Unix: Vanishing Group Ids associated with Zope process ?

Hello *, I observed that under Debian woody, Zope 2.5.1 runs under the user id 'www-data'. The python OS command os.getgroups() gives me an empty list when called from an external method, although I had configured the user 'www-data' to be the member of several groups. If, on the other hand, I run python with my user id from the command line as a normal user, the command os.getgroups () gives me all the groups am a member of (that's what I expected). Please enlighten. (Why I need this: I need appropriate group rights for some 'posix.system' calls from an external method for an interim fix kludge...) (Just to avoid confusion beforehand: I am *not* talking about process groups but about the groups the user running zope is in.) -- Holger Blasum

Stupid Bug

Hi, Try something: Create a folder in "Root Folder", for example "StupidBug". Inside this folder create a DTML Method "index_html" and inside it write "<dtml-var REQUEST>". Ok, now, in other browser window, access ".../StupidBug", you should see that you are "Anonymous User" right. Now change the address field of your browser to ".../StupidBug/manage_main", login as meneger. Now change your browser field address again to ".../StupidBug" and you should see that you are "Anonymous User", at least this is what I see. Stupid isn't it?! Wrapping objects: __getattr__ weirdness

I'm trying to write a pretty transparent wrapper product in python, which will have one property, source_path, which contains a (string) path to another object. I can resolve this path to the object, no problem; but I cant' see how to delegate attribute requests to it. my __getattr__ fails with (snip - complete traceback later): File "/zope/Zope_software_home/lib/python/OFS/Traversable.py", line 95, in unrestrictedTraverse self=self.getPhysicalRoot() TypeError: object of type 'string' is not callable Which is weird, because I can do getPhysicalRoot() on both the wrapper and the wrapped object and it ain't a string.... Before I go further I'll explain the motivating scenario. We have four zope sites (on one server) which have a fair amount of content overlap. This content is not in a consistent location across sites (e.g. we might have www.site1/blah/bleh/foo and www.site2/blarf/foo) We have a non-technically-minded, overworked content manager and an ever-expanding mountain of content. Currently, her job is nearly impossible and i'm charged with creating the solution. So I thought I would: 1) build a single cmf site for content management (cmf also provides other things we need, so it seems to be a good fit). 2) customize workflow so that one stage of publishing consists of specifying where you want the content to appear, and then wrapper objects are created which will render the content in context *and* provide access to the wrapped object's properties. e.g. you'd get a form in which you can type in some variant of "site1/blah/bleh/foo" and "www.site2/blarf/foo", and we'd automagically create wrappers at those locations which point back to this content. 3) customize the management skins so that deleting or moving the source content also updates the wrappers. (sounds like zope 3 will make this easier, but who knows when that will be.) Alternative solutions to the above scenario would be welcome, but in the meantime, here's what I'm trying now for the wrapper product: # ... management methods snipped, they're working fine def get_source_object(self): """ return the (aq-wrapped) object referred to by source_path. Hairy problems deinstalling zfs???

It didn't help, though :-( The problem is that my objects complain they don't have a __before_publishing_traverse__ attribute after zfs has been removed. SOmehow the before_traverse method of the zfs hooks get registered with the objects (or the other way round), but for the life of me, I can't find out how this works or how to remove it... The main problem is that direct traversal of my own objects is broken and the site is dependent on it at some crucial places. Now, I find this very hard to debug - poking in the dark with a black stick. sigh. Rik Hoekstra

I don't think so. I tried that. I tried Netscape 7.0 too. If the address is ".../StupidBug/" or ".../StupidBug/index_html" everything goes OK! Can't install from source

Hello group. I've used Fink 0.4.1 to install MySQL 3.23.49-2 & libraries on my OS X 10.1.4 server. I've also installed MySQLDA-2.0.8, Python 2.1.2, and Zope 2.5.1. Now I'm trying to build & install MySQL-python-0.9.2, which is the final step to allow me to make connections to MySQL from Zope. In the setup file, I plugged in my own paths to my sql libraries (/sw/include/mysql and/sw/lib/mysql). The first part of the build completes, but the cc fails. I think it can't find a library (see bottom of message). However, I compared my existing MySQL installation on another machine with this new installation, and they seem to have identical files, so I don't know what's missing. Does anyone have experience with this combination of packages?
