Hi! I know this is Zope mailing list, but I would like to ask a Python question. I am new in Zope and Python, but I would like to compile Python myself in order to install Zope 2.5.0. What standard configure I should set in compiling Python for the purpose of learning Python and the requirement of compiling Zope? eg. ./configure --prefix=??? --??? I am using Debian 2.2r5, kernel 2.2.19. Sincerely, Terence Ng

Well, I ended up fixing the problem in my product, then I decided I wanted a way to do the same thing through the ZClass Subobjects management tab. So I made some changes to ZClasses/ObjectManager.py and ZClasses/dtml/subobjects.dtml and viola! It works beautifully. Now my question is this, should I submit these as patches at all? If so, having never done so before, how do I go about it? Following is the original message, and attached are the modified files. ---original message--- If I create a ZClass, ZC1, that subclasses ZClasses: ObjectManager and then create another, ZC2, that subclasses ZC1. As long as I don't save changes in the subobjects tab of ZC2, it will inherit the subobjects settings from ZC1. But as soon as I do save any changes, there is then no way to unset the subobjects and return it to the inherited subobjects. I think the way to do this would be to write a python method of my python base ZClass that calls the delClassAttr method from ZClasses.ZClass. But I can't seem to get this to work. cutting/pasting

Hello, I'm trying to use manage_cutObject and manage_pasteObject from a DTML and cannot figure out which permission setting to change to map it to a role. Could someone help me, or point me in the general direction of some documentation on the subject? Thanks, Damon.

Hellau, i' m trying to compile python 2.1.2 with the "LFS" to run on SuSe Linux 7.3. I' ve read about the large file support in the python docs. So i used the following export CFLAGS='-D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64' OPT="-g -O2 $CFLAGS" and do: /.configure --without-pymalloc --with-threads ...that's works fine so i do "make test". ---------> The test for the large file support fails (platform does not have large file support) I' ve searched about python's and zope's mailing-archives but i found nothing which makes me really happy. I know that Python 2.2 therefor works well with the LFS but i have to use python 2.1.2 because 2.2 is not recommended for the use with Zope. Has somebody an idea? Best regards Ralph

commiting a transaction in a python script

When I read the Zopebook it seemed to be quite understandable, but looking at some scripts now, I think I somehow mixed it up. What´s the difference between "this()", "self" and "context"? Initialising DateTime object from SQL query

Hello everyone, Sorry in advance for the elongated description of my problem, I just want to make sure I include all the information that might be required... I have a dtml-method which will automaticly create date selection elements for a form. I pass it a default date in the form of a DateTime object. The value of the form elements is then initialised to this date. Normally I just run it like this: <dtml-var expr="selectDate_dtml(_.None,_,id='s',default=_.DateTime())"> Which sets the default date to the current one, and this works fine. However, sometimes I want to initialise this bit of the form with a date extracted from an SQL query. I can access the field in question without a problem as a normal variable: <dtml-var date_start> displays as 2002/02/08 Now, I know that this format is appropriate to pass to the constructer for DateTime, because when I type in a date by hand, it works fine: <dtml-var expr="selectDate_dtml(_.None,_,id='s',default=_.DateTime('2002/02/08'))"> However, when I pass the date_start variable to my dtml method as _.DateTime(date_start), I get the following error message: --- Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: TypeError Error Value: unsupported operand type(s) for / --- It looks like it isn't passing this variable to DateTime as a string, so how do I make it do that? Mixins and Extension Classes

Is it possible to use mixin classes with extension classes? I am playing around with adding an additional base class to Folder, but the usual way of mixing in classes doesn't seem to work (i.e. Folder.__bases__ = (MyClass,)+Folder.__bases__).
