I'd been looking at the wrong permissions. Turns out I that was questioning the generic "view" permission (which was acquired anyway). While MetaPublisher uses specific permissions as filters to determine which aspects of the published content are accessible. Setting the MP specific permissions fixes the problem. Shame this wasn't made a bit in the MP tutorial. setting session "data object timeout"

I'm working on an application that uses the default session management objects in Zope 2.5.1. I'd like transient session data to last so that it does not disappear before the user closes/deletes the browser window maintaining the session cookie. I'm considering setting the "Data object timeout" parameter to zero in /temp_folder/session_data. But when will the session data objects ever be deleted in that case? Are they only going to disappear when when Zope restarts? No, the DTML method exists on the ZODB, not in the file system. Depending on your terminology, the External Method also lives in the ZODB, and it points to a file in the file system that contains the actual Python code for the method. The external method's code is found (by Zope) because Zope knows where it is on the Python path. The external code is trying to open the file based on the **file system's** current directory, not the Python path. So your method cannot find the file. Use file paths relative to the code of the external method which you can work out by having the code find its own location. The best way to do that is to remove all the code from the external method folder and put it into a module on the Python path. The external method would then have a one-line function that calls the code you have just relocated. That code can find its own location in the file system. Cheers, Tom P

Another solution is to put the external method in a package or module, and have the package or module find its own directory, which is wasy to do. Then make all your paths relative to the package/module directory. This way, the code always works no matter where you relocate it to, and you never have to remember absolute paths nor depend on the current location (which some other code might decide to change on you). Cannot process SOAP requests

I'm trying to implement a simple handler for SOAP requests. This is for an interface required by a client, so the choice of SOAP over XML-RPC, etc., is nothing I can change. In order to figure out the way that such a request would be formatted, I added the following line to the handler script: context.recordRequest(req=context.REQUEST) "recordRequest" is a Z SQL Method that inserts the passed string into a log database. I then created a simple WSDL that pointed to my Zope handler, and invoked it using the Generic SOAP client tool available at http://www.soapclient.com/soaptest.html. The request was recorded, but none of the SOAP data was visible in the request! At June, 20th 2002 beehive has declared insolvency. Hence, beehive cannot legally do business of any kind. Left behind were a 100.000 in debt and unpaid beehive employees who also wrote zopemag articles. A week ago, Mark Brat, ex-beehive CEO, posted a news-item at zope.org, asking for writers to help publish in beehives zopemag. Now that's what I call chutzpah! To the best of my knowledge this makes Mark Brat a fraud, a criminal, by german law. Layout, prose, and content of zopemag/writefor indicate a dire need for page design, lectorate, and writers. What has happened? Everybody who had done business with Mark Brat went away disappointed and disgusted, saying "Never again!". He's a rich parents single kid (who baught him beehive, after which beehives staff slowly evaporated), school drop-out, good-at-nothing except shmoozing, a complete failure as a manager and salesman, bossing around like an uneducated pimp, lazy, greedy, no scruples, good at lying into your face, a con-man selling stuff he does not have and will not deliver. Without him, Zope could well be much more popular in germany. Lacking economic success, zopemag was a last scheme, basically a community rip-off. When it was announced, the archives contain the valid concerns raised then. For would be writers: Do You want to earn money? A 4-page article gets you $100. How much time to write 4 pages *in-depth insight* without blah-blah? Do You want to make Yourself/zope more famous/popular? Both ok. With a closed threescore paying audience? For subscribers: You waited long time for delivery. You did not get what you paid for. Both in quantity and quality. Former articles so far rarely contained stuff not alreday accessible if you RTFM or STFW. Other content has debatable value relevant to zope, or stops were *deep insight* might start. Your money has been spent on frequent flyer miles, expensive drinks in topless bars, and what else a dickhead needs to feed his ego. Nothing left for articles. But help is on the way! Here is a very minimal product, with no dependancies, no funcionality, nothing, just a constructor. (Not the product from the traceback I posted earlier, but it has the same problem.) Your problem has been reported several times. It is normal when the DTML object (the constructor) is called in the wrong way. However, in your case, the constructor seems to have been called directly from ZPublisher. It knows how DTML objects must be called. When your ZClass uses only stock Zope products and you like, you can send me a "zexp" containing your ZClass and I can try to understand your problem. Dieter

restart from the control pannel ... not restarting

I've installed Zope 2.6.0 from source on a linux box (SuSE 7.2). Everything runs fine except it does not restart from the control panel. I'm sure this must be some privilege issue. I am starting Zope as the root user and running Zope (./start -u brad) as just a normal user. Any ideas why it might not be restarting automatically? Is there a log file I can go to to see what exceptions might have been raised?? Thanks in advance.
