httpd.conf Zope on Apache-based ISP

Hi all, I'm putting a Zope site on an Apache based hosting service. They've asked me to suggest the virtual hosts section of httpd.conf and for me to run Zope on 8081 to avoid conflicts. The files are in a folder called /websites/patrkirk/public_html/ with a cgi folder called /websites/patrkirk/public_html/cgi_bin/ It seems that there are very many ways of doing this and I'm at a loss how to choose the right way. Can anyone suggest an authoritative URL that simply allows zope to run on some high number port with Apache serving up its pages? I have no access to Apache so extensive re-writes of httpd.conf are unlikely to be accepted by the ISP. Overview of changes in 2.7.0 ??

I am running 2.6.* and is trying out this newfangled Zope 2.7.0 thing. I have no problem setting it up, getting it running etc. But is there any good documentation on what the changes are, and what they mean. The closest I could come to something readable was: http://www.mechanicalcat.net/richard/log/Python/What_s_new_in_Zope_2_7_0 But that is a bit short on information. regards Max M

Installing zexp - " The object ... does not support this operation."

Caching Catalog results for performance

Hi all, I am working on a portal where we want to cache some catalog queries per person for some time, from few seconds to few minutes - since the data is something that does not need to be updated every single pageload, but can be cached for seconds - sometimes even for multiple minutes per user. What we have been thinking so har is this: - Cached data will be stored in ram in Temporary folder in simple object that will store data in it's attribute. Memory is not an issue for now, and if it will become - cached data will be stored in ZODB, rather than kept all the time in the memory. - Since brains are unpickleable we will create a dictionary from the brain by getting schema from the Catalog and then just getting each metadatafield from the brain Has anyone else done similar or thought about doing it? -- -huima

Hello, I am looking for info on how to use * RAM Cache Manager* *** Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager* ** I am using Zope 2.7 How do I interpret the numbers in the Statistics? I have a Ram Chache and get rather lot of misses. How can I improve the hits ? What I want to improve is a plone site. Much of the time (as I can see from a profiler) is spent in creating the news list. However this list is nearly static (only every couple of days any changes). How can I improve that ? thanks for your info Robert

server_capabilities - resolution

So that others may google this info: I recently kept getting an error in a zope product (ZWarehouse) about a missing attribute: "server_capabilities". I resolved it by copying the MySQL headers and include files from the source package into directories in /usr/lib and /usr/include and running ldconfig Poor Yorick zope(a)pooryorick.org

I am assumming that all data on a Zope hosted website resides in Data.fs even if you are running a Plone site. If so, how do you update something like Plone news items from the command line? -- John

Renaming folders uploaded with FTP

Hello, I want to rename files and folders that are uploaded into Zope via FTP. The main reason is that Zope prevents objects to start with an underscore ("_"). How to install PIL on Zope 2.7 series ?

Hi all , I found sometimes ago an explanation on how to install PIL on a Zope 2.6.x . Now that i run a 2.7 one , would you help me to install my PIL please ? I need it for CMFPhotoALbum and ZPhotoSlide . The main question would be : Do I have to install it system wide ( in /usr/lib/python2.3/xxx ) or somewhere else ( where exactly?) under the zope installation ?
