Can't get past the login screen...

I've installed Zope on a RH system, I get the password dialog (for 3 gerr... days) but nothing else, the system continues to ask for a correct username/password. I have run the zpasswd.py script with "access" and "inituser" in both the /usr/lib/zope2.7 and it's "bin" directory, used clear passwords, and the default, changed permissions (on everything) to "zope" (Zope runs as user zope on my system). Restarted after each password change, run it with Galeon, Mozilla, Konqueror... From a remote machine and a local, searched the mailing list (Yahoo lists SUCKS, btw), Google, and the Zope site and read the logs. The best message I have received from zope comes from Konqueror "Authentication Failed!" Can anyone suggest how I might get Zope working? Thank you. (This is SO FRUSTRATING!!!) -Ron Details: RH 7.2, Zope: 2.7.0-b2, Python2-2.2.3-1, Zope and Python compiled and installed from rpm's.

Internal representation of permissions acquisition

When looking into Zope's internal representation of permissions and so forth, I found something strange... Suppose, for example, I have checked 'Anonymous' for 'View' on a particular object, a new attribute called ' _View_Permission' is created in my object. Here's the strange thing: If I leave 'Acquire' checked, _View_Permission = ['Anonymous'] If I uncheck 'Acquire', _View_Permission = ('Anonymous',) Please confirm or deny my hypothesis that the sequence data type assigned to a particular permission is the only way that Zope determines whether permissions should be acquired or not. It appears to me that the use of a list is Zope's internal representation of a checked 'Acquire Permissions' box, and the use of a tuple represents an unchecked 'Acquire Permissions' box.

Noob question on ZClass add script

I was trying to modify the standard add form and the NewZClass_add python script so that my newly instantiated ZClass would use the properties in my more verbose add form (standard only has object id). I have: # Add a new instance of the ZClass request = context.REQUEST instance = container.LinkFolderClass.createInObjectManager(request['id'], request) instance.manage_changeProperties(title=request['myFolder_title']) instance.manage_changeProperties(LinkFolderByline=request['myFolder_Byline']) instance.manage_changeProperties(LinkFolderText=request['myFolder_Text']) But this doesn't seem to change the properties of my new ZClass instance, but instead changes the title property of its container. Obviously this is the wrong way. What's the right way? -- Jon

Traversal Issue (brain fart)

Hi all, I have a python script that reads a file in from LocalFS on the hard drive. I am parsing it and creating objects in a tree structure based on the parsed data. I have found various examples that have gotten me this far. I cannot seem to get a grip on how to cleanly move around the ZODB in Zope to create the Folders, Sub Folders, and then add properties to specific folders. At the last step in my program which adds a final set of folders and will need to add properties to them, I seem to completely loose the "Context" of the current folder. Any pointers or examples to clarify how to programmatically specify where my objects are created would be much appreciated. I am sure it is much simpler than I have made it. Perhaps you can enable it on your browser, but not all the users have it enabled (the same as for the back button applies here). I think it's much easier if they use the back button. I think it's not that difficult, after few sesions with X brower, to realize that it has a back button :-). Unless off course if you were using a text browser, _that_ doesn't give you the possibility to go back. With lynx you can go back, but one never knows if there is another browser that doesn't support this. For the last case, you could create a link by using the "HTTP_REFERER" property of the REQUEST object, which tells you from which page the user came from. So that, you don't have to bother you with javascript. You have to bother you with ZPT, DTML, and/or python :-) Regards, Josef

Hi, how to use i18n (with Localizer) in zpt's without CMF&Plone? (State of the Art?) Is something like: <span i18n:translate="string:my_message" > You are here: </span> possible? (zope 2.6.2 or 2.7. without CMF&Plone) I found info about the use together with CMF/Plone but nothing without and I know how to use it this way: <span tal:replace="python: here.Localizer.i18n('my_message:')" tal:omit-tag=""> Sie sind hier: </span> But I would prefer the i18n:namespace-syntax and flexibility. May be patching zope is an option for that? -- Any hints would be great, Elena

unauthorized tal repeat by class method

RESPONSE.write - Still not working

Thanks to those who responded with some ideas regarding my RESPONSE.write problem - but it's still not working! Based on the responses I now have a dtml method containing (note: I have tried it with and without the Transfer-Encoding header): <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Transfer-Encoding', 'chunked')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'text/plain')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.write('Starting\n')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.flush()"> <dtml-call "wait(5)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.write('Done\n')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.flush()"> The 'wait' routine is still a simple external method: import time def wait(self, secs): time.sleep(secs) return What I expected to see was the word 'Started' displayed in my browser, followed by a 5 second delay, and then see the word 'Done' displayed. What I get is a 5 second delay and then both 'Started' and 'Done" appear at the same time. FYI: I am running zope 2.6.1, python 2.1.3, RedHat linux 2.4.20, Apache 1.3.26 Any other ideas would be great! Thanks again, Jonathan
