zope benchmarks now available

A little while back I promised to run some benchmarks. Took a little while longer than I thought, and there is a lot to be desired, but I have published the preliminary results. My results (unfortunately) don't agree with the qualitative results of http://www.zope.org/Members/BwanaZulia/zope_benchmarks/benchmarks.html I imagine the more thorough tests I have planned will reveal more. Anyway, if you like numbers (and who doesn't?) you can find my results at http://zopeedge.com/benchmarks It's a little earlier than I had planned to make the site publicly known, so be well warned that the only thing there that really works is the benchmark area. --jcc

Understand ZODB Query?

Hi, I'm starting to develop a zope products and I'm still confused on how to use ZODB. My current application development is using RDBMS concept such as following samples: employee table: Row First Name Last Name Age === ========== ========= === 1 Bob McBob 42 2 John Johnson 24 3 Steve Smith 38 - I can easily perform SQL statement to lookup for some information such as, total employee, who are above 30 years old, and who has the Lastname of 'Smith'. - I can easily retrieve information from multiple tables and combine it as data objects. But how can I do this in ZODB? I was looking at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZDG/current/index_html but it just tell me briefly how to store objects and simple retrieval. I need to do complex queries or perform some transaction. Can anyone help me the way to query data in ZODB? thanks, Heri

problem uploading pdf file via localfs

Hi everybody, I hope you are the right people to address my question. If not, please tell me who might help me with the following question: I am trying to upload a pdf file via a localfs object. Unfortunatelly I am getting a blank page to see within ms-ie. REQUEST.SESSION

Hello again, First: Is there a way to prevent access to files in the server (pdf files, for instance). I intend to use sessions (REQUEST.SESSION) to control that. Is it possible? If not, what's the better option in this case? AccessRules also don't seem to work. Second: I'd like to use Session (REQUEST.SESSION) data as a parameter to another method (a Zsql Method for example). How can I do that in dtml? <dtml-with SESSION mapping> doesn't work. I guess I should use getSessionDataByKey, but I didn't figure out exactaly how. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

xmlrpc problems

Hi all, while trying something with xmlrpc and Amos examples (http://www.zope.org/Members/Amos/XML-RPC) I got while using the objectIds - method an error: objectIds has an empty or missing docstring. Objects must have a docstring to be published If I use for example getId all works fine. looking into the sources told me that objectIds comment (and also from many other methods) looks like: # Returns a list of subobject ids of the current object. # If 'spec' is specified, returns objects whose meta_type # matches 'spec'. So if I change it to: """Returns a list of subobject ids of the current object. If 'spec' is specified, returns objects whose meta_type matches 'spec'.""" it works now and I get the results of the xmlrpc call. So is this maybe a 'comment' bug and a case for the collector or should these methods no more used via xmlrpc? Getting current object in an expression while in a dtml-in loop

Hi, In my search results page I would like to display only those results where the user has the permission to view those files. My question is: how do I refer to the current object in a <dtml-in> loop? I know that I could use <dtml-in Catalog skip_unauthorized> but it still displays all results, even those where the user has absolutely no right. Here is the example: <dtml-in Catalog> <dtml-if expr="_.SecurityGetUser().has_permission('View', OBJECT?????)"> ... </dtml-if> </dtml-in> Can anyone help? Thanks Hans

File Upload problems

Hi all, I am trying to upload an image file from a form to an External Method so that it can be loaded as a blob into an Oracle database. I am having difficulty getting the file uploaded. Here is the form: <form action="execute_loadblob" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <p>Locate file to upload:</p> <input type="file" name="image" size="16"> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Entry"> </form> ======================================================================= The external method is called from a DTML method called "execute_loadblob" which contains the call: <dtml-var expr="writeBlob(image)"> The external method is: import sys,os,string,DCOracle2 as dco def main(image): ... do something here with image, doesn't matter what ... return "Something was done" ============================================================= The gist of the error received, is that image is a " ZPublisher.HTTPRequest.FileUpload instance at 1046b04" instead of being something I can acutally manipulate. Why is this and how do I access either the file or the URL pointing to the file? TIA, Mark Evans

Create User in DTML question

I have a rather involved registration process in which users enter information via multiple forms. This information is then stored in a user table in MySQL. Upon completion of the registration process (and at subsequent logins) the user should be able to access a registered user area. It would seem to me that my options are to create the user in MySQL and then additionally create that user in acl_users or to authenticate the user in MySQL and not use the user folder at all. It seems fairly easy to create the user within the user folder with the manage_users method except that I have only gotten this to work if I set the Manage Users permission to Anonymous for the registered user's directory. This doesn't seem well-advised. Is there a way to execute the manage_users method as a Manager from within a DTML method? If I authenticate the user using the MySQL user table can I then set that user as Authenticated within the SESSION object so that they don't have to re-authenticate within that session? Towards this end, when a user comes back and enters the registered user's area they will be prompted for their username and password. How can I access the username that they entered? Is it within the REQUEST.SESSION object? Is their a way to override the username/password dialog so that it asks for "email address" and "password" instead of "name" and "password". Many thanks in advance for any suggestions that anyone can provide. This is my first project in Zope and I'm rather fumbling along. Marc Stein

Spinning Zope on MP3 file import

When I import an .mp3 file into Zope using the "File" object, zope just spins. The behavior is the same in both IE 6 and Mozilla 1.1. Zope: 2.6 OS: W2K Server Any ideas why an mp3 file would not import? I've seen similar behavior sporadically when importing image files. Thanks. Session data as parameter to other method

Hi, I like to use Session data as a parameter to another method (a Zsql Method i.e.). How can I do that in dtml? <dtml-with SESSION mapping> doesn't work. I guess I should use getSessionDataBy Key, but I didn't figure out exactaly how. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
