Z2.log grows and Gzip question
by Paolo Dina 08 Jul '03

08 Jul '03

So, two questions: 1) my Z2.log is growing continuously, and that would not be strictly a problem; but now it's 1.3Gb.. and i can expect him to grow more and more... My ambition is not to full entire disk space for the logs, but as i know, i can't avoid to keep them! The content of Z2.log is plain text, and i can suppose that using some sort of compression method probably might lead to an high rate compression of Z2.log. It would be great if Medusa could handle compressed Z2.log. Is there a way to accomplish this? 2) In Zope v. >= 2.6.0 has been implemented this nice feature: "Gzip content compression when serving pages" (http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.6.0/announce) It's supposed that gzip feature is enabled by default; well, how to obtain statistic about compression?(i.e. size of html page after compression, maybe the ratio and so on...) With mod_gzip for Apache there was the possibility to specify something like: LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b mod_gzip: %{mod_gzip_result}n In:%{mod_gzip_input_size}n Out:%{mod_gzip_output_size}n:%{mod_gzip_compression_ratio}npct." common_with_mod_gzip_info2 and CustomLog /usr/local/apache/logs/access.log common_with_mod_gzip_info2 Does Medusa allow something similar? Thanks all, Paolo Dina

Re: 2.3.2 - external method re module

> I have to change all stx links in a dtml doc to html which is not done > for any reason. It's an old zope (2.3.2) :( python is 1.5.2 > I tried with string.find, but i get a "string object has no atribute > 'find'" error. If I'm not wrong, in python 1.5.2 "myString.find('foo')" is not possible (somebody told me this once, but I've not tested). You have to import "find" from the "string" module and then do find(myString,'foo') > So i guesses i have to use an External Method where i can use re. I haven't used re, so I can't help you here. Re: [Zope] How many hits can zope handle?
by Wayne Connolly 08 Jul '03

08 Jul '03

Thanks for the quick response Chris. My first comment is-My gawd: our estimates produced similar number though in a more primative fashion. Our estimate is a 6 month projection based upon conservitive estimates, if it flops it flops but we have divided our company up in such a fasion that it wont impact our other products and our income(hopefully: but not likely straight away with the money thing :-(. Akamai have provided a quote per gig of traffic that will severly reduce our overheads to a reasonable level and of course the server farm(9600 CDN). We are just trying to see if we can 'plug' zope into it because we have had such good luck/fun with it in the past. Unfortunately our server hit rate will be 100% with zero cache as each hit auotatically submits info to the database. No web pages are called. We will probly only recieve about 10 ~ 15 million hits a month for web page download(max). All sounds like doom and gloom but with slow uptake (6months) we should be able to include zope in the loop somewhere. It would be a shame not to... How can a method know if it was acquired?
by Itai Tavor 08 Jul '03

08 Jul '03

Hi, I got a folderish python product with the following method: def SKU(self): """ Return our SKU for the catalog """ return self.sku The problem is that when objects contained in instances of this product are cataloged, they acquire the SKU method, so they also get the sku property. That is bad. So what I need is something like this: def SKU(self): """ Return our SKU for the catalog """ if (I was acquired): return None else: return self.sku But I can't figure out how to do that. Help? How many hits can zope handle?
by Wayne Connolly 08 Jul '03

Can Zope handle 10 billion plus hits a day? while at the same time cramming info from these hits into a database(berkley db)? Ive got zope running on a mainframe and we are slowly approaching a point where one of our sites will be achieving such hits(less that 0.1kb per hit) ... Im just curioso....
