Zope installation

To Whom It May Concern, I used to have an installation on a Win NT machine and it was working well. I am now using a Windows XP machine and I installed Zope. The installation seemed to have gone well and the machine that I am working on being not XP, I did not install it as a winservice. However, after clicking on the start.bat file and logging on at http://localhost:8080/manage, an error page occurred. What other configuration should i fix? Also as a technicality, the thing you are talking about is not actually a PI, even though it looks like one. Strictly speaking, it is the "XML Declaration", and does not (or should not) get passed through to the application as a PI would. So the answer lies in getting the actual encoding of the page and the declared encoding to agree - by default the declared encoding is utf-8 or utf-16. The fact that your application gives you "ascii out of range" errors indicates that it is assuming ascii encoding, which in turn indicates that it is not correctly paying attention to the encoding rules - otherwise it would be using utf-8 (and possibly finding different errors). If the application is written in Python (and I think I recognize that error message), then it is using ordinary Python strings instead of unicode strings. So you seem to have two problems - 1) get the encoding declared correctly. 2) get the processing app to process the encoding correctly. Cheers, Tom P

Dear everybody I created a folder with some documents in there. My purpose is give only one role can list this folder that have some private file on this folder. People usually tell you to run a 'collector'. single quote is translated to <code>

I've upgraded to zope version 2.6.2, python 2.1.3. I'm using Zwiki version.0-11-0rc1 Now in some pages the single quote is translated to <code> and </code>. This produces errors in: <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.set('key','value')"> It didn't happen in the previous zope with the same zwiki. How can I prevent this translation? Wim

Controlling caching of objects

In Zope 2.6.2 it's quite easy to put an upper limit on the number of objects in memory per thread. But does this mean that Zope won't swap out objects until it reaches that limit? It looks like this: Target # of objects per thread: 20,000 Actual # of objects per thread: ~15,000 Actual # of ghost objects per thread: ~43,000 Were the ghost objects once loaded in memory and then swapped out? If so, why were they swapped out? I find the current system of controlling # of objects in memory per thread to be a bit difficult to use. Most people, I think, would prefer to put an upper limit on the total MB of memory Zope uses instead. Are, what are the cons/pros? Bye, -- Bjorn

/temp_folder for ZEO session

Hi, I'm struggling with seting up ZEO environment. For now I set up a Zope 2.7b2 working as ZEO client with ZEO server. In zope.conf I have two zobd_db. One for mount point "/" and ZEO client and the second one for mount point "/ temp_folder" as TemporaryFolder. With Zope everything works fine. In database management i have two bases and in zeo logs connections are logged. Now I try to set up another connection to the same ZEO server from clean python... and get stuck with OFS/Application.py trying to set object 'session_data' after executing Zope.startup(). If I understand correctly the problem lies in a Data.fs. Zope modifies Data.fs and remove /temp_folder becouse it is using the second database for it (TemporaryFolder). For a test I create another ZEO server with no database file. ZEO create the database with temp_folder in it and the problem do not appear (connection from python was succesfull). After that I attached the Zope (as ZEO client) to this ZEO server and the problem show up again. I use quite typical config for ZEO: <custom_zodb.py> import ZServer import ZEO.ClientStorage Storage=ZEO.ClientStorage.ClientStorage(('localhost',7770),storage='main') and bind from python to ZODB (through ZEO) using: Zope.startup() app=Zope.app() So my question is: How can I create from python a TemporaryStorage for ZEO client and specify it's mount point as /temp_folder? I've searched the net and newsgroups (and Zope code) but there is no clear solution for me. I would like to mimic the behaviour of ZConfig for zope.conf and it's zodb tags. I suppose that the answer is in Zope code but unfortunetly its quite comlicated and after few hours of going through it I think that's it is time to call for help ;). Problem with alternate path and request

Hello list, I'm using VHM and I need the (real) remote IP, as given by HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR. However, when accessing the page without any virtualization, I need to fall back on REMOTE_ADDR. Now, any idea why the following <p tal:content="request/HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR | request/REMOTE_ADDR"></p> doesn't work as expected: HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR returns an empty string rather than failling in favor of REMOTE_ADDR. I've overcomed the problem using "or" in python, but I got puzzled with this situation. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Cheers, Fernando
