ftp and virtual hosting question

I've configured virtual hosting with zope and apache per http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver. How do I configure zope so that users for each virtual host ftp right into the virtual host folder? Mini-HOWTO: Zope + MySQL under Windows

Ever try to get a MySQL server and Zope running under MS-Windows? Here's what I had to do. And no, I didn't find this documented anywhere. This was a bit challenging as I haven't really used MS-Windows for anything other than gaming in about 5 years. 1. Install and start Zope 2. Install and start MySQL server (I'm using mysqld-opt.exe) 3. Install ZMySQLDA (*) You need a Windows program that can handle tarballs, as ZMySQLDA, like most Zope "Products", is not distributed as a .zip file 4. Restart Zope 5. Notice that the ZMySQLDA Product is showing as "broken" in the Zope Control Panel, because you are missing the MySQL-python interface library (distributed separately) 6. Try to install MySQL-python (filename "MySQL-python-0.9.1.win32-py2.1.exe") (*) This will fail, because the Windows installer program will only unpack the files if it can find a "Python Installation" directory to unpack it into. There is no way to specify your Zope Python install as it will only let you choose a Python install that is finds in the registry (I *think*). I.e., you fscking NEED Python to get access to the files. A .zip file was not available for download. 7. Download and install the win32 Python 2.1.2 (to match your Zope 2.5.0's Python) 8. Now install MySQL-python (it should work this time) 9. Restart Zope, and notice that the ZMySQLDA Product is broken, because it is not finding the MySQL-python interface library 10. At this point, you'll need to either (a) have payed attention to the directories the Windows Installers used, or (b) go surfing around your hard drive until you find where Zope, Python, and MySQL-python were placed. For me it was (b). 11. Identify the files needed for MySQL-python. Since MS-Window's package management system doesn't provide an "rpm -ql" equivalent, I guessed this to be C:\Python21\ _mysql.pyd _mysql_exceptions.py _mysql_exceptions.pyc _mysql_exceptions.pyo MySQLdb/ [dir with all contents] ...then I copied those files into the directory C:\Program Files\Demo\lib\python That "Demo" is the name of the directory Zope was installed into. 12. Restart Zope. Is is working? Seems to be... I can talk to the database from Zope. It is correct and stable? Fsck if I know. --Derek

I too, would also like to assist in making sure that Zope3 is well-documented from the start. Particularly the API docs. If you look at projects that are very well documented, like QT, you can understand a large part of the reason why they are quite successful. This would guve me a chance to better understand the new code, too. A good living document that I always wished I had was an explanation of the code's structure, where config files and persistant storage folders are, etc. Looking at the CVS checkouts, it looks to be *much* different in Zope 3. Just list some things that need work, and I'll see what I can do. I am doing something on my site which is similar to the original request in this thread (get a method to return the exact data of an Image object), except that I use it to get a random image from a folder. I used the index_html() method of Image, and I put it in a Python Script as follows: request = container.REQUEST response = request.RESPONSE images = context['images'].objectValues ('Image') image = random.choice (images) response.write (image.index_html(request,response)) I don't know if this is better or worse than the suggestions mentioned already, but since it's different, I thought I would share it. error messages

Hello, When I start up Zope on my Windows 95 system, some messages get sent to a DOS window. When there are import errors, however, I cannot always trace all of them because they are not retained in the window' s buffer. Is there an easy way to get these messages into some other file? Is there a way of increasing the window's buffer so that even if the messages are sent here, they are not quickly scrolled out? Thank you, Shilpa

How a method only returns the data of an image

I need to make a method act like the clone of an image. Without extending the Image class...(I would like to do this in DTML or python-script) I am simply trying to get a method to return the exact data of an Image object, so it can be used in normal HTML <IMG src="myimage.jpg?somevariable">. If the Image is a method, it can execute some logic based on the QUERY_STRING. example: DTML_Method "myimage.jpg" # should look and smell like a JPG to the browser (but also execute some logic without # effecting the image header data) ---- | <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-type', 'image/jpeg')"> | <dtml-var expr="therealimage.data"> | <dtml-var somelogic> ---- But this doesn't return the proper data or Content-Length: "therealimage" is a standard Zope Image object.
