Hi, I'm currently using DBTab (1.2) to split my Zope database into three entities : - a Data.fs for my "main" database - a Catalog.fs for my huge "full-text indexing" catalog - a Users.fs to store my users database. These three databases are always and heavilly used by every request. I'm now going to add several new specific applications. For each of these applications, I'd like to create a new data file specific to it, but I have a few questions about this : - does it have any drawback ? - is there any limit on the number of data files that can be used without performance loss ? - when a request is received which doesn't implies any of these specific applications, are database connections automatically opened on them or not ? Best way to store data into objects.

Hi all! I'm planning a web site for companies catalogation based on tipology of products they treat with. In brief, for each company i need to store information like company name, a short description of their products, phone number, address, logo and so on. After this phase, the object that represent the company will be "saved" in a folder located in a structure like this: /root + Companies +-- Dresses +-- Shoes +-- Hats +-- Shirts +-- Hobbies +-- Fishing +-- Skateboards etc. Well, to keep the implementation simple, my thought is to store these data into a product "ad hoc" to this aim like PropertyFolder/PropertyObject OR Kube. They look quite similar and really i have problem deciding which one to use. Suggestions? Btw, the fact of don't store data in a real database server for a such simple applications is a good choice? Or maybe you would give better hints? Thanks. Paolo Dina

Hi everyone, Do anybody know if there is a project the would be able to read crystal reports that I already have. Rendering PageTemplateFile

...(the last mail was in the wrong thread)... Salut, is there any way to render a page template file that is located on the hard disk? Code excerpt in a product: def foo(self): pt = PageTemplateFile('show.zpt', _prefix=skins_prefix) print pt # prints <PageTemplateFile at 0x89c5000> return pt() # --> error There is nothing wrong with the page template (actually it doesn't contain any tals just plain text). Removing the error_log from Zope 2.6

Hi, I would like to turn of the error_log and let all errors log in the stupid log file. Having error messages going to a web page is not really efficient when developing. Also, has anyone a solution for fixing problems with refresh invalidating modular locals when Products are cross linked. (Turning refeash on and off in the Control_Panel/Products isn't really working for me.) (The refresh product that was before refresh got in to the core handle this much better.) Johan

Hi Chris I am brand new to Zope and also using Japanese. I came across this problem also. The reason is the default char encoding in the ZMI (particularly when editing e.g. DTML) is set to iso-8859-1. It needs to be set to Shift-JIS. If using IE and you change the char encoding to shift-JIS before you save (then view the page), you can verify this issue. To "fix" it you need to change this to Shift-JIS in the file "manage_page_header.dtml" (in <websitefolder>/lib/python/App/dtml/) like follows <dtml-if "REQUEST.get('management_page_charset')"> <dtml-comment> A page-specific encoding specification. Good. </dtml-comment> <dtml-elif management_page_charset> <dtml-comment> A site-global encoding specification in a property. Note that this feature only works if there are no unicode objects around. This means that this feature is not likely to be supported in all future versions of zope. </dtml-comment> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('management_page_charset',_['management_page_charset'])"> <dtml-else> <dtml-comment> No encoding specification. Most pages are like this. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('management_page_charset','iso-8859-1')"> </dtml-comment> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('management_page_charset','SHIFT_JIS')"> </dtml-if> -- the part of interest is the 2nd last line. I say "fix" because I am not sure if it is the official way to fix it, but it works for me. If anyone with more experience can suggest a better or more elegant solution, I'd be happy to hear it. problem in zcatlog indexing

I am following http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/current/SearchingZCatalog.… to learn how to use zcatlog. and having some problem. when i try to produce "Figure 9-3 Managing indexes" I got different thing: instead of having "ZCatlog at /AnimalTracker" I got "ZCatalogIndex at /AnimalTracker" and there are three tabs: undo, ownership security. and i can not difine index. How can i fix this problem and define index correctly? Thanks

how to use LocalFS to expose F/S directory?

Have installed (I think) LocalFS but don't understand how to expose a directory such as /tmp/foo within the zope URL hierarchy. I expected to see a new file type "LocalFS portal" or something in the "Add" pulldown menu. I read a message from ~a year ago by Johnathan, the LocalFS author, saying it wasn't being kept up to date. Plone (collaborative CMS/portal - plone.org) + Archetypes (schema-driven content types with support for office docs http://sf.net/projects/archetypes <http://sf.net/projects/archetypes> ) + ExternalEditor (used WebDAV to allow you to use msword as an editor) would be the kind of system you would want, and all the components needed here are free. Archetypes would even allow you to write a plugin to store your stuff in your relational database, if you decided that the Zope object database wasn't most appropriate. The only catch here is that you would likely need to do some glue coding to get all of this working, or get some assistance from a competent, experienced Plone developer.
