Image management in Zope

Hi I would like to make a site, where the user can upload an image in any size. The site then have to convert the image to jpg or another optimized format. After that I would like to be able to display the picture in a form of shop-system, in different sizes. I have been looking at the Photo product, and it seems like it is close. I just can't see how I convert the image upon upload. Does anyone have some ideas regarding this. I don't mind if the solution is a commercial product to extend zope. Thank's in advance Jens Bjerre

Hi Dieter, thanks for your advise. One question about the "-M" logging. I adjusted the zope source to have rotating Z2.log files (tip at: http://www.zope.org/Members/tim/logmanagement) Do you know whether the "-M" logfile rotate as well with this adjustment? Just tested, and the same 4.6 mb mp3 file uploads via FTP to a remote file system at ~253kbps in 3.01 minutes via my low-end DSL. The zope file object upload has been spinning for over an hour now. I know I can link to this from the file system-- i'm just trying to understand what seems an odd behavior, which I've seen occasionally before with large file objects going into Zope, -- I'm not really looking for a workaround. Consider using the CMF, perhaps Plone. http://plone.org Zope could be a good document management system, in this case, with the assistance of automation-capible OCR (like OmniPage automated via COM interface). You would bave to be able to extract text-metadata out of a document, so obviously you need a content-type in Zope or the CMF that is capable of taking an image and/or PDF file containing raster data, storing it, and being able to pass it to an external filter for the acquiring of text metadata. You would just need to write a Zope python product that, for example, with the CMF, defined a method called SearchableText() for your 'document'/image that served up (potentially cached) text extracted from an OCR system. You would have to, of course, write an application that fed Zope the scanned images in order, or at least uploaded them and set metadata. There are many possible ways to do this (ZEO, XML-RPC, etc). Combining the pages could be done with commercial PDF libraries, including PageCatcher, which is a commercial, Python-based PDF aggregation library/utility. http://www.reportlab.com/pageCatcher/index.html There are likely open-source solutions to this as well (in the xpdf package?), perhaps. So, yes, Zope could do this job, but you would have to write the code (feed scans into Zope, CMF content type) needed and pick decorating software components (OCR, PDF aggreagation) necessary to do it. Get Access to Object from its record in the ZCatalog

I'm pulling my hair out here. I'm sure the answer is simple. How can I get to properties of an object from its ZCatalog entry? I'm iterating through results, and want to do something special if the result is a record for a PDF file. I know how to check the file to see if its a PDF, but ZCatalog does not keep track of all the file contents. I know there is a way to resolve the record ID into the actual object, but I forget how and cannot find a reference to it. Thanks, Edward ---- For clarity, here is some of my code.
