ZSyncer problem
by Marcel Maré 04 Nov '03

I could use some help setting up ZSyncer (0.5.0-pre10). This what I've done so far: I have two instances running of Zope running on my local Windows box, one on port 8080 and one on 9090. Admin user is identical in both. Installed ZSyncer product on both. Added a ZSyncer instance called 'mysync' in the root of both. In both instances I've set the properties like this: Title=empty Destinations= http://localhost:8080/mysync on the instance running on 9090 http://localhost:9090/mysync on the instance running on 8080 Log=off Override user=off Filter types=off Then I go to a folder called 'Experiments' on one instance, click on the sync tab expecting it to work, but no. I get this error: Fault <Fault -2: 'Unexpected Zope error value: NotFound - \\Experiments'> Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\devel\python\Plone\Zope\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Try.py", line 149, in render_try_except result = render_blocks(self.section, md) File "C:\devel\python\Plone\Zope\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Util.py", line 201, in eval return eval(code, d) File "", line 0, in ? Please keep the discussion on the mailing list... On Tue, Nov 04, 2003 at 05:34:43PM +0100, Kai Vermehr wrote: > I'm still sruggling ... You can do either of these: <td tal:content="item/absolute_url">123</td> OR <td tal:content="python:item.absolute_url()">123</td> If you have not already done so, you should read the Zope Book online chapters about Page Templates and Scripting. > also this did not work for scanning the subfolders ... > > >images = container.ZopeFind(container, obj_metatypes=['Image']) "this did not work" is not very clear. It works for me. The result is a list of tuples of the form (id, object) so maybe you are not handling the result correctly. -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com Look! Up in the sky! Pyhton: how get ObjectValues in Subfolders? (and their URL?) /kv
by Kai Vermehr 04 Nov '03

>From the Zope book I have this little script which returns a list of any images from the folder where it is called. return container.objectValues(['Image']) how can I modify it so it also searches for images inside Subfolders? and how would I ask for their URLs? if I explicitly write: return container.IMG.objectValues(['Image']) it searches in the subfolder "IMG" ... still it scans that folder only ... and I can't find out how to get the full URL of the images. thanks! RE: [Zope] Linux distributions for Zope Servers

I second the vote for SuSE. While I have never used it for Zope, it's a great distro. I fell in love with SuSE a long time ago, when my Tseng labs ET6000 PCI wasn't supported under Xf86, SuSE had written the driver. Now I see they still have their top notch coders, with the first O/S distro to run AMD64. Overall, they have been very good to me. Their documentation is excellent as well. SuSE even ships with Zope rpms. For some reasons I prefer to install my own Zope versions and I never had any problems doing so on SuSE. They have great mailinglists, a very responsive security team and I always update online (It's kind a cool zo update a Linux notebook via WLAN). SuSE supports 64-bit AMD and Intel, SMP and a lot of other cool things. Beside that it can be used on really old system too (I happen to still use my 486dx4-100). boolean properties 0/* -> 0/1
by wchr 04 Nov '03

hi! i´ve got code where i write the string "TRUE" in boolean properties (in a folder or zclass propertysheet) to set them true. now after an upgrade from 2.5.1 to 2.6.2 this doesn´t work anymore. if i write the string "TRUE" in a boolean property it becomes "1" in any case. so i´ll have to rewrite lots of code where i ask for "TRUE" (for example in zcatalog requests) so my two little questions would be: 1. am i right that this has been changed? 2. does anybody know when and why this has been changed in zope? thx in advance /wolfie

Recommendations for publishing large documents
by Rechenberg, Andrew 04 Nov '03

04 Nov '03

Good day everyone, We are going to be going live with a Zope/CMF/Plone site for our Intranet very soon and I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for publishing large documents and documents with embedded images. Some background about our organization: . Zope is running on a Windows 2000 Server . The majority of users and content publishers are running Windows 2000/XP . The most prevalent document application in the enterprise is Microsoft Word. . The majority of content publishers have very little knowledge of HTML . Users will want to publish things such as employee manuals, company newsletters, etc. My thoughts for large documents were to use Microsoft Word and to require the master document/sub-document model where each "chapter/section" would be a sub-document that could be saved as HTML. I know Word's HTML is sketchy at best. We also have access to Office 2003, which I believe can save documents as XML. Another idea would be to save the document as XML and use some third-party tool to convert the XML to well-structure XHTML and upload those documents separately, but that would make linking the documents together rather difficult for a non-technical user (IMO). I'm not sure of the appropriate approach for small or large documents with embedded images. Word documents with images saved as HTML have their images stored in separate folders - again, rather hard to publish these for a novice/non-technical user. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about this subject, or any URL's for documentation about how to accomplish these tasks? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Andy. -- Regards, Andrew Rechenberg Infrastructure Team, Sherman Financial Group

Zope REQUEST variable
by Ted holden 04 Nov '03

04 Nov '03

I pretty much have this application of mine working well enough for government work, which is all anybody around Washington D.C. really cares about. What I ended up doing to retain knowledge of what just happened on the previous screen (the situation in which I thought I might require objects) was to use something like referrer = REQUEST.environ.get('HTTP_REFERER') and then peel off the calling arguments from the last form with python string commands. This was possible to figure out due to the elegant manner in which the REQUEST variable is formatted as a table, and can be printed out and then read with a browser. I mean, everything just stands out. Is that something the Zope group invented or was that inherited from some previous work? Is that (the table representation of REQUEST) meant to work with some particular piece of software i.e. some particular IDE or debugger?

More Zope Zsql inconsitency
by Mark Evans 04 Nov '03

04 Nov '03

After further exploration I have found the following . Using a more explicit query: select distinct aliquot.sample_id, u_protein_sequence as protein, u_dna_sequence as dna from lims_sys.aliquot aliquot, lims_sys.test test, lims_sys.test_user test_user where test.aliquot_id = aliquot.aliquot_id and test.test_id = test_user.test_id and ( (u_protein_sequence = 'F' and u_dna_sequence ='F') or -- Line1 (u_protein_sequence = 'F' and u_dna_sequence ='T') or -- Line2 (u_protein_sequence = 'T' and u_dna_sequence ='F') or -- Line3 (u_protein_sequence is null and u_dna_sequence ='F') or -- Line4 (u_protein_sequence is null and u_dna_sequence ='T') or -- Line5 (u_protein_sequence = 'T' and u_dna_sequence is null) or -- Line6 (u_protein_sequence = 'F' and u_dna_sequence is null) or -- Line7 (u_protein_sequence is null and u_dna_sequence is null) or -- Line8 (u_protein_sequence = 'T' and u_dna_sequence ='T') -- Line9 ) and test.test_template_id = 4 and aliquot.status in ('P','C','V','A') There are only a very few rows in the table where u_dna_sequence is null. The format of the row that contains the null is always protein= T, DNA = null. If line 7 (which corresponds to this pattern) is commented out, then everything runs ok with no errors. If it is left in, then the query will run correctly the first time, but everytime after that, random dna values are set to None in the ZMI zsql test display. Since my DTML that formats the output sets calls None a "no", if something is really a "yes", this is a problem. Any ideas why the ZMI or zope is doing this? Is there known issues with handling null values? Thanks, Mark
