database browsing interface

Among the different database connection objects is there a standard interface for "browsing" the database (listing tables,columns, etc)? I noticed ZPoPyDa uses: *manage_get_tables *manage_get_table_infos while ZMySQLDa uses: *tables *columns Would it be beneficial to standardize this accross the different database adapters?

dmtl generated borders

Greetings: I know this has been posted several times but searching both nipltd and activestate archives comes up empty. What I am interested in doing is creating a single pixal border around a table or text block using dtml. Could some one repost the code snippet or provide a short explanation on how to do this with dtml as this neophite wants to exand on his zen...:) Many thanks for any info. -- Chris H The future remains Open......

Using fmt to format

This works: <dtml-var amount fmt="%.2f"> But suppose I go: <dtml-let amountformat="'%.2f'"> This doesn't work: <dtml-var amount fmt=amountformat> Nor this: <dtml-var amount fmt="amountformat"> </dtml-let> I just get Error Type: TypeError Error Value: not all arguments converted With a dateobject it's easier thanks to the strftime() method of any date object. What about strings, ints and floats in DTML?? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Problems with ImageFile

Hello I'm trying to create an image using PIL within an external method. I followed the 'makeThumbnail' example, from the Zope book. This is some of the code: ---------------------- import Image, ImageDraw from StringIO import StringIO ... im = Image.new( ... ) ... sf = StringIO() im.save(sf, "JPEG") ... ---------------------- when executed within zope, this code gives an error message, saying something about "...'ImageFile' module has no attribute '_save'..." So I looked for ImageFile, and found that PIL (1.1.3) has his own ImageFile module: Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python2.1/site-packages/PIL/ImageFile.pyc (the one that should be imported within the 'save' method above), but instead, Zope's own ImageFile module gets imported: Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/ImageFile.pyc What is the proper solution? WS_FTP connection

having trouble connecting to zope server on my local machine using WS_FTP using the wizard Host Name or IP Address: localhost or 127.0.0.1 (tried both) Port: 21 (default) try to connect: prompted for userID and password I type in my management username and PW for the Zope management interface get this message: Connecting to 127.0.0.1:21 Connect failure I think I'm following the instructions set out in Ch 3: Using Basic Zope Object of The Zope Book but it's not working. Any help much appreciated - Bill Kerr

users can't edit own pages

Hi, I'm getting an odd security issue. I imagine it comes from misconfiguring something, because what is happening isn't the default behavior. I'm using CMF with plone. The issue is that users can't edit their own pages. Each user has a folder in /Members, and the default page that plone (or CMF?) generates for them is in their personal folder. They own that default page as well as their /Members/name folder, but they aren't allowed to modify either. When I log in as a user and try to go into the editing view (at /Members/membername/folder_contents), I get the error: Unauthorized: You are not allowed to access listFolderContents in this context A few lines up the stacktrace, there is: File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\Products\PageTemplates\ZRPythonExpr.py, line 49, in __call__ (Info: here.listFolderContents( contentFilter=filter)) File Python expression "here.listFolderContents( contentFilter=filter)", line 2, in f Now, I can explicity allow them to list folder contents by settings the security permissions (I have to enable listing for everyone in this case). However, this seems to be hiding the real problem, and I don't know what that problem is. Also, I don't want to have to enable every security setting in /Members just to allow the users to modify their personal pages.

File Upload

Hi everyone, I have 2 questions: The lab that I work for will routinely have to upload files via HTTP of between 2MB and 40MB. We will be saving these as External files but this is not the problem. We can upload 2MB files pretty quickly (~3 seconds), but trying to upload an 8MB file takes about 50 seconds. This is true no matter whether I upload the file as an external one or just as a regular File. Therefore I am guessing that the problem comes from Zope's handling of large files and the definite probability that it is loading the file into memory first before saving it. I have seen other people who have had similar problems: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-July/094581.html http://lists.ozzope.org/pipermail/ozzope/2001-October/000116.html but there don't seem to be any solutions posted. Is there any way of streaming the file into Zope? My second problem comes with the file once it is uploaded - I know that Zope adds a couple of extra properties to an uploaded file, but is there any way I can get at the original file - maybe removing the properties so that I can pass it into another program for processing? This new release adds much requested features like * batch add capability -- add instances whole directories at a time! * tunable parameters for CVS commands, and * programmability you may now create instances using scripts rather than through the web GUI if you wish. There are even a set of detailed example scripts to help you get started! Why not simply use ZCVSFolder? Because CVSFile stores files in CVS as normal files, rather than as Python "pickles." This makes it easy to use the same content, held in CVS, in both Zope and non-Zope contexts. CVSFile extends ExternalFile, and therefore inherits all of its functionality. This new release requires ExternalFile version 1.0. This product is compatible with the popular ExternalEditor product. In order to upgrade your existing CVSFile 0.7 objects to version 0.8, you will need to run the repair() method. See the section on Schema Migration in the README.txt file for more details. There are even a set of detailed example scripts to help you get started! This new release is compatible with CVSFile-0-8. It also extends its "workalike" capabilities. ExternalFile can now behave like any of the following: * DTMLDocument * DTMLMethod * Image * File Why not simply use ExtFile? Because ExternalFile supports pointing to a file "in situ" like a symbolic link, rather than copying it into some central repository directory. This may not seem like a big deal, until you consider that those files might be stored in a revision control system like CVS. ExternalFile gives you the ability to create a Zope object that points to a file in, for example, a CVS sandbox for its content. ExternalFile is usable by itself. It is also the base class for CVSFile. This product is compatible with the popular ExternalEditor product.
