Persistence Problem

I've got a product that has a little pool of database connections. These are low level DCOracle2 objects, not Zope DB connections. These live in a hash table-like cache living in a volatile attribute of a persistent product. Something like this: myproduct _v_mycache conn1 conn2 conn3 The cache periodically reaps old connections. The product insures the cache exists before it uses it, as it is volatile and might not exist at any point in time. Here's my problem: Occasionally, my _v_mycahce is empty when I didn't clear it. It looks like my product object gets dropped from memory, then reloaded, resulting in a missing cache. If this is true then what I need is an class or attribute that is persistent for the server lifetime. It looks like all I can get from Zope is permanent persistent objects or volatile objects. So my questions are: 1) Can I put a trap somewhere on my object so I know when it gets purged or loaded? Just a simple "sys.stderr.write('loading\n')" would be enough to confirm my suspicions. 2) Is there a server-lifetime class of objects? Is there a workaround to get there? Can I force my object and its attributes to live in memory and not get purged until shutdown? Thanks in advance. I think I can work around this with traditional coding kung-fu, but it'll be a pain. A solution like 'set this attribute to true' or 'subclass from twiddle' would make me really happy. Charlie.

reliability?

Hello zope, i have a problem :D i am making a site, and the customers started to make problems of zope. when we started, we agreed, i use what i want, but now they asked 10 guys, and some of them didnt know about it, the others said its shit, and lets make php (lol). this isnt a really big problem, because i know they know nothing about it, so theres nothing we're talking about... i'm not so frightened. but i would need to calm the customers, they fear that zope wont be widely spread, they dont know what will happen in 2 or 3 years, and dont know if some other guy will be able to continue it, if something needs fixing. and, they also fear reliability, how zope is reliable? can someone post real world examples please? so ... in the past few years, i've done dozens of big php sites, and this was enough for me to hate it. how is zope's future looking like? how reliable is it on the long term, and what are the chances if an unpredicted error comes in? for example, after a kernel upgrade, anything.. or even after updating zope itself.. (zope errors are a bit mystical for me, at least, in php, i know i figured out easily whats going on...) i'm halfway now, and i dont want to restart... and i dont want to write a single line of php anymore ;D thanks a lot, k -- don't believe everything you think

register Zope Site on search engine

Hi, does anyone know how to let the public search engine (google, yahoo, etc) finding the zope site? As I remember using the html pages, we need to add some meta tag into each pages to specify our search criteria. How about Zope which use DTML? regards, Herianto

Problem with zope Server

I have rehat 7.2 server with zope web sever on it . The system has been working fine for a long time. I tried today to upload a .pdf file( 10 M) to an exsiting web page on the server and but failed. Install Problem

When I tried to install Zope 2.5.1 I received a "SystemError: 256" message and the install process halted. It started with "compiling extensions in lib/python" and then started a traceback through the code. Basically it said that it could not find the file "Makefile.pre.in". I have searched the files but can't find anything on this specific error. Do you have any suggestions on how to install or correct the error. I am using Python 2.2.1. limiting no. of records retrieved

Hi all, I've been trying to limit the no. of records retrieved by a MySQL query. I've managed to do this, using LIMIT, and have built this into my Zope app, but.... How can I retrieve the number of records that would have been retrieved if I hadn't limited the Query? So I can display something like 'display records 1 - 30 of 250', if you see what I mean. The MySQL documentation tells me I can do it using the FOUND_ROWS() command - if I am using version 4.0 + of MySQL! which I am not. So, is there a way of achieving this in Zope? Plone/CMF/Zope: Security question

Hello zope users, I need your help in security question. I made inside Plone Folder and put in it my zpt pages and python scripts. It's a reporting system about our clients (we are ISP). One page for viewing clients, another for editing and deleting them and so on. We need to have such a security policy that one manager can only view clients and not to delete them, another cam make both operations. Third manager can only view limited data about clients. Should I use roles and to make a security policy for each page in my folder or something else? Your help, advices and suggestions are very appreciated. But the Zope Book stands is really the must. Why not download the next draft? You'll also want to read the Product Developers document. And get Dieter's work in progress... There are only three chapters at the moment, but you will find his explanations very helpful.
