ZODB vs Relational Databases

Please forgive me if this is in a FAQ somewhere. I am writting an application that will be capturing financial information. If I use the ZODB and create expense and income objects to capture this information there will over a 1000 objects added a week. I will be tracking history, archiving data, etc. Is Zope the right tool for this type of application or am I better off creating the objects that this data is associated (companies, people, properties, etc) within the ZODB and using a relational database such as PostgreSQL to track the higher volume financial data. tia, Mike

Zope hangs

Hi, This weekend my Zope server stopped serving pages. The last entry in my Z2.log file was: 218.27.99.174 - Anonymous [08/Mar/2003:02:08:40 +0200] "CONNECT 65.54.166.99:25 HTTP/1.1" 404 264 "" "" Has anyone seen this kind of "attack" before. dtml-var calling python script.

Hi, I have a python script(pyfoo) that expects 2 parameters foo1 and foo2. I'd like to invoke the script from a dtml code. So dtmlfoo is: ----------------------------------- <dtml-var pyfoo> ----------------------------------- my pyfoo is: ----------------------------------- ## Script (Python) "pyfoo" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters=foo1,foo2 ##title= ## # Example code: # Import a standard function, and get the HTML request and response objects. from Products.PythonScripts.standard import html_quote request = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE print foo1,'|',foo2,""; return printed ----------------------------------- Now, i place dtmlfoo in: /folder and place pyfoo in folder /folder/somewhere/there so i do invoke dtmlfoo: http://md5.ca/folder/somewhere/there/dtmlfoo?foo1=hello&foo2=world What I get is error, specifying that pyfoo expects 2 parameters, and i provided none. So.... i go to dtmlfoo, and change it like so: <dtml-call pyfoo> I do same invocation, it obviously works. Except that call does not expand into hello, world, which is normal. How can I get <dtml-var> to behave like dtml-call, as with respect to inhereting parameters from caller to callee? I already devised a workaround, for my current problem but its ugly, using dtml-in and other things... Any help is appreciated. p. -- Create like god, rule like a king, work like a slave.

How to get the path?

Hi all, I want to upload files to the filesystem on my server (not into zope's Data.fs) With <input type="file" name="file"> I get the filename...right? But If I want to copy it with an external method like this: copy = os.system('cp %s /tmp' %file.filename) it doesent work because file.filename is only the file but not the path... (for example test.pdf) How do I get the path?

ZPT newbie Q

I'm just starting to work with ZPT (as of today), the first question I have is; Is there a way to keep "template/title" from being displayed in the list that is generated by the tal:repeate directive? I'd like to generate a list of links that does not include the index_html page. My second question is: Is there any way to sort the list that's generated? --The code that I have-- <title tal:content="template/title">Title</title> </head> <body> Title <UL tal:condition="container/objectValues"> <LI tal:repeat="item container/objectValues"> ITEM </LI> </UL> thanks in advance

How to list subfolders of any folder in DTML?

Hi *, I'm having problems with what seems to be an easy task. I have a site which looks similar to below... Folder A Folder B Folder B1 Folder B2 Folder B3 Folder C Folder C1 Folder D Folder D1 Folder D2 I have a DTML Method in my Folder A named "listSubfolders" which contains the following code: <dtml-in "objectItems(['Folder'])" sort="id" skip_unauthorized> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></li> </dtml-in> I want the ability to call this object in any one index_html (DTML Document) within any one folder, to create some sort of navigation of it's subfolders. eg. If I'm looking at index_html in Folder B I would see - o Folder B1 o Folder B2 o Folder B3 So far the only way I can get this to work is change my DTML Documents to DTML Methods... which isn't really an option due to an existing ZCatalogue amongst other things. Hi! I am working in a research institute. we use cvs to organize the source code and zope to manage papers. I wonder if there a toolkit can merge cvs into zope interface, seems they are all file system. Debugging Zope Products

Hello everyone, I am trying to understand how to use the interactive dubugger and am stuck on something. At the very beginning of the "Interactive Debugging" section of the Zope Developers Guide: http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZDG/current/TestingAndDebugging.stx… There is this paragraph: "So, for the sake our example, let's say that you have a News object which is defined in a Zope Product called ZopeNews, and is located in the lib/python/Products/ZopeNews directory. The class that defines the News instance is also called News, and is defined in the News.py module in your product." I do not understand what the author means by "News object"? What exactly is a News object and how was it defined? Is it a class that was registered with the registrar object during product initialization? What would really help me is a tutorial using a real Zope product rather than a fake one like in the Developers Guide. Can anyone clear my confusion? I've never used PaperPort, but you are likely not wrong. The likely solution is to build a fat-client application using ZEO or XML-RPC and use Zope as a backend, which obviously would require a great deal of work. Alternately, if a web-based interface and for working with documents post-scan is okay, I assume you could write scripts to control your scanning software for batching document scan+upload, and upload this content into a CMF site, for example, assuming your Zope instance can interface with yet more component automation to talk to your OCR software (loaded on the Zope server?) for metadata extraction. I don't think Zope is an alternative to it. Albeit you can build one with it (cf. sean's post) keep in mind zope is web oriented, ie. you would have to build an interface based on html. Are you really looking for a web application? To provide the same ease of use as PaperPort in a browser would be quite a challenge, IMHO. Someone tell me I'm wrong... (well I suppose you could combine with Java or SASH+Javascript but...).
