Cautionary tale -- OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory

I would occasionally get these errors when trying to do things with certain Products I had written for our website. I had attributed it to Zope/ZEO weirdness and would usually just restart the server in frustration. Recently I had the opportunity to look into one of these incidences in more detail and found that the line it was choking on was a os.getcwd() It then dawned on me that we do a lot of "os.chdir()" in our Products to make sure we are in a directory we can write in. We also have at least one Product that deletes it's working directory after it is done. I imagined a situation where a Zope thread was os.chdir()ed into a working diretcory, then the directory was deleted, leaving the Zope thread *nowhere*. The next time os.getcwd() was called, it raised the above OSError ... The morals of the story: 1) if you use os.chdir in your Products, make sure you os.chdir() *back* when you are done. 2) If you use os.getcwd() in your Products, count on the fact that someone else's Product did not follow #1 by catching OSError and picking a decent cwd. My confusion comes from how some permissions are grouped. For instance if I want an author to be able to add new folders I can't just give them add folders permission I have to give them add folder and manage properties. The problem is that manage properties enables access to other actions that are outside the scope of an author i.e. changing user roles within folders and managing syndication. Is there another way to allow a user to add a folder without needing to give them manage properties permissions. New permissions

I can't seem to find an example of adding new/custom permissions to a Zope site. Maybe there's another way. I currently have a site with three types of users Author Author2 Editor Each role has specific things that they should be able to do. The problem I'm running into is that some permissions are lumped into categories that don't make sense for my users. For example: The author role should be able to create new content in any folder they should be limited in what content they can create. Authors should not be allowed to create news, new folders, topics, or events. Author2 can only create ONE type of document. Editors can create all types of documents. The problem I've run into is that Authors need to be able to create folders only under their home directories. Adding the "add folder" permission and the "manage properties" permission under the owner role allows this to happen. Unfortunately by adding the manage properties it also gives them access to syndication and local roles, which I do not want them to have. Zope doesn't start

Hi, I've installed Zope 2.6 on Debian (woody). When I start it, there's no problem: # /etc/init.d/zope start Starting Zope............................................................... done. But if I point my browser to Zope, I get nothig. And If I stop it, the following appears: Stopping Zope... done (Zope was not running). [removed stale z2 pidfile (pid 13731)] What's the problem? I found it true on Linux as well. It wasn't the load for me - my site is very lightly used, but when I put Apache in front of my debian server, my zope uptime now runs similar to my server uptime. Prior to Apache zope would crash every couple of days. I attributed that to malformed or not nice HTTP requests - no data to support that other than code red entries in my logs. Zope site redirection with Apache

Hi, I work in zope with an Apache server. Sometime ago I asked for using Apache instead ZServer to serve zope sites, and that work, but in order to publish the site into internet the communication services of my organization asked me, to redirect my zope project, a rooted and different-port direction. Clearly, Current state: 1- Redirection by using ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse Apaches directives and SiteRoot Zope object FROM my_server:8080/mySite TO my_server/mySite Those allow me to use Apache as front-end of my site in my internal web server, and internally I can browse my projects using port 80 of Apache. 2- So, now I asked to the comm. services to make this redirection FROM my_server/mySite TO www.my_org.fr/mySite 3- but they told me that this is no possible just something like that is FROM my_server:8090 to www.my_org.fr/mySite where if I browse http://my_server:8090 <http://my_server:8090/> I should be able to see the same as my_server/mySite Note: the port 8090 is an example Could does anybody help me?
