Hi, This issue has been discussed again and again, I would like to clarify my idea and your comments will be very appreciated. Suppose we want to provide a server which is: 1) Hosting 1,000,000 members' profile. Each member's disk quota is 5MB. Which means we need at least 5,000GB (5 TeraGB) disk space. 2) Assume the concurrent accessing to a URL is 1000 request/per second 3) Assume all the requests retrieve dynamic content. 4) We want to leverage the power of Zope which means all the pages should be rendered by zope. The priciples I would like to verify are: 1) Some database (RDBMS) should be used instead of FileStorage for ZODB. 2) The ZEO should be used for constructing a cluster computing. 3) The Apache should be the front end instead of ZServer. 4) The PCGI should be the connection between Apache and Zope. 5) I shouldn't create static instance into the ZODB but query the external database. 6) The "Cache" of zope is useless since all the responses are dynamic rendered. Confused about ZSyncer setup

Hi, I am trying to get ZSyncer working between my dev server and my production machine using https. My production box uses Apache to delegate to my ZServer using ProxyPass. This works fine for my manage interface. I have set up a ZSyncer instance on my dev box with a destination of https://www.mydomain.com/site/ZSyncer. There is a ZSyncer product here on my production box, and the proxy seems to delegate properly, although the index page is brought up when referencing this ZSyncer object (is this normal????) Firstly, I am confused as to why one needs a ZSyncer instance on the target (the documentation intimates this is necessary). Surely the source version specifies the items to be synchronised, and the user/pwd combo provide enough authentication. Secondly, when I try to 'sync' from dev, I get an 'There was a problem with that comparison.' error, and tips to verify my url, user/pwd combo etc. It fails to connect. Not only that, it does not write any log info to the specified log file either. I am highly suspicious that it is even attempting to connect. What am I missing? "Zope DB instance has no attribute 'lock'"

I installed the Z MySQL Database Adaptor product and configured a connection with the simple 'database username password' connection string. Now I get the above when I try "select * from applicants" in the 'test' view of my database adaptor. I have no idea what it means, or how to troubleshoot it. Is the problem in my database? In Zope? WTF? The database connections shows itself as 'open', so I think it can talk to the database okay. What do I do next? I'd post more information but I'm not sure what information is necessary... Formulator - Database Edit form (solved)

RE: Setting up initial values on a formulator form from the contents of the DB. ( For a DB edit form ) I've found the solution by looking though the Formulator source. The following is a slight change to the index_html method in the Formulator HOWTO ( automatic method) . This form fills in the value of the fields with the current values of the DB. A ZSQL method is assumed to have been called prior to accessing this form by using direct traversal as explained by my last message. Hope this helps someone out, as I couldn't find the answer anywhere. My list method uses direct traversal to an zsql method, and I want to add an additional path to the Formulator form which will pre-fill in the values For instance, each item is listed with a link to the edit form like [ <a href="<dtml-var URL1>/user_by_id/&dtml-userid;/forms/userEdit/"> Edit </a> Where the user_by_id is a zsql method with direct traversal enabled. I added the "field.render(field[field.getId()], REQUEST) as suggested by some archived email message but I get the error. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __getitem__ When clicking the edit link. Any suggestions or examples on how to get formulator ( or forms in general ) to work with zsql would be appreciated.

As much as it would be nice to have Zope books in both sections, I would much prefer that bookstores bundle Zope books for discounted prices with Paperback fiction bestsellers to increase the bredth of Zope's target audience. ;) Seriously, though, web apps or programming and development is where these books should be first, and if they can end up on other sections or aisle-end-tables, great... Developers are important, but zope needs to make more headway with networking professionals. What is the permission to read the owner_info of an object ? Apparently it is not available to anonymous. ZCatalog and BTrees

I am storing my data in a BTreeFolder with _setOb(). I can access my objects with a URL (/myBTreeFolder/foo) but ZCatalog seems to be unable to find it. I store my data with _setOb() because _setObject() behaves like a normal folder. If I access /myBTreeFolder with a browser the content does not get displayed since it is stored in a the _tree object. Has someone seen a new version of BTreeFolder (I use version 2.0)? Could it be usefull to subclass BTreeFolder and wrap _getObject to call _getOb? thomas

Passing object name or id to DTML method

I have a DTML method similar to the one below. I want to call this (from an html link) with an argument that is the name of the object xxx (eg. http://localhost/zope/test?xxx=item1_id) The idea is to use the same DTML method to render many instances of the object type. Being a newbie, I would appreciate your help--an example would be nice. Thanks. <dtml-with xxx> .... </dtml-with>
