3 of 4 Zope threads hanging - how to find culprit?

Hello, I am experiencing 3 of 4 of Zopes threads hanging and only being released by restarting Zope. The threads have been hanging up to more than 78 000 seconds before we restarted the application. We use DCOracle2 all the time, several SQL-queries for each request. Due to the natuerw of the underlying SQL the response from the database can tale up to 15 seconds to complete, and requests get stacked waiting for the repsonse from the database server. This leads to the situation that only 1 Zope-thread responds to requests. There is no difference in the queries executed by each thread. Any advice in how to prevent threads from locking up is appreciated, as well as advice on how to find out why the threads lockup. Zope 2-5-1, RedHat 7.2 DCO2 is not the latest release, but from somwhere this summer (fromCVS). XRON problem

Hi all, I try to periodically gather information about pages from which the set "expiration date" lies within the next week. I wrote a Python script that gathers the information and writes it to the server, and sends out a notifying e-mail with the link to the output on the zope server. The script works as I hoped it would. However, I'm trying to schedule it with XRON. The script gets triggered, the file gets written, the mail gets send. But The result is not what I had hoped. The information that should be gathered is missing, only an almost empty file gets created. During testing I noticed that when using the "View" tab of the Xron Method everything works OK, but when I use the "Trigger" tab to trigger the Xron event I have no meaningfull output. Zope version: (Zope 2.4.3 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.2, sunos5) Xron version: 0-0-10 Does anyone know what I can do to make this work? Manager DN Specification

Thanks for your help !! ... With the information you gave me I could authenticate / add and delete users. Below is the complete list of LDAP ACLs I have currently active. ************************************************** defaultaccess read access to dn="ou=People,dc=mysite,dc=com" by dn="uid=zeo,ou=People,dc=mysite,dc=com" write by * read access to dn="ou=zope-grps,dc=mysite,dc=com" by dn="uid=zeo,ou=People,dc=mysite,dc=com" write by * read access to filter="objectclass=cdObject" by dn="uid=zeo,ou=People,dc=mysite,dc=com" write by * read access to attr=userpassword by self write by * read access to * by * read ********************************************************* I also provided the Manager Dn in the LDAP user folder as... cn=Manager,dc=mysite,dc=com Now with all these settings i can successfully add / modify / delete / authenticate the relevant users. But what I need to know is .....do we need the Manager DN/passwd within the LDAP user folder??... In fact, the manager should only be used for server administrative tasks, we use it to get system account information into the LDAP directory. I need to know if there is a way for me to achieve the same WITHOUT specifying the Manager DN within the LDAPUserFolder !!!! .... would be helpful if I get some guidance :-) ...!!!! Variable interpolation / string embedding in Python script?

In Zope Page Templates, you can insert a variable into a path expression like: here/folder/?id Where 'id' is evaluated before the path expression is. It's great for repeat structures. Is there a similar mechanism for use in a Python Script? Something like context.?id.method() I haven't had any luck finding it, if it exists. Thanks in advance, Jon Whitener Detroit Michigan USA

Managing permissions & Security

Hello all, Hoping for some help on permissions & security. I have a root folder defined as UserFolder. Within UserFolder, I've defined 3 additional roles of FolderManager, Author & Reviewer. None of the permissions are acquired from parent, Author, Reviewer & FolderManager roles have appropriate explicit permission settings. Manager has been granted ALL permissions. FolderManager has been granted only the following permissions (below) - Access Transient Objects Access arbitrary user session data Access contents information Add Folders Access session data Add Forum posting Add MetaEntrys Add User Folders Change ExtFile/ExtImage Change Local File System properties Change MetaPublisher FTP access List folder contents Log Site Errors Mail forgotten password Manage users MetaPublisher: Add Entry MetaPublisher: Edit Entry MetaPublisher: List Entries MetaPublisher: Manage MetaPublisher: Search Entries Overwrite local files Query Vocabulary Set Own Password View View Forum View management screens query No "local roles" have been defined. What I'm trying to do is create a user within the UserFolder who has permission to grant access to other users from the management screen. I.e., the FolderManager should be able to grant access to other users as either (Authenticated, Author, Reviewer) by updating the User Folder with additional usernames. The problem I'm having is that I find the FolderManager can create a user with a role of "Manager' and this user will then have the ability to change any of the permissions - permissions not originally available to FolderManager. Question - 1) how do I allow the FolderManager to create users with ONLY one of the following roles - Authenticated, Author, Reviewer - and exclude them from creating users with the Manager role? Can this be done through the normal management views? 2) Is there a better way of achieving this - creating a user within a folder who has the ability to add/delete users in other roles, but cannot assign themselves to any other role but of FolderManager? If any of the above is confusing PLEASE let me know, as I'm in a real twist over how to change this behaviour. Thanks in advance. Regards, Samir.

testing products without starting zope ??

start level of title tags in structured text

how can we tweak the start level of the title tags in structured text: so that when a structured text, written by an internaut for example, is integrated into a page, it doesn't break the structrure html of the rendered page in the case of plone, the rendered html can contain 2 <h1> as the description of the page has already the tag <h1> and these two <h1> are not necessarily on the same "logical" level. I can't see any way to start the contents of the stx-text with, for example a title of level 2 my google research was not fructful.... thanks
