Managing Catalog indexes is timing out
by Chris Muldrow 05 Nov '03

I can't seem to get into the index manage tab for our main Catalog. It times out before it displays the indexes. Any ideas? (It's got one ZCTextindex and a few FieldIndexes inside) Zope version: (Zope 2.6.2 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.3, linux2) * Python version: 2.1.3 (#1, Apr 9 2002, 22:27:11) [GCC 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)]

Problem when trying to use metal macros from another page template
by Josef Meile 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

Hi, in the past I had some security issues because I was using a bad way to add dinamically attributes to my Page Templates (thanks to Chris Withers to point it out and to Dieter for the solution). I was doing: manage_addJMBoringForm=PageTemplateFile('zpt/JMBoring_Add',globals()) manage_addJMBoringForm.Kind='JMBoring' then I replaced it for: _addJMBoringForm=PageTemplateFile('zpt/JMBoring_Add',globals()) def manage_addJMBoringForm(self): return _addJMBoringForm.__of__(self)(Kind='JMBoring') Now the issue that I'm having is that the later approach doesn't work when the attribute that I want to store in the "options" built-in variable is a Page Template with macros. I have the following structure: Base Class JMZPTMacros: <ZopeHome>/lib/python/Shared/JMUtils/JMZPTMacros.py <ZopeHome>/lib/python/Shared/JMUtils/zpt: Here I have the following Page Templates with some macros that I use from my other product JMBoring: generic.zpt generic_add.zpt generic_edit.zpt generic_view.zpt Product JMBoring, which subclases from JMZPTMacros: <ZopeHome>/lib/python/Products/JMBoring/JMBoring.py <ZopeHome>/lib/python/Products/JMBoring/zpt Here I have some Page Templates that use the macros defined on the JMZPTMacros product: index_html.zpt JMBoring_Add.zpt JMBoring_Edit.zpt JMBoring_View.zpt What I'm trying to do is to call some macros from "generic.zpt" and "generic_add.zpt" in "JMBoring_Add.zpt". The main problem is that the "JMBoring_Add.zpt" Template is loaded outside of the JMBoring class definition (constructor methods are declared before the classe definition), while the other Templates like: "manage_view", "index_html", and "manage_main" are inside, so, they can access the macros in the "JMZPTMacros" base class just by typing: Execute macro but in the JMBoring_Add.zpt, an AttributeError exception is raised. I guess it's because the other Templates are called from an instance of JMBoring, so, they have access to the methods of the base class JMZPTMacros, while when calling this template, an instance of such class still doesn't exist, for this is a contructor method. That's how I did it (It has the security assertions that Chris mentioned before): file <ZopeHome>/lib/python/Shared/JMUtils/JMZPTMacros.py: from Products.PageTemplates.PageTemplateFile import PageTemplateFile class JMZPTMacros: generic_add=PageTemplateFile('zpt/generic_add',globals()) generic_add._owner=None generic_edit=PageTemplateFile('zpt/generic_edit',globals()) generic_edit._owner=None generic_view=PageTemplateFile('zpt/generic_view',globals()) generic_view._owner=None generic=PageTemplateFile('zpt/generic',globals()) generic._owner=None file <ZopeHome>/lib/python/Products/JMBoring/JMBoring.py: ################################################ Here comes some imports and variable definitions that one has to do to give the class the basic characteristics of a zope product. They weren't included on this message. ################################################ _addJMBoringForm=PageTemplateFile('zpt/JMBoring_Add',globals()) def manage_addJMBoringForm(self): """Here some attributes are added to the template""" #The following two lines should be replaced with a safer #implementation _addJMBoringForm.generic=JMZPTMacros.generic _addJMBoringForm.generic_add=JMZPTMacros.generic_add _addJMBoringForm._owner=None return _addJMBoringForm.__of__(self)(Kind='JMBoring') def manage_addJMBoring(self,id,title='',description='',REQUEST=None,submit=None) : """Invoques the __init__ method of the JMBoring class""" id=id.replace(' ','_') boringObj=JMBoring(id,title, description) self._setObject(id,boringObj) if REQUEST is not None: try: destURL=self.DestinationURL() except: destURL=REQUEST['URL1'] if submit==" Add and Edit ": destURL="%s/%s" % (destURL,quote(id)) REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(destURL+'/manage_main') return '' class JMBoring(SimpleItem, PropertyManager, JMZPTMacros): """JMBoring class definition""" ################################################ Here comes all the stuff necessary to make my class work as a zope product (__init__ method, security declarations, properties, etc.). It wasn't included on this message ################################################ manage_main=PageTemplateFile('zpt/JMBoring_Edit',globals()) manage_main._owner=None ################################################ More stuff comes here ################################################ manage_view=PageTemplateFile('zpt/JMBoring_View',globals()) manage_view._owner=None index_html=PageTemplateFile('zpt/index_html',globals()) index_html._owner=None InitializeClass(JMBoring) Then I called the macros in JMBoring_Add.zpt: Add Header Optional fields are written in italic <tr> <td align="left" valign="top"> <div class="form-optional">description</div> </td> <td align="left" valign="top"> <textarea name="description" rows="6" cols="35"></textarea> </td> </tr> Generic Footer This works, but as mentioned before, it's not safe. Then I tried the following without any success: def manage_addJMBoringForm(self): """Here some attributes are added to the template""" #I only replaced the line where the generic #Template was included. This line uses the unsafe #sintax _addJMBoringForm.generic_add=JMZPTMacros.generic_add _addJMBoringForm._owner=None #Here I included the generic Template as an attribute of the options #built-in variable return _addJMBoringForm.__of__(self)(Kind='JMBoring',generic=JMZPTMacros.generic) Then I called it: Generic Footer I got the following traceback: Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 39, in call_object Module Products.JMBoring.JMBoring, line 70, in manage_addJMBoringForm Module Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings, line 252, in __call__ Module Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings, line 283, in _bindAndExec Module Products.PageTemplates.PageTemplateFile, line 96, in _exec Module Products.PageTemplates.PageTemplate, line 95, in pt_render - <PageTemplateFile at /> Module TAL.TALInterpreter, line 200, in __call__ Module TAL.TALInterpreter, line 244, in interpret Module TAL.TALInterpreter, line 689, in do_useMacro Module Products.PageTemplates.TALES, line 220, in evaluate - URL: JMBoring_Add - Line 17, Column 0 - Expression: standard:'options/generic/macros/genericFooter' - Names: {'container': <__FactoryDispatcher__ instance at 015C0980>, 'default': <Products.PageTemplates.TALES.Default instance at 00A85474>, 'here': <__FactoryDispatcher__ instance at 015C0980>, 'loop': <SafeMapping instance at 015EFFF0>, 'modules': <Products.PageTemplates.ZRPythonExpr._SecureModuleImporter instance at 00A85A34>, 'nothing': None, 'options': {'Kind': 'JMBoring', 'args': (), 'generic': <PageTemplateFile at 0xa69970>}, 'repeat': <SafeMapping instance at 015EFFF0>, 'request': <HTTPRequest, URL=http://localhost:8080/manage_addProduct/JMBoring/manage_addJMBoringForm> , 'root': <Application instance at 015ABE18>, 'template': <PageTemplateFile at />, 'traverse_subpath': [], 'user': admin} Module Products.PageTemplates.Expressions, line 206, in __call__ Module Products.PageTemplates.Expressions, line 194, in _eval Module Products.PageTemplates.Expressions, line 150, in _eval - __traceback_info__: options Module Products.PageTemplates.Expressions, line 371, in restrictedTraverse - __traceback_info__: {'path': ['generic', 'macros', 'genericFooter'], 'TraversalRequestNameStack': ['genericFooter', 'macros']} TypeError: 'in' or 'not in' needs sequence right argument Same when I only use: or So, I did: and I got: {'args': (), 'Kind': 'JMBoring', 'generic': <PageTemplateFile at 0xa69970>} Wich means that my template is in the options variable, but for some reason the macros stored there can't be used. Queries about Zope
by Adrien Driver 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

Hi I've just started evaluating Zope a few weeks ago to replace our school's old web site. While the documentation is great I'm having trouble tracking down some pointers to the following: 1. Setting up some type of version control. I've installed ZopeVersionControl from http://cvs.zope.org/Products/ZopeVersionControl but can't figure out how to use it (it is installed as a product). The help files not finished. 2. Workflows - I need to implement workflows for editing approvals etc. 3. Setting up a staging area and then publishing to a live version. I read something about Zope "versions" and I read somewhere to stay away from them. I tried versions but again I had trouble getting them to work. Is a staging -> live setup possible? Is there a better alternative? I've installed the CMF (1.4.2). I've even looked at Plone (after dropping down to CMF 1.3.3) but I don't want a portal setup, I'd like just a basic site which has version control, workflows and a type of staging/live arrangement. I've installed the LDAPUserFolder product to control access to parts of the site as well as managing it. Can anyone point me to some information. Fw: Enrollment Error (fwd)
by Dennis Allison 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

When executing a method throught the web, we have seen the following error message... > > Site Error > An error was encountered while publishing this resource. > > Error Type: IOError > Error Value: [Errno 13] Permission denied: > '<<<some directory path>>>/var/Data.fs.index.index_tmp' > which googling suggests is due to the protections of the var directory not having public write permissions set. My configuration vis a vis permissions is right out of the book drwxr-xr-t 2 root root 4096 Oct 27 17:39 var with zope running as a local user ( -u zope ). The question, then, is "What should the permissions on var be?".

ZCatalog metadata from images on the web? /kv
by Kai Vermehr 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

Is it possible to use Zope (and Zcatalog) to scan and index the metadata of images on predefined URLs? The idea is to edit all necessary metadata of the images on the local machine with a fast tool. Then upload it to a regular file system via ftp and let Zope scan and index the content including the metadata of that folder. This way the files themselves would hold all the metadata and we would not have to enter it through the ZMI. Zope would be used for deploying the images using their inherited metadata. Zope would not be used for editing metadata of the images ... This way the metadata of an image would not be bound to an application, in this case Zope. The same folder with images could be reused with a different (metadata aware) application. is this possible? -- and would it make sense? 'K:?

ZODB.POSException.ConflictError (in custommade product)
by Gitte Wange 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

Hello, I have created a small tool for CMF to count how many times a specific object has been viewed. It's very simple. It works by a call I have added to my main_template.pt that calls the tool with the URL of recent object and counts up by 1. Now from time to time we see the following error: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. ZODB.POSException.ConflictError Sorry, a site error occurred. Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 150, in publish_module Module Products.Localizer, line 58, in new_publish Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 127, in publish Module Products.Localizer, line 58, in new_publish Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 127, in publish Module Products.Localizer, line 58, in new_publish Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 127, in publish Module Products.Localizer, line 58, in new_publish Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 122, in publish Module Zope.App.startup, line 142, in zpublisher_exception_hook Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 102, in publish Module Zope.App.startup, line 200, in commit Module ZODB.Transaction, line 235, in commit Module ZODB.Transaction, line 349, in _commit_objects Module ZODB.Connection, line 300, in commit ConflictError: database conflict error (oid 000000000001c065, class Products.CMFCounter.CMFCounterTool.CMFCounterTool) What is causing this error ?? Have I made some mistakes in the code of my tool ? Any hints - because the error is really annoying in a production site ;-) Greetings, Gitte Wange

RESPONSE.write
by Jure Koren 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, Zope users. I have a python script that pulls e-mail from a pop3 server and pushes it into an imap folder. Because this is a lenghty process, I would like the user to be sure nothing went wrong, so I display a list of messages being fetched, along with their sizes, in real time. I do this using calls to RESPONSE.write(). However, I've found out that it is impossible to use the dtml-var tag in any dtml method i call from this python script. For example, in dtml method fetch_header i call this: <dtml-var standard_html_header> And I call fetch_header from fetch python script like this: response.write(context.fetch_header(client=context, REQUEST=request)) If I remove the <dtml-var> and replace it with what the standard_html_header dtml method contains, it works. If there is a dtml-var tag, it breaks, and when it happens, the connection to the browser is closed immediately, and since using streaming mode by calling RESPONSE.write() does not allow raising exceptions, I don't know what is failing. There is no useful debugging information stored anywhere that I know of. No exceptions are raised, or if they are, dtml-try and try:... except: don't catch them. Is there a document describing the behaviour of zope using this RESPONSE.write() technique, with explanations of what parts of zope are safe to use in this mode, and when? Adding transactional awareness to filesystem operations
by Ian Bicking 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

I'm working on a CMS written in Zope, which uses static publishing. So we write files out to disk frequently. The transactional safety of Zope is nice (rolling back ZODB and database changes when an error happens). Unfortunately any disk operations we do don't get rolled back, causing inconsistencies. I figure I have to change our file-writing external methods so that there a commit/rollback, which isn't too hard. Having written these functions, how do I register them with Zope? How do I identify the separate, concurrent transactions? Thanks. -- Ian Bicking | ianb(a)colorstudy.com | http://blog.ianbicking.org

RE: [Zope] Queries about Zope
by Wilson, Derek 05 Nov '03

05 Nov '03

Well, if you have CMF installed, create a CMF site. Staging is kind of automatic. They submit documents, and the submitted documents can be reviewed. What more do you want than that? The version control is kind of built in with the 'undo' support... Look at ${portal_url}/undo_form in your CMF site. If you want submitted documents to first be published on a sort of "accessible only to logged in users" you can create a new workflow state called "staging", and put it in as a state before being published. Workflows are editable under "portal_workflow" of your CMF site. You might need to add a new workflow. Any 'web configurable' workflow should do. Thanks, Derek Wilson -----Original Message----- From: Adrien Driver [mailto:Adrien.Driver@infotech.monash.edu.au] Sent: Tuesday, November 04, 2003 6:06 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Queries about Zope Hi I've just started evaluating Zope a few weeks ago to replace our school's old web site.
