Newbie Questions

Folks I'm completely new to Zope, a non-programmer but at least half way technically competent - or so I thought! I'm trying to install Plone (now on a windows PC (XP Pro), later on RH Linux system for real use). As I understand it, I need to: * Install Zope (done and running) * Install CMF and configure (stuck here, see later) * Install Plone (not yet attempted) In reading the instructions I see (at least) two conflicting sets of instructions, neither of which seem to get the result I want. I have tried creating a Products directory (in Zope home directory), unzipping the CMF into that (I caught the CR/LF instruction) and restarted Zope. No sign of the CMF components. I have also tried copying into an Install directory (in Zope home), unzipped the CMF and then tried to import. I have the Zope Book if that helps! So here are a few questions: What IS the correct way to install the CMF )on Windows first, then on a RH Linux system)? It isn't clear what the filename that one looks to import is named. How does one do this? Is there a source of step by step instructions? When the CMF is unzipped, there are various directories for 'components' (e.g Calendar), I want to install all of these, do I have to copy EACH 'component' directory and install separately? (I can't find a way to traverse to a specific directory from the install option). Thanks in anticipation!

How to get list of reviewers of the folder?

Hi All, I like to get the list of members who have Reviewer role in current folder and all the top level folders (including local roles). My plan is to use member.getRoles() for each member and check whether he is reviewer or not. This is a lengthy process. Is there any function to get the Reviewers. Removing CallProfiler

We installed CallProfiler a while back and then removed it after it was no longer needed, but there's still an object living in the root of our Control Panel that is a broken piece of CallProfiler. I can't figure out exactly how to delete that object. Anyone seen this problem and have a solution? Thanks! - Chris cmuldrow(a)fredericksburg.com

Converting LazyCat to LazyMap?

Hi All I am querying two catalogs seperately, each returns its results as a LazyMap object. I now want to combine the two result sets, but when I do that they become a LazyCat object (which doesn't work with the Plone Batch scripts I am using) Is there anyway to turn the LazyCat object into a LazyMap, or combine the two LazyMaps without creating a LazyCat? Any answers, suggestions, or stabs in the dark welcome Charlie

Dave, I'm not here to defend sexism, racism or other anti-social behaviors but I have to wonder if you're not using a shotgun to kill a fly. I've only been following this list for about 4 months but it is one of the nicest lists I've ever read. Responders are almost universally gentle with and respectful of people who post here. You've given absolutely no specifics and admit you're only talking about a 'few people'. Wouldn't your outrage and comments be more effectively directed to those lists, IRC channels and individuals that you find offensive? Certainly it's an open list and people can say whatever they want but I was just wondering why you feel the need to address the entire community with your outrage. If there are any women who feel the community has discriminated against them, as opposed to some individual Neanderthal, I think we'd like to hear from them directly since you've raised the issue to the community as a whole. attributes Runtime error when using ZODB File Storage

Hi, I'm using the ZODB storage for the first time and am basically tring to add some user info to a FileStorage object. My code is a python script pasted below. My problem is that when I'm trying to test this in the Zope management interface I keep getting the error: Error Type: RuntimeError Error Value: function attributes not accessible in restricted mode .... any idea what could be causing this problem and, more importantly, how I can solve it?? Let's also remind him not to install CMF 1.4 as it does not work with Plone, and you must use CMF 1.32. Look into the GroupUserFolder. It's easy to use and gives you full group-based security. It actually wraps two user folders, one to store users and one to store groups. Local expertise

Are there any local user groups or sources of expertise. I'm in the San Francisco bay area I'd prefer a user group, or an independent 'handholder'. In extremis, a real commercial operation recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks!
