As I understand things, right now my data is located in the 'var' file of the zope executable folder by default. How do I relocate this?

Sorry if this question was already answered before but I couldn't find it. I just downloaded Zope 2.5.0 and installed in my computer. I created a user and a password during the installation process. When I access Zope for the first time it simply doesn't accept the password I have just created. I tried to reinstall but the same thing happens. I read in the site that you can change it using the password script but I know nothing about Python. So if anyone could help me. Thanks, Marcelo

M$ Webfolder in Win2K & Zope WebDAV

Hi, Has anyone successfully used M$ Webfolder in Windows 2000 to get WebDAV access to Zope? I got to "My Network Places" -> "Add Network Place" and whatever I put in the box that shows, I get: "The folder you entered does nto appear to be valid. Please choose another." I've tried doing this into Shane's TCPWatch and there's no HTTP request actually going out from M$, so, dos anyone know what I put in that box to tickle M$'s in the right way to get it to actually do something? cheers, Chris

In working thru the examples in the Zope Web Applications book, it is demonstrating the use of python scripts. I have the following code elements: myhome.html: <dtml-let page_body="'myhome.stx'"> <dtml-var standard_dtml_wrapper> </dtml-let> standard_dtml_wrapper: <html> <head> <title><dtml-var title_or_id></title> </head> <body> <dtml-var banner> <dtml-call choose_page_body> </body> </html> And finally, choose_page_body (type script) from Products.PythonScripts.standard import special_formats if page_body : if page_body[-4] == ".stx" : return special_formats['structured-text'](_[page_body]) else : return _[page_body] else : return default_page In thiscase, I also bound namespace=_ My problem is that when trying to view this, I get an error on page_body indicating that the python script knows nothing about it. Since this is all originating from within the <dtml-let> block, I thought it would carry thru. Since it isn't, how do I fix this?

Yes they are on the same port. BUT I don't want to run both instances at the same time. I just want to run the new OR the old one. The problem is that: 1) from the windows service control panel, stating the 2.5 service give a error: 'Could not start service Zope blabla..) BUT it start zope correctly, just this service status info stay empty. Consequence: from the same control panel I can not stop the service. 2) when I connect to localhost:8080/manage and restart zope, it does not restart. Except thoses start/stop problems everithing is ok. Note: I can start zope 2.5 from a command line, it's ok. But when I connect to localhost:8080/manage ->control panel, there is no restart button. But I think it's normal, probably some not detached from terminal or daemon stuff... Newbie Questions

Ok, I've just read the New Riders Zope Web Application Development & Content Management book, and I've got some questions I hope some kind soul out there will help me with. From what I can see, Zope is just what I've been wishing for. I only hope I have enough brain cells left to learn these 'new tricks'. 1. I have Zope installed in a Windows XP environment. Is it possible to move the data.fs file to a location other than the program executable 'var' directory. Our executables are under a different backup schedule than data files. My other option would be to move the entire zope directory over to a data drive. 2. In the book, it mentions that Zope Templates have to be total and complete html documents. If I want to create separate items like banners and navbars that will get sucked into all pages, I assume that means they have to be methods that are somehow included into a template? In other words, you can't have a portion of a page defined as a template as I understand this. 3. The book talks about creating a zope on a particular port. Does this mean that I have multiple zope services running, or is it possible to have a single service monitor multiple ports? 4. In the application case study, the book said that experience has shown that it's best to have a folder at the root before the top level folder of your site, as follows: / (root) Top/ Top Level Folder SiteRoot/ (Actual Site Root Folder) Can someone explain the value of that one additional folder layer? I'm not seeing it yet and I'm pretty sure it's just because I am missing something.

Python And Zope Job Market

Hello Jesse, Maybe this is your first problem on Solaris...... But it won't be the last : 3 months ago, like U, i choose Zope for building few Intranet/Extranet sites on Solaris.... .... but Python's multithreading implementation doesn't work on Solaris. Zope seems to work in a mono-threading mode on Solaris : the problem is still present on Python 2.1.2, maybe it's solved on Python 2.2 (but i'm not sure). But Zope doesn't work with Python 2.2.... .... so we had to install our sites on NT Servers in order to work with Zope (we don't have others Unix systems for production sites in our compagny)...... :-( Zope on Solaris is still a bad choise and i wonder why doesn't it mentionned on Zope.org, i wonder..... ???????? dtml-var zope_quick_start

Hi! After I installed Zope, and looked in index_html, it shows: <dtml-var standard_html_header><dtml-var zope_quick_start> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> I can find standard_html_header and standard_html_footer, but not zope_quick_start. And I cannot find it in other folders. How can it directs the URL to /QuickStart. How can I use this method to direct the URL to /abc for example?
