how to install zope product?

I want to install in product Extensible User Folder in my zope which is residing in redhat 9.0. Can i just simply copy the product to ./lib/python/Products then restart server to install this product? Thanks

Localizer and search robots are not good friends

Hi all, I already asked this on plone list but did not get any answer... We have a website (http://www.africamuseum.be <http://www.africamuseum.be/> ) localized in 3 languages with Localizer. We use the classic method 'accept_cookie' to switch languages. However this website is only indexed in english in search engines like google. Do you know a good way to solve this problem. I've seen snippets of answers in the web but did not manage to find the good one yet. Should I change the lang attributes in the meta tags according to the selected language? I set up coreblog and it's fine. I can post to this the regular way etc. I've also set up an email address to which I can successfully sent email (and checked that this works via webmail) I've set up the blog settings to reflect the mail server, username and password for the POP account, password for adding entries and sender address. I send mail and then hit the URL at the bottom of the (moblog settings) page manually to test this. Nothing *appears* to happen and the blog isn't updated. Now I haven't set up the wget yet to hit that url. Do I need to before this will work or should it be working now ? Any ideas on where I can look for more help? Kate

This is version 1.0.0 of mxmCounter. It counts hits on a webpage. **Description** I needed a simple filesystem hit counter for zope, for my own site, but found the existing products wanting. I didn't really want to be bothered with installing a statistics package, and setting it up with Apache etc. Also, some of my customers have asked for the functionality on their sites. So I developed a new product that was more in line with what I wanted. **Features** *Fast, and doesn't grow the ZODB* It is Ram based and only saved to disk for every n count. *Works for all pages on the site* You only need to install one instance of the product for all pages. An "infinite" amount of counters are automatically created. *ip adress blocking* You can block one, more or ranges of adresses that should be prevented from incrementing the counter. So you can check out your hit-rate without increasing the count. :-) *Cookie based blocking* Sets a cookie so the counter will increment only once. Until the browser is restarted. *Simple one page counter overview* You can see all the hit counter on a single page. mening that you can keep them hidden for normal users. Best way to create a (real estate) property in Zope?

While I've played a bit with Zope, I don't feel that I've got a decent understanding of how it works and how I should do things. I've got ZPT working and understand its concepts (although my grasp on the syntax is tenuous - but that's a familiarity thing). I'm using metal too. And I've got a python script grabbing form data and emailing it to me. All fairly basic stuff. I need to move on. As we run a couple of web sites for (real) estate agents (using different tools), I was toying with the idea of making something which would allow me to create properties (that's real estate properties. I'll call them houses from now on :-) To keep things simple, each house will have an address, postcode, brief description, detailed description, number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms. We'll expand this later to include other attributes - including images and virtual tours, but for the time being lets keep things simple. Oh. For this example we need to bear in mind that we'll be searching on the number of bedrooms and/or bathrooms (which seems to be where ZCatalogs come into play. I'll look at these later - at the moment we just need to know that at some point we'll want to build in this search capability). I have 2 problems: 1) How should I create my houses? Should I write a product? Use ZClasses? What? 2) What form should houses take? Folder like objects? To answer my own questions: I guess we're looking at a product here? Is that really the best way to go? I want to teach myself best practices so if this isn't the best way to go, please let me know. And do I _have_ to use DTML when creating products? What form would houses take? I'm guessing they're folder like objects - but my grip on this is getting tenuous. At it's simplest a house would be a folder. In the folder would be a plain text file for brief description, another for detailed description, another for the number of rooms etc. But this feels wrong. Shouldn't these be properties of the folder? But if that's the case, why would houses be a folder like object? Wouldn't they be Python Script objects? And then when I come to add images, what happens with them? See. There's some basic concept which hasn't clicked with me. I'm waiting for that little <ahh />, now I understand the Zope concept. Can anyone help me here. Firstly, with a different way of looking at Zope concepts. Secondly, with some solid, practical advice as to how my houses should be built. (Sorry. Weak willed. Persisting data in a module for hit counter

I have a dictionary that I want to share between request, but I do not want it to be persistent in the zodb. Rather I want to pickle it and store it on the filesystem. Getting the pickled data is easy enough, as I only need to read the pickled file at the module level. The problem is when zope is stopped, or a module is reloaded, then it looses all data. Is there any way to know when a module goes out of scope, so that I can get a hook to save/pickle the dictionary? Or at least a way to know when zope is shut down? My alternative option is to set a counter that saves the data after n number of write to the dictionary. This can work, as it is not critical data anyway. -------------------- It's a simple hit counter/stat module, that stores counts as: counters = { urlpath:count, } It has the advantage over FScounter in that it only needs one instance to work for all pages in a site. Ie. if you put this code into the footer of a Plone site, you will get a counter on all pages.: This page has been visited: <span tal:content="python:here.mxm_counter.count(here)"/> times. Also you can have a nice statistics page with a list of visited pages. It works nicely allready, but only between restarts :-) regards Max M

Hi, I posted the following message a few weeks ago, to explain a problem of duplicated keys into a BTreeFolder2 subclass. After looking for the origins of this problem, I just discovered a possible one : - the authentication into my web site is done via an LDAPUserFolder component ; - for an unknown reason (I don't know LDAP very much !), if a user authenticate himself using spaces before or after his user name, authentication is OK ; - if I try to create a new entry into my profiles folder using this user name (including spaces !), the entry is created into the BTreeFolder2 without spaces, and that seems to create duplicated keys !! Could I be wrong ?? I tried to resolve this problem by just striping the user name automatically before creating or loading his profile, and that seems to work. But I would always like to know if I look into the right side, and if there is any way to repair my broken duplicated keys... Thanks for any help or advise. Thierry ======================================================================== Hi, I'm currently using a subclass of a "BTreeFolder2" as a container to store my Zope (2.6.1) intranet site users profiles (with actually nearly 6000 profiles). Everything works OK but I have a little problem : a few keys (~50) are duplicated into the folder, visible at the beginning of the folder content ; some of the keys are even duplicated several times and visible without real order (see 'jmdal' on the attached screenshot !). The problem also is that if I try to remove a duplicated key, the corresponding entry is removed, but the other keys are kept, pointing to nothing !! I've tried to use the "manage_cleanup" method available with the last release of BTreeFolder2, but without success : result is "No damage detected" !! So my questions are : - how can I avoid these duplicated keys, as long as I only add my users profiles via a simple Python script which shouldn't break keys, with : if not context.users.has_key(username): context.users.manage_addProduct['MyProduct'].manage_addUserProfile(username) - as the profile's creation is automatic as soon as the user is authenticated (it's an internal site !), could the problem be due to 'concurrent' method calls ?? - is it possible to rebuild the folder keys, without breaking the pointed records ??
