External Editor

I have installed the External Editor client on windows XP Pro and configured it to use gvim. First let me say that this is a great product. I am having a problem whenever I close a file after editing it. I get an error message saying that "External editor lost connection to editor process." The only thing I have been able to find is this is from the External editor site: *If the editor launches, but the helper app complains that it lost its connection to the editor process, this is because your editor detached from the parent process (the helper app). Configure the editor such that it does not do this. Unfortunately, many MDI applications do this and cannot be configured otherwise. Look for a solution to this in a later version of external editor. Does anyone have any hints on how to "configure the editor"? Thanks, Mike

Whether Zope can do the job

Hi all folks, I join this list recently and have no idea whether this is right place for posting following question: I am searching open source for an alternative similar to PaperPort, Pagis Pro, OmniPage or PageKeeper, applications running on Windows. They provide a platform to keep all scanned images which can then be stacked page after page, removing or re-inserting the pages stacked if required. Finally printing them as a pdf file or other format. One more important job is data searching on the scanned images. On PaperPort you can create a database bank on all scanned images and do data searching. Kindly advise whether "zope" can do the same job? Thanks in advance. B.Regards Stephen Liu

Hi, I grooved up my index_html in the root of zope. Are there any chances to correct this? I can't connect to the manage interface or to any plone sites any more. Can I edit index_html on some way direct on the linux command line? Thanks for feedback. Best regards, Stefan

Thanks to everyone for all of the feedback. I am going to start by getting a product built to manage the metadata. By that time I should know zope well enough to determine which approach will be best for the OLTP data. Right now it seems like the RDBMS is the way to go however. Odd behavior based on allowed metatypes

I am in the process of creating container objects as a Python process. I want a result similar to the following structure. Resource Store - contains only Resource Folders Resource Folder - can contain multiple nestes Resource Folders and a Resource Source Resource Source - can contain only Resource Databases Resource Database - can contain only Record objects The Record objects have initially been developed as a stand alone product. My trouble begins in restricting the allowable meta_types to only one meta_type. From within my Resource Database, the factory method is not found. If I allow another metatype to be added, everything works fine. My Record objects can also be added to any other standard Zope object. I have even went as far as to place my Record product inside the Resources product. In doing so, I included a factory method for the top level of the Record inside my Resource Database class. The record is then added, but top level icons are lost. The way things are behaving for me have totally defied my understanding of how products operate inside Zope. Can someone help me understand what is going on? Why is the behavior different simply because I allow one vs. more than one metatype to be added? I would agree, since you seem to know RDBMS already. Use ZODB for metadata and other types of objects. This approach also allows access to the data from other, external applications. Or go with whatever gives you the "cleanest" application design. One of the things Python & Zope emphasize is that it's not about the raw numbers, it's all about ease of use, rate of development/deployment, application of logic, etc. Samir. Setuid

Blank to all I have installed zope-2.6.0_1 on freebsd 4,7 stable but I have of the problems to make to start it. If launch zope from root with su-2.05b# ./start I receive this error SystemExit: A user was not specified to setuid to; fix this to start as root (see doc/SETUID.txt) I have tried also always launch it with l option - u from root su-2.05b# ./start -u slupz SystemExit: /usr/local/www/Zope/var is not owned by root, fix this to start as root (see doc/SETUID.txt) Someone puo gives to me one aid hand? Pagination

I'm not sure where to start here, and I'm kind of new to Zope here, but I thought I would ask. How do most ZSQL generated lists get paginated? I haven't seen hardly anything pointing to a way of doing this. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong area. I would like to know how to display a list of items with a page break that displays page numbers, something similar to this: (Prev - 1 - 2 - 3 - Next) I would appreciate any input on how someone else achieved this. Uh, you can't do this. The best you can do is open up an html page in a new window without a menu, but someone smart enough is just going to right-click and print. You can likely output print-restricted PDF output (voluntarily obeyed by acrobat reader), but this would likely require you to install Adobe SDKs on your server, and use html2pdf or similar to render pages into PDF to deliver them. In other words, there is no easy answer, and even at that, you can't prevent people from saving those PDFs and emailing them half-way across the world. You need to create a custom application that uses time-bombed encryption and a proprietary viewer of your own devising. The reason most digital-rights-management applications fail miserably is because you can't really prevent the copying of bits no matter how hard you try. Sorry. assignment to form records

I've a script who gets two parameters from a form: Code (int), Fields (record). In the script, I can assign to Code, say: Code = 1 but if I try, say: Fields.a_field = 1 I get the error: > Error Type: TypeError > Error Value: attribute-less object (assign or del) Do I need some special syntax for that or is it simply not possible (and why)?
