Roger that. Successfully compiled Zope 2.5.1 with Python 2.1.3. When trying to run the "start" script, however, it complains of permission problems on the var directory: 2002-06-05T16:28:39 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File /home/smaring/zope/Zope-2.5.1-src/z2.py, line 690, in ? IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/smaring/zope/Zope-2.5.1-src/var/Z2.pid' And rightly so considering the permissions: drwxrwxr-x 2 1000 users 4096 Jun 5 12:28 var/ I added root to the users group in /etc/group, since I was trying to run the start script as root, but that didn't help. It must be trying to run as a different user. Anybody know what is going here? Or where I can find the "FAQ"? Thanks. Hi all, I want to create a condition in ZPT. Cannot change users' passwords.

Hello, I keep having problems installing Zope binary distributions properly on a machine running Debian Stable. The install process itself seems to go fine, but when I try to add new users to the system, I cannot change their password. No matter what I change it to, it ends up showing as 'password' in the password field, and 'pconfirm' in the confirm field. I tried Zope versions 2.5.1, 2.5.0 and 2.4.4 and they all have the same problem. My install process: (as root) cd /usr/local/ tar zxvf /tmp/Zope-2.5.1-linux2-x86.tgz mv Zope-2.5.1-linux2-x86/ zope-2.5.1 chown -R root.staff zope-2.5.1/ cd zope-2.5.1/ ./install -u www-data -g www-data python zpasswd.py inituser Then I change the HTTP_PORT in z2.py from 8080 to 9673. After that I start zope as www-data: sudo -u www-data ./start & The servers start as they should and the zope management interface seems perfectly functional. Any suggestions on what might go wrong here? _matvei

I'm venturing away from my J2EE cave for a bit to explore Python and Zope. I've compiled and installed Python 2.2.1 on my Linux box. I'm trying to compile Zope 2.5.1. The thing is, now, it seems I can't retrieve the TextElement object which inside the article. Handling Session Timeouts

Hi *, In an attempt to handle session timeouts, I'm wondering if someone on this list can enlighten me. My application utilises Zope's Transient Object Container & Session Data Manager. Once a user is authenticated, I set several variables in my Session Data Manager with the values from a HTML form - <dtml-call "REQUEST.SESSION.set('var1', var1 )"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.SESSION.set('var2', var2 )"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.SESSION.set('var3', var3 )"> Now these are variables are in my SDM, I set these in my standard_html_header as such... <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('var1',REQUEST.SESSION['var1'])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('var2',REQUEST.SESSION['var2'])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('var3',REQUEST.SESSION['var3'])"> This way I can access any session variables via <dtml-var var1> rather than <dtml-var "REQUEST.SESSION['var1']"> Am I on the right track so far? My problem is handling timeouts. My Trasient Object Container has a timeout value of 20 mins. In my attempt to handle timeouts, I have the following code in my standard_html_header - <dtml-if "REQUEST.SESSION.has_key('var1')"> the session still has this key, therefore must be active, do nothing. <dtml-else> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('login_page')"> </dtml-if> * The rest of my HTML code goes here. The problem is the redirect isn't working and Zope attempts to render the page... thus resulting in a Zope error. Does anyone have a working solution to this? or could point me in the direction of some Docs/HOW-TO's? Any help appreciated. Regards, Michael

Looking for Mailinglist-Webboard-Product

Hi, I do not really like webboards like squishdot, I prefer mailinglists. Mailman is great and comes with an archive. Is there any product which would publish the mailman-archive in a webboard-manner, so that people could easily follow the discussions via their browsers and could, if allowed, post into the list using the webboard-interface or their favorite mailer. (Mh, perhaps broken mailers would cause ill threading...) I know their is ZMailman but it looks like a interface to manage mailman or integrate the webinterface into a zope-site. Zope Page Template : Access denied error

Hello Experts, I am new to Zope. I have Zope2.5.1 installed on my win2000 machine. I have made a Page Template object which has the following code(example from ZopeBook). <html> <body> The URL is <b tal:content="request/URL" >URL</b> <table width="100%" border="1"> <tr> <th>S.No</th> <th>ID</th> <th>MetaType</th> <th>Title</th> </tr> <tr tal:repeat="item container/objectValues"> <td tal:content="repeat/item/number">#</td> <td tal:content="item/getId">Id</td> <td tal:content="item/meta_type">Meta-Type</td> <td tal:content="item/title">title</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> When I try to test this PageTemplate with ZopeManagement Interface--->Test Tab, I am prompted to Login with userid and password. I don't understand why this happens since I am already logged in as role Manager and own this PageTemplate Object. Even after giving the userid and password I get an access denied error message.
