I would develop with what you are planning on running for production. I still can't import the DCworkflow example from the CMFCollector from recent versions of all products on my win2k system. I believe it's because the custom Workflow example was exported from a linux machine. There was a problem with the dir paths \ for windows and / for linux. Another thing I seem to notice is that there is more support from the core people for linux. As evident from some past comments. So for the most part you can mix and match the two inviroments, but if you plan to do some serious work that might involve some magic coding. Bag 'o newbie questions

Hi folks, I'm fairly new to Zope, but I have about a year's worth of Python experience so I understand it reasonably well. I'm trying to convert my employer's internal engineering web server to Zope. On the present site there's some functionality I coded in PHP for which I'd like to create Zope equivalents. I'd appreciate any comments or help you can offer. 1) We used PHP's "auto_prepend_file" and "auto_append_file" directives to paste in a standard header and footer to every HTML document below the root. Is there a facility by which we can do this in Zope without having each page explicitly call <dtml-var> to render the header and footer? 2) I wrote a left-side navbar that displays the directory tree of the site. Lucky me! <dtml-tree> seems to be capable of generating an even nicer one. Our site's directory tree looks like this: /index_html (DTML document) /standard_html_footer (DTML method) /standard_html_header (DTML method) /a/index_html (DTML document) /a/aa/index_html (...) /b/index_html /c/index_html /c/cc/index_html /d/index_html /d/dd/ <-- note the lack of index page here /d/dd/ddd/index_html And so on. I copied over our index pages for /index_html and /a/index_html, and modified them so that they call <dtml-var standard_html_header> and <dtml-var standard_html_footer>. In standard_html_header, I make a <dtml-tree> call. Here are the issues I've run into: a) <dtml-tree> won't render unless index_html is a DTML method (it won't work if index_html is a DTML document). Help me understand the namespace issue here: is it not sufficient that a DTML document is calling the DTML method that has the <dtml-tree> call? b) I want the <dtml-tree> call to render a tree rooted at / no matter which page a user is visiting. I tried encapsulating the <dtml-tree> call in a <dtml-with expr="PARENTS[-1]"> as described at <http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/1003151229> but when I visit /a/index_html I see a tree rooted at /a. What am I doing wrong? 3) In directories like /d/dd, where there is no index_html page, I do _not_ want to inherit a parent's index_html page; rather, I want to set up my own TOC generator for the directory. What's the best way to do this? 4) I'd like to examine the DTML namespace stack so I can understand it a little more deeply. What's the best way to do this? Version still active after closing

Hi I have a problem with the version mechanism. I created a version object, start working on it, the day after I saved the changes and closed it. But some objects -not all- are still blocked and showing the red diamond, saying that they are currently in a version. If I open the version again, the changes I made are still there, but when I close it again, the objects still show the mark. What can I do? Gabriel Genellina Softlab SRL

Hi! I've been wondering, if id can also be a method (callable object)? (I've been getting strange results from objectValues() :( ) I seem to need this code in a PythonScript: for ob in container.objectValues(["Structured Document", "Ordered Folder"]): myid=ob.id if callable(myid): myid=myid() if myid=='index_html': pass else: pass If so, is there any way to get the "autocall" effect of <dtml-var id> in a PythonScript? It has to do with setting up "SQL Log" that I saw announced on Zope.org this morning(http://www.zope.org/Members/hdstich/SQLLog_announce). I want to try but we only have Oracle people here. Core Session Tracking

Thanks - I had an opening tag without the corresponding closing tag! Added the closing tag, the header and body of the document can now be seen through both IE and Netscape. I guess IE is a little more tolerant of unmatched tags than Netscape is. Try fetching the document from command-line using wget or curl before feeding it to tidy, just to make sure you are getting browser-independent stuff. Just me being paranoid and not trusting "Save As" from the browsers, as they tend to massage the content for you before saving, so your run of tidy would no longer be valid. marcio

Unsliceable object

Dear List SELECT object_id, creation_date, modification_date, deletion_date, creator FROM object generates the error message "Unsliceable object". The SQL-statement is perfectly valid. I use a Psycopg_database_connection. Thx for your time. \Oliver

Running zope in non zope hosting company

I was looking for a Zope hosting for my personal projects and was ready to purchase hosting from iMeme, when decided to also see wether non Zope hosting companies would be able to satisfy my needs. I read from mailing lists that others had done it and tried it. I contacted Nebula ( finnish small hosting company ) and checked that in their service I would get a shella ccount and cgi-rights. Unfortunately I was not allowed to run Zope in any of the server's ports - so I had to configure zope to operate only through pcgi. z2.py all_the_config_needed_and \ -W - \ -w - \ -f - \ -p /to/the/pcgi/resource Problems? Authentication. Eventhough I had read about it, I had never witnessed http-authentication problems with Apache rewrites. I tried and tried, until got fed up, installed CMF and took cookie crumbler in use. No more problems. Also there were some minor Apache + rewrite configuration problems, but I am solving them hopefully with the assistance of the administrators who will tell me more about their setup and configuration - what is allowed and what is not. Lessons learned? 1) Contact and ask if running Zope is allowed. And how it is allowed ( can you use Zope's servers or to listen for connections or not ). 2) Possibly make a Data.fs with cookie crumbler and all ready - and use that from the beginning. Just in case ,-) 3) Have fun. How many of you are running zope in some non zope hosting company? Which companies? -huima
