PIL and TIFF problem

I have installed Easy Image and PIL 1.1.4 on my Zope 2.6.1 with Python 2.1.3 on Windows XP. It works well with jpg and other formats, but when I try to upload a TIFF image (wich is precisely what I want) it gives me the error: IOError "decoder tiff_ccitt not available" I have followed the guide on Zope.org (http://www.zope.org/Members/SmileyChris/howto/pil_for_windows) to install PIL, and I have no idea what can I be doing wrong. Running ExternalMethods using ZopeTestCase

The id, _module (Module name) and _function (Function name) attributes are returning correct value, as verified by the print statements. The problem seems to be that when I actually call the method it can't find the module in the file system, to verify this print self.app.test2.company.filepath() returns None. I have set the instance home variable and environment variable and the print statements above show the right values, in my case "C:\Program Files\Plone\Data". I have traced this through some of the source code. The call to the external method goes down into the __call__ function of Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py and from there it calls _getPath from App\Extensions.py. This is where the cause of the problem seems to be: the cause of the problem is that the instance_home variable loses it's value - it becomes "C:\Program Files\Plone\Zope\lib\python\Testing". The Intance_home environment variable still has the correct value. This causes zope to be unable to find the external method. Any help would be greatly appreciated Tim Edwards

CMF: Fields not available in objects found by catalog search?

Greetings. I'm constructing a "schedule" page in Plone, following closely the example of the news page and events slot. It lists information about Events (CMF Event type) that meet specified criteria (keyword, start date within a specified range, etc.) by calling container.portal_catalog(). So far, so good. I can then iterate over the returned result set, call getObject on each element, and access fields of the object such as "Title" and "Description". However, not all of the Event type's fields seem to be available. If I try to access "location" or "contact_name" (or "Location" or "ContactName"), I get a KeyError. No such field. What gives? Why are some fields not accessible? And where can I hack something to make them accessible? Are products the right approach?

Since I'm new at Zope, I would value your opinions very much about my choices in this first project. My first Zope project is creating an intranet for a local TV company. They wish to store information about their equipment, spare parts, etc., and maintain logs about the equipment's current state (working, out of order, being maintained, etc.). (note: This is only a small part of their intranet, extracted for discussion purposes). Right now, I've made the following folder structure: ---------------------------------- /root ... intranet Technical Equipment SpareParts ---------------------------------- I have created two product classes called Equipment and SpareParts. As it might be obvious, objects of class Equipment should only be created in the folder Equipment, and likewise with SpareParts. Objects of both classes store information about the specific piece of equipment or spare part. I've also made a superclass called "Loggable", which they inherit to be able to create logs about the use and maintainance of said object. The logs, however, are stored in a relational database. I've done it this way, because I need to create reports later on for the equipment and spare parts based on the logs. So the "class hierarchy" is pretty much like: SimpleItem Loggable |------+-----| | Equipment and the same for SparePart At the moment, I'm not sure this is the right approach. My judgement may be clouded since I come from the relational-DB world. 1) Should Equipment and SparePart be classes or perhaps instead tables in my RDBMS? (ATM they are classes to facilitate the history/undo functionality in Zope) 2) Should I make it all as classes (including the Log)? 3) How do you make relations between objects in Zope? (For use in eg. reporting) 4) I'm going to make a scheduled "event handler" that sends out mail messages based on the latest log entries. This needs to be able to find an object in ZODB based on the log entry - how do I make this connection? I deliberately did not include any source code, since this is more a discussion of techniques and principles. If any of you wish to see some of my code before answering, please say so. Zope refuses to update file contents

Hi list, I have someone here using the ZMI (direct, not proxied through apache) to update PDF files that are stored in the ZODB. The wierd part is this: 1) (from ZMI) select File 2) hit 'Edit' tab 3) 'Browse' to new file on local drive 4) 'Upload' When she is done, she hits the 'View' tab and sees the old document. So I deleted the file altogether from Zope, and created a new one in its place. It is still the old file. ?!?!?!?! There is no caching turned on AFAICT. The culprit is: Zope 2.6.1 (binary release, python 2.1, linux2-x86), python 2.1.3, linux2 2.1.3 (#1, Sep 19 2002, 13:15:46) [GCC egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)] Any ideas, o amorphous mass of Zope knowledge? -- mitchy

Hi Bernd, my problem was that I had installed PlacelessTranslationService after TranslationService. This is a problem since only one service can be installed. After removing it everything works according to http://www.zope.org/Members/efge/TranslationService I think this should be noted somewhere in the docs. -- Elena

Hi, I am attempting to implement a back button in my zpt page. The following code works in IE but not Mozilla Firebird. When I click the button in Firebird nothing happens. I have checked the options in Firebird and javascipt is enabled. HOWOT: DirectoryStorage and Zope under Debian

I've recently become a fan of DirectoryStorage: http://dirstorage.sourceforge.net/ and spent some time getting it happy under Debian's Zope package. In case others may want to do the same, here's how I got it working: 0) The assumption is that all the following are performed as root. 1) Install Zope in the normal Debian fashion. (# apt-get install zope). Note: I didn't install the 'zopectl' package. 2) Install DirectoryStorage as per the install instructions in /usr/lib/zope/lib/python, and copy the product directory over to the appropriate Zope instance. For me that was /var/lib/zope/instance/default/Products. 3) Follow the rest of the DirectoryStorage installation instructions. 4) custom_zodb.py should look something like: --<cut>-- import os,sys from DirectoryStorage.Full import Full as S from DirectoryStorage.Filesystem import Filesystem # Change this to point to your database directory fs = Filesystem('/var/lib/zope/instance/default/var/Data_fs_dir') Storage = S(fs) --<cut>-- Your path for the value of `fs` may vary if you're using a non-default instance. 5) Edit /etc/zope/zopectlrc and comment out the ZOPEOPTS line which specifies the zope user as shown in the following excerpt: --<cut>-- ZOPEOPTS="${ZOPEOPTS} --pid ${zope_pidfile}" # ZOPEOPTS="${ZOPEOPTS} -u zope" ZOPEOPTS="${ZOPEOPTS} -l ${zope_logfile}" ZOPEOPTS="${ZOPEOPTS} -z ${ZOPE_HOME}" --<cut>-- 6) Edit /etc/init.d/zope and edit the first case such that it reads: --<cut>-- start|stop|restart|force-reload) su - zope -c "$ZOPECTL $ZOPECTLOPTS $1 $ZOPEOPTS" ;; --<cut>-- FYI the original form of the line was: $ZOPECTL $ZOPECTLOPTS $1 $ZOPEOPTS 7) Do the following (edit as appropriate for your instance) to get the permissions right on the log and pid files, the instance specific Products, and the DirectoryStorage hierarchy you just created: # chown zope.zope /var/run/zope/default /var/run/zope/default/* # chown zope.zope /var/log/zope/default /var/run/zope/default/* # cd /var/lib/zope/instance/default # find . | xargs chown zope.zope 8) Start zope: # /etc/init.d/zope/start You should see many new files being created under your DirectoryStorage hierarchy and after a short delay while a default ZODB is instantiated, Zope should be running atop the new storage layer. 9) Follow the rest of the DirectoryStorage installation and operation instructions.
