I had the same problems in RH9. After setting my threads to 1, and the interval check timer to 22 (pystones/250), the problem seemed to go away. Hi I'm experiencing some problems with my Zope. It is Zope 2.6.0 sitting on RedHat and connected to Oracle DB via DCOracle. The problem is that sometimes Zope hangs. There are tens of users in my app, and there are also some long lasting db queries, so I have total number of zope threads set to 15 and zodb cache poool size set to 25. Building Zope on Windows

After Googling around, I could not find the answer to this one: My C/C++ experience is limited to working in Borland's C++ Builder environment which hides most of the make/build intricacies from the user. As a result I do not have a clue how to create make files. As a result I do not have a clue how to build Zope on Windows. I want to play around with Zope 2.7b running on Python2.3 and cannot find binaries or instructions on building Zope against Python2.3 on Windows. I'm sure that I'll get it running on Linux, but for various reasons (out of my control) our working environment is Windows and not Linux. If the answer to this question turns out to be RTFM, at least point me in the direction of the M! Thanks Etienne

Representing dates before 1970 in DateTime

I have written a CV product for Zope. Basically it contains a list of competencies. Each competency has a start and end date. I have used Zopes DateTime object for this, and that is the problem, as it will only go back to 1970. But some of the users has educations and jobs from before 1970, so I also need to represent dates before 1970. Is there a simple workaround for this, or do I need to use something like mxDateTime for the task? regards Max M

zexp file

Is there any way to extract files from a .zexp file? I have an exported file from a way older Zope server that I can't get to import into our current Zope server. I'm sure it's because it used some product that I don't currently have installed, but I can't figure out what it is. There are some JPGs in that zexp that I need to get out. Can this be done? Custom register script

I have done some customization to the register script for my portal. Everything works fine when a Manager uses the register script to register other users. However when an anonymous user tries to register himself it barfs because of the last line of the following code. portal_registration.addMember(REQUEST['username'], password, properties=REQUEST) homeFolder = portal.portal_membership.getHomeFolder(id=username) if homeFolder: homeFolder.setTitle (Name + "'s Home") That line is just setting the title on the users home folder. Shouldn't this be allowed? I have worked around the problem by setting a proxy role for Manager on the register script, but this is kind of dangerous because the register script takes some parameters which could allow someone to do something i dont want them to. Does anyone have any other suggestions for to do this?

Retrieving a set number of entries

Hi, I'm building a database interface in Zope. We are using Zope 2.6, Python 2.1.3, and the database is in PostGreSQL 7.3.3. The problem I am having is trying to search the database and return a set number of entries. Like how Yahoo! returns 25 possibilities in it's search per page. Or how Google returns 10. I'd like to know how to code it so that a database search returns a set number of entries found, and can make pages with multiple entries if there's more than the set number of entries on a page. BTreeFolder2 add speed with 10k objects

I'm using a CMFBTreeFolder to hold objects for a query later. Each object in the folder has a few string members. The folder now has about 10,200 objects. When I add a new instance of the object to the folder, it takes around 18 seconds. I've tracked the hotspot down to BTreeFolder2._setOb()'s: tree[id] = object which takes around 17 seconds. By comparison, the rest of the request including cataloging the object takes less than a second. I'm using Zope 2.6.1, CMF 1.3.1. I updated by BTreeFolder2 code to the latest from CVS and ran manage_cleanup() which reported no errors. Any ideas how I can improve this? Thanks, Jeff
