterns books is one of my favorite recent reads, I think this is a bit of a misdirection for the poster's problem at hand. Zope product development often does not favor idioms of the GoF suggestions, such as favoring composition to inheritance. Frameworks such as the CMF that really attempt to go the extra mile to have smart, component-oriented, pluggable design are a notable exception. Zope 3 experimentation is largely based on interoperating components and compositional patterns. In the long term, I would take the Python product route. The Zope Bible is not a bad read for doing product development, though it is likely the road to getting there will involve some mailing list questions... In the short term, I'd at least use the CMF as a starting point, and even consider ZClasses for your initial prototyping. My approach to this problem domain would start with the CMF and end with hybrid storage patterns, and a few custom content types for the items of a book "catalog." I would then extend those content types with skins that decorate that content using ZSQL methods as skin methods to keep related tabular material in a relational database, keyed off of the path/identifier of the content item in the CMF. In the simplest case, if the book entries themselves are the center of your universe, make them CMF content stored in portal folders in the ODB and add actions/skin-methods around them that decorate them with associated content in an RDB. This may involve using ZClasses as a prototyping tool for CMF content, using the FAQ example on cmf.zope.org as a guide. But once you can create this, the rest of your work in primarily in skins and RDB work (setup databases, do your ZSQL methods, etc), which can be done entirely though the web, with very little need to get into anything really ugly. extra parameters in dtml-var

Hello, I have searched the internet and the maillinglist, but haven't found any answer. Why is it not possible to pass extra parameters to the called script with <dtml-var ...> in the following way: Example: <dtml-var some_other_dtml_method say="hello"> with some_other_dtml_method: <dtml-if say> I say: <dtml-var say> </dtml-if> O.K. there is the way: <dtml-var expr="some_other_dtml_method( _, REQUEST, say='Hello')"> But in my opinion this is unnessecary complicated, the first way would be more intuitive and it shouldn't be so complicated to implement it. So, was this discussed earlier and is there a reason for not doing it so? Andreas

apache ssl management pages

I recently got ssl working on my system and wanted to use ssl for the management pages of zope. I'm using apache + zope + vhm. I'd like to be able to type the normal http url and if a management screen is viewed have it "redirect" (is that the right term) everything through secure pages. Everything is working now but I have to actually type https://... (oh, the agony) rather than just http://... In other words, I'd rather just type .../manage at the end and just log in and start working. Currently, that isn't happening, I have to manually type in the https or it doesn't get encrypted.
