CVSFile - can´t update file in sandbox

hi there, i am running CVSFile 0.7 on Zope 2.5.0; when i try to update a checked out file in the sandbox with a local file (i.e. upload that file), zope keeps telling ma "... Invalid request The parameter, externalfile_content, was omitted from the request...." This only happens when uploading binary files - e.g. Images -, text files work just normal. Creating new binary files and committing them to cvs works as well... Any suggestions out there? - Thank you! - Oliver _____ To understand recursion, we first have to understand recursion.

Dear sirs, i'm a software developer from germany and actually writing a web-based application. This application is based on zope, because in my opinion zope is perfect for this. I've developed this application as a python based product, the first version written in dtml was too slow. Everything has worked fine, till I wanted to develop a new feature. In my application I'm using a server-based sessions-management, which stores my object instances in a sessions-directory, which itself is stored in the ZODB. Now one of these objects has a dictionary, which stores multiple subobjects, for example the main object is a company, which has subobjects representing contact-persons in this company. Now I've written functions, which allow the user to add/change and remove contact-persons for a company. To let this work, the companies object with all the subobject is stored in the ZODB. Now the problem is, that zope seems to forget the contents of the dictionary. You can add, remove and change the subobjects, but suddenly the dictionary contains only that subobjects, which where in at the beginning. Example: The companies instance is stored into a ZODB Folder with the id "Company10". Now this instance has a property "contacts", which has a directory named "__items__". The contacts itself are represented by another object, which instances are stored in contacts.__items__. So if you call Company10, there are 3 contacts saved into __items__. Company10.contacts.__items__{1:Contact Instance at ..., 2:Contact Instance at..., 3:Contact Instance at ...} You can now add, remove and change the contacts for the company, but suddenly all changes made for the __items__ dictionary are lost. Maybe you've deleted all of the initial instances, and added two new contacts, your changes disappear and the dictionary contains only the initial three contacts. I couldn't find out, why or when this is happening. BUT: if I start the zope server in debug mode, everything is working fine ! I started the development with zope 2.4.0, but even the update to 2.4.3 doesn't solved the problem. I've read all the changes made since 2.4.0 to 2.5.0, but I couldn't find an entry matching my problem. I then thought to pickle the objects myself and save them to the linux filesystem. But it's not possible to pickle my objects, cause there are references to the zope ZODB and the REQUEST object, which is obviously not pickable. Do you know how to solve this problem ? I don't know, what to do else. In general, the whole application is based on the mechanism, storing objects and subobjects into the ZODB, cause HTTP is a connection-less protocol. ZClasses and non-ZMI interface (was: how to add a ZClass instance from Python)

I'm trying to get a basic undestanding of the various techniques available in Zope to create a very common kind of application: something where you have one (or more) classe that implement your "business domain data and logic" and you want a GUI to create/edit/list/delete instances of those classes. For any part of the job there are many different ways to do the needed thing and I would like to explore at least some of them in a as-simple-as-possible example. For each approach I would like not only to find "a" solution, but I want to find out how to write it in a way that allows it to be changed with another one without hurting too much the rest of the app. For example to go from plain ZClasses in Folder to Python Products with Specialist without rewriting the interface (presentation) stuff. I think Zope has the needed "flexibility" but, still, one has to find out how to take advantage of it. When I say "application's parts" and "different ways to do things" I mean: For the back-end: 1) pure ZClasses (everything done via ZMI), 2) ZClasses based on external Python classes, 3) pure Python ZClasses. For the storage: 1) instances added to "plain" Folders and "saved" in ZODB, 2) database backend (with hand-made SQL methods), 3) ZPatterns (with Specialists, Data-Skins and Racks). For the interface: 1) the ZMI and the automagically (for ZClasses) created stuff, 2) something you roll yourself. And finally (at least for the HTML/Web newbie, like me) you have to survive the various "technical" ways to set up the interface: 1) to frame or not to frame, 2) to javascript or not, 3) use links (<a heref...>) or buttons, 4) how to substitute for the missing "modal" windows (that is how to jump to another page and come back home). The ZopeBook examples, other "known" examples like Poll, ZPatterns examples (Attendance and Lunch) do show different ways to do different things (also with different "style" depending on the writer) but they do not (seems to me) explain the "why" and the "how else". I would like to make one thing in many ways, understanding (and commenting) the pros and cons. I will surely ask for help on the list, so I hope I'll be able to give back some "zexp" or some "how-to". If you are still reading, here comes some initial stuff! See attaches for: - zexp's of the Product (import in Control_Panel/Products), - zexp of the example (import wherever you want), - kind of how-to for both (for your eyes only). I'll wait for feed-back (i.e. interest) before sending more stuff to the list (sorry no personal web-site yet for that). bye, Luca.

Need Zen advice, how to organize invoice items which I'm considering making folderish

I have a particular business process which I'd like to model in Zope (coming from a relational database), and I need some advice from those who have already had the Zen moment. This process is heavily invoice-centric, and almost every object (currently, table in my relational model) carries a reference to the InvoiceID. The other 'tables' are mostly 'things that happen to invoices', such as customer inquiries, confirmations, damage reports, etc. Some things can happen more than once. Therefore, I'm thinking of making the Invoice a folderish product class with properties and methods germane to its workflow, such as deliver(), or reportdamage(), etc. The results of these methods would be objects that get created with each invoice folder. Now comes the moment where I get confused by the choices: This process will generate 50,000+ invoices per year. Nobody wants a to browse a folder with 50,000 entries. Can I reasonably use transparent folders to group all those invoices by day, week, month, and so on into a tree heirarchy? No doubt it could be done, but should I? I gather that transparent folders will reverse acquisition, such that /Invoices/2002/March/24/Inv3022253356/Hello() will be equivalent to /Invoices/Inv3022253356/Hello() . Is that correct? Would the invoices still be 'as one collection' (thanks to the transparency of their grouping folders) if I wanted to write python scripts joining Zcatalog results that took the place of my current sql queries? Sometimes you're thinking of the invoices as grouped by dates, other times you're looking for the aggregate of other properties, such as CustomerID. I need to be able to create things like "show all year 2001 invoices for customers in the 90210 zip code" as well as, "Show the average invoice amount for the the top 10 customers." I've got a ton of other questions about it, but for the moment, if anyone can tell me whether this is a the dead-opposite way you should be using Zope, I'd be very grateful.
