python backup script

I've created a python script that backs up zope/plone sites to the local machine. The same effect could probably be done with some crafty shell scripting, but I'm not familiair with that. This python script might be useful for some other people on the list. To use it you need to have Curl on your system (could be recoded to use httplib I think). Have fun! Marcel Maré WebToTheMax

Maximum Size of DTML Document/Method

Hello. I have a dtml method that takes up 31KB and when I try to add another line of code to it, Zope won't let me. Have I exceeded the size limits defined by Zope? If so, is there a way these limits can be extended? If not, will packing the Zope database help? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - Asad

Using the Property Manager to build simple forms...

I'm a newbie to developing products in Zope, and am struggling with how to easily build classes with multiple property sheets that don't allow the user to add and remove fields. I've looked at ZClasses, but everyone says not to use them. I've looked at inheriting from PropertyManager but the standard interface allows the user to modify the fields. Here's what I need : 1. The ability to define properties for an object. 2. The ability to set up one or more ZMI forms to change the values in these properties. The purpse of multiple forms is that there may be many properties, and I want to group them into bite-size chunks. Also, different people will be editing different groups. 3. The ability to derive an object from a base class that itself has pre-defined properties and it's own editing pages. 4. I don't want to hand code property editing pages every time I add a simple property (like a text or date field). Thanks, Russell Fine

Bug in ZTUtil.Batch

Hi Zopers It seems that there is a bug in ZTUtil.Batch: when the batch should be the length of the batch and there are exactly as many orphans as there would fit on one page the length of the batch becomes size instead of size+orphans. Here are the numbers: no of batches start end orphan length sequence_length 1 1 12 3 12 12 1 1 10 3 10 13 <<< WRONG, end/length should be 13 2 1 10 3 10 14 So, there is a jump on the edge where there should be one batch of the length sequence_length == length+orphans. At that point 3 (in the above case) items disappear. I have looked at the code in Batch.py but not found the solution, yet. Zope's configure

Is anyone here familiar with how Zope's configure script works? I would like to try and make a change to the makefile and am not sure of the best way of doing that. I guess it would be best to make changes to configure.py. I wonder why the standard GNU build tools like autoconf and automake are not used for Zope... -- John

packing database crashes zope

I packed our zope-database (zope 2.6.2), but after a while this error appears: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. exceptions.ValueError Sorry, a site error occurred. In the var-dir there are (among others) following files: 780M Mar 19 01:35 Data.fs 162M Mar 19 02:25 Data.fs.pack Can I assume that Data.fs.pack is the newly packed database and is not corrupted or incomplete?
