SQL Error Handling from a Python Script

I'd like to have some detailed error handling within my python script. Unfortunately, I can't find any information whatsoever about errors or error handling. No index, no appendix, nothing. Searching for errors turns up very little. It would be nice if the various components of Zope (and Zope itself) had a comprehensive set of documents (in an easy to find place) that described all the errors and how you catch them. Or even just a brief list of the errors, and what classes they were, so you could hack around and figure it out. So far, I can tell that if a ZSQL object has an error, it throws an exception that is at least based on StandardError. But I don't know exactly what exception it is, and I don't know how I can pull anything intelligent out of it other than it's string representation. Can anyone please help? preventing direct access to scripts

How can I block direct access to scripts in a certain directory? Users should only be able to use a script 'through' a page template, but not directly. This means the page template should have something like a proxy role. Unfortunately this doesn't seem possible. Probably I'm missing something very basic here, but can somebody enlighten me? Singleton and other design patterns in Zope

A great many design patterns rely on changing class attributes. class inst_counter: _instances = None def __init__(self,id): if inst_counter is None: inst_counter._instances = 0 inst_counter._instances += 1 self.id = id ...... class singleton: __instance = None class __hidden: pass def __init__(self,id) if singleton.__instance is None: singleton.__instance = singleton.__hidden() then set __getattr__ and __setattr__ to point at singleton.__instance() ..... Factories, Mediators, .... Don't forget the Borg design pattern. :) Pick up your Go4 design patterns and take a look on how may proven and tested patterns rely on setting class attributes. Yet, using Zope 2.5.1 I can't seem to get the persistence machinery to recognize changes in class attributes. Can this be done ? and how ? Thanks Chris

There's not much infomration to go on here :-) What's wrong is that the gcc compile of the _mysql routine requird by MySQL-python-0.9.1 is failing. From the information you provide here it's not possible to figure out what's causing your problem. Did you install the full set of Python develpment and libraries when you rebuilt your system? The README cautions: If you have Red Hat Linux or a similar packaging system, make sure you have the Python development headers and libraries (python-devel). For Python-2.x versions, this is python2-devel. I don't know about mixing code in the same document, but I have used a DTML document in recent releases of the CMF (1.3b1), and it worked fine. The header and footer were zpt, while my document was DTML. Postgresql and Zope

Does anyone have good directions on How-To set up Postgresql w/ Zope on a Windows2k or NT4 machine. I know how-to do the cygwin process and postgresODBC process... but I need good directions on the Postgresql Drivers for Windows. Eric Dunn

OK, which zope and which python are you using? Zope requires python 2.1.3. RH7.3 ships with Python 1.5 and Python 2.2. The Linux binary distribution of Zope includes python 2.1.3--it's what I use. You'll need the source tarballs or the SRPMs for MySQL-python-0.9.1-1py2. Both MySQL-python and ZMySQLDA use distutils. In the directory for each product execute /var/www/zope/bin/python setup.py build /var/www/zope/bin/python setup.py install Note that you *must* use the python used with zope as that's the way all the proper libraries and path are identified. After a bit of fuss, some C compiles, and the like, you should be in business. Xron problem(s)

I want my product to automatically update folders containing news items but the Xron will not work because it runs the rescheduling method for the anonymous user (who has no right to update). I'm using Xron 0.0.10 under Zope 2.5.1 on RedHat 7.2. How can Xron method be run by a user having the appropriate rights? Also, when I 'trigger' an event with Xron, the event works fine, but at the end of the event process the browser (Netscape or IE) asks me to download 'trigger' from 'localhost'.
