How do I commit partial results from an external script?

I need to remove an attribute from most any object in my zodb. I suspect that I will need to do partial commits to not slow down the process to much. Has anybody got an example? regards Max M "Skeptic Effect" or the "Randi Effect" When a skeptic is near, supernatural effects seem to disappear.

prevent user aquisition with custom userfolder

hello all some problem with user and access stuff: iv'e written my own user and userfolder classes which work just fine, but i need a special behaviour: if a userfolder is defined in an objectmanger instance only those users defined in this specific userfolder should be valid in the context. the normal behaviour -- as you might now -- is to inherit the users from the parents it seems that this can not be done in the userfolder itself -- of course somewhere in the zope machinery ther must be some aq_parent stuff when authorizing a user to a specific context has anybody got an idea where i can subclass something and override the dependent methods? thanks in advance, bernd

Recommended Zope book?

I don't have the benefit to make it to a bookstore and browse any Zope books, so I have to buy from Amazon. I would like a good Zope book that 1: Doesn't have a lot of screenshots with obvious stuff like showing how to use the ZMI 2: Covers ZPT, TAL, METAL, etc. (the Beehive Book of Zope index doesn't even mention ZPT or Page templates, from what I can tell) although it comes recommended 3: Is a good overall reference for dtml, tal, and external methods. I don't want to buy the Zope Book right now because it's already out of date. I have the following choices: a: the zope bible b: zope web application development and content management c: Book of zope Anyone have any experience with these?

I guess I just wasn't clear enough in my previous emails about the environment I was running. I will probably just raise it as a bug, unless anyone can tell me that stack traces don't normally appear on XMLRPC exceptions when debug mode is on.

Zope + OpenURL

I'm thinking about implementing (yet another ;-) a middleware solution for our library system using Zope. The challenge is I need to pass metadata from one web catalog to another (imagine adding books from Amazon.com to a Barnes & Noble.com shopping cart). The system on the recieving end provides for this capability using OpenURL (http://library.caltech.edu/openurl/) I know I've heard of this before, but have always overlooked it in favor of a more popular XML-RPC type communication. Now that I'm taking the time to examine it, I see more potential here than I originally assumed. Is anyone else familiar with this spec? It seems the NISO has not yet made this an official standard, as all that is available is lots of draft papers. It should solidify over the next year or so, however. I'm always on the hunt for new things to Zope-ify, and this might be a good one. Well first of all you could ask if it is allowed to run zope at all. If they allow cgis to be run, there is a good chance that Zope would also be allowed. You can download the binary release and use that really easily. Ask how you could run Zope. Either with PCGI - or if they will compile FastCGI then use that. If - which is unlikely - they allow you run Zope with Zserver then be happy with that and use rewrites and wirtual host monster. But ask first from the hosting company.
