Zope on solaris for the beginner.

This is very humble-ing. Hopefully someone is a salvation waiting to happen. I'm new to Zope and could really use a little help installing. I'm on a Solaris Box. I've Downloaded Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc ./install -u root all looks good Next I try to ./start -u root All goes well until the install seems to get hung up on Unix socket: /path to Zope-2.5.0/var/pcgi When I try to ./start (with no other options) I get: File /path to Zope/zy.py, line 688, in? IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/path to Zope/var/Z2.pid' I imagine this time the error comes from not starting as root. That and the fact that this file does not seem t be in the "var" folder. basically i can't bet to mymachine.com:8080/manage So I haven't got this up and running yet. WebDAV question: My FTPstat and FTPlist are never reached

Seaching zcatalog 2.4.2, boolean problem

I am trying to get a zcatalog boolean search working in Zope 2.4.2 My objective is to get the following boolean format to work with zcatalog indexes: (indexA=valueA) AND (indexB=valueB OR indexB=valueC) where: indexA is a zcatalog Text index indexB is a zcatalog Field index valueA/B/C are entered by the user through an html form I have tried the following dtml: <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'indexA' : 'valueA', 'indexB' : 'valueB'}, {'indexA' : 'valueA', 'indexB' : 'valueC'})"> The repetition of indexA is required as .searchResults performs boolean AND within {} and OR between {} {}. Newbie: max. size of REQUEST form variables?

Hola Zopistas, Is there a limit to the size of form variables you can pass to REQUEST? I have a custom zclass (an academic vita) I'd like users to edit without looking at the management screens for its instances. So I set up form/edit methods in the class but then found the following problem: 1. if I populated all the variables of the vita object with the properties management view, all the properties showed up correctly in the non-management-view form. well and good. 2. however, if I then changed anything in that non-management-view form, submitted it, and then directed the browser back to the index_html view of the changed vita object, something choked on the first big textarea variable ("essays"). the resulting index_html truncates the essays field, and no other variables subsequent to essays gets passed to REQUEST and updated. Zope binary distributions

Possibly dumb questions, but what the hell. For a binary Zope distribution, is it built with or without PCGI? We use FastCGI, so we build without PCGI. I'll assume that binary distributions are built with PCGI. Is there a way to get a binary Zope distribution from D.C. without the PCGI? Given the recent problems we're having with needing certain build options set and specific versions for Python, it would be nice if we could rely on a binary Zope distribution and not have to second guess that we are screwing up somewhere in the build process. Am I missing the boat somewhere? Thanks, Erik

sendmail problem

Hi, When creating a form that sends mail I get a following error: STMPDataError Error Value: (554, 'No date field given') Any suggestions? (Sorry if it is obvious, but I'm not sure what goes wrong. I think that I have selected the right SMTP host). Many thanks, Agata

To achieve du-like behaviour, I guess it would be nice to recurse into sub-folders too :-) It should'nt be too hard either. "upload local files" permission

I was looking through my security setup and noticed that "upload local files" permission was set for anonymous. I do not remeber setting this so I presume this was the default. Is this good idea? What exactly does it permit? thanks Daniel

Hi Oleg Please give us more info's on your configuration (HW / SW / compile details). I'm really looking hard for a threading solution on Solaris but up till now no one seems to have a threading Solaris! So if you have something please let us know. Olivber Erlewein
