http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/productList/mxmRelations It has been in production use for a long time, and the older version 0.2 has been relased for a long time without any complaints. So I guess it is time to call it stable :-) What is new? The most important change is that it is now possible to keep relations when an object is moved. This was a bit difficult before, but two new methods has been added to solve this. It is easier to create web forms to make relations. Also the documentation has been expanded a bit. What does it do? It solves a few common problems with Zope's object oriented database. Normally in a relational database some tables will be used to show relations between rows. It can be both "one to many", and "many to many". In Zope, doing the same thing is more difficult than it has to be. mxmRelations solves this problem in a rather simple way. enjoy! Max M

unexplained shutdown

Hi all I am running Zope 2.4.3 on Redhat 6.2 to serve a solitary website. This has been running for nearly two months now but has been problematic over the last couple of weeks. At that point the Zope server began shutting itself down, firstly only occassionally but now it is happening every night and I must restart Zope every morning. I have looked at the Z2.log file for any indication of what is happening but without any clarification. Has anyone else encountered a similiar problem or could you perhaps suggest what may be going wrong. TIA Tony

Zope and qmail

hi, I am running several Zope instances on different ports on a machine, which uses qmail as MTA. Now trying to sent: <dtml-sendmail smtphost="mail.myserver.de"> To: Juergen Osterberg <osterberg(a)30doradus.de> From: "Zope Server" <zopeserver(a)myserver.de> ... results in: Error Type: SMTPRecipientsRefused Error Value: {'osterberg(a)30doradus.de': (553, "sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)")} Of course, I dont want to configure my machine as a wide-open relay. Which should not be necessary, as the Zope instances sending the mail are on the same machine, anyway. The question is, how do I have to configure qmail that it accepts my Zope instances as local mail clients (or twist Zope to make it so)? thanks and best regards Juergen

Variable names in records

I have a form with radio button entry that I'm trying to pass to a database. I found a workaround by hawkfish which solved the problem of how to get the radio buttons working within dtml-in using 'sequence-number' (otherwise the whole form is just one button). This is the only method I've found that works. The record comes out as: [{'FieldKey': '1', 'description1': '1', 'item1': 'test', 'quantity1': 'test'}, {'FieldKey': '2', 'description2': '2', 'item2': 'test', 'quantity2': ''}, etc My variable is 'description', but in the record it's 'description1', 'description2' etc. How do I render it as <dtml-var description>? I think this has something to do with splitting the string but I don't know much about that. Where do I start? Many thanks. Regards, Matthew.

You likely want to lookup JPE. Never used it, but it is supposed to be a transparent bridge from Java to CPython and vice versa. It would be more convincing to do this, however, if PathIndexes would support an absolute path for the contents (and only the contents) of a specific folder (not incl. its children)... as of now, they cannot (only a hierarchy). You can create your own FieldIndexes on the path to accomplish the same goal, but without this modification, Catalog queries are not a 100% replacement for objectValues() and other ObjectManager methods... Like a good citizen, I feel compelled to document the server install problem I had. (Thanks by the way to Mr. Hamid for clueing me about the problem). The problem was permissions and omissions in the documentation provided with zope 2.60beta 1. 1. The owner of the gzip file needs to be the user to run zope. 2. That zopeuser should also own the directory into which the zope zipped file will be unzipped. 3. The user who runs the ./start script should be the user that runs apache, not root or zopeuser. Actually by configuring zope with -u apacheuser -g apachegroup , it already puts the right permissions in place, so that the user of the start script is apacheuser. Although I understand that the documentation is running after a moving target (I am myself a technical writer), I am finding that the documentation in the zipped file doesn't mention newer and more direct installation alternatives. I found Regebro's document on http://www.zope.org/Members/regebro/Zope_and_Apache to be unusually helpful. I was wondering. I hate to clutter this mailing list with newbie problems. Have you ever thought about setting up bulletin board space dedicated to typical newbie problems (of which my own is a pathetic example). I found, for example, that the gentoo user forums http://forums.gentoo.org/ do an incredible job of documenting user problems and solutions and separating newbie problems with other kinds of problems. (I might have forum space to contribute...)
