Portal/Portlets Integration and SSL
by John Wubbel 05 Jul '03

I have built a portal using Jetspeed. It is configured on a Linux platform with Apache, Tomcat running behind the Apache and ZServer for the Zope. The Apache has been configured to be secure, has its own CA with the mod_jk connector between Apache and Tomcat. The portal of course has portlets of various web services and applications. A few portlets support the presentation of content coming from Zope. We do this using an IFrame portlet with a short piece of Java code on the server side to service the portlet. So, when the portlet comes up, it might contain a couple of hyper-links for the user to click on that will display a document within the portlet frame. Thus, the embedded links for the portlet will have a http://www.xyz.net:8000/... pointing to the location of the document. This all works fine, however now I have 1 or 2 documents that are confidential and must be handled via https://... for a particular portlet. I have been experimenting without much success. The browser of course will indicate that not all components on the page are secure because of the fact that the embedded links in the page have http in them. As soon as I make the change to the https protocol, the links will not resolve. Do I have to somehow make the ZServer also SSL compliant in some manner in order for it to figure out what https means. Any help or comments would be very much appreciated. TIA. John Wubbel John Wubbel Consultancy

Re: [Zope] Where Is This Problem? Apache? Zope? SiteRoot??

I didn't write any of this myself, so I'm not quite sure about all this and will have my programmer look into it, but what I don't get is... My programmer is able to see these pages. My client and I cannot. Now, we have this same shopping cart installed on another client's site and it works just fine. We tried a number of things and ended up renaming folder and changing SiteRoots such that a working URL pointed to the problem site and viola! the site worked fine. So it appeared there was a problem in the proxy. Now, I'd done something different with this proxying: I'd pointed two URLs to the same SiteRoot, so I ripped one of them out of my httpd.conf file, rebooted Apache, reinstalled SiteRoot, and STILL it doesn't work. But it works fine with any other URL. What gives? In other words, why does it throw errors for some users and not for others? beno

webdav editing of properties (was [Zope] Hook for WebDAV list?)

Hi Joel (and zope list), a long time ago, you posted this message to the zope list. You didn't appear to get an answer, but I was wondering if you figured out the answer yourself. I assume you 'can affect this for FTP access' by over-riding the manage_FTPlist() method. Is that right? Maybe I should add that the reason I'm trying to do this is so that I can make object properties editable through webdav (and FTP I suppose). I envisage providing each property as an extra 'file' in the directory listing, probably prepending (if that's a word) some characters to the property id to signify that it is actually a property. Is this a mugs game? Is there a better way? cheers, tim

building product from the doc
by Aurélien Campéas 04 Jul '03

04 Jul '03

Hello happy Zopers, I'm currently trying to build a small & simple product, following (closely) advice from http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZDG/current/Products.stx The doc is clear and well done, but now I'm stuck on this : when I try to add some 'Candidat' (the meta_type of the product), I get from the ZMI a Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: TypeError Error Value: addForm() takes no arguments (1 given) etc... In the doc example, addForm is really defined with no argument, and I still don't see what knid of arg that ought to be. I'm still investigating. Grepping around current existing products doesn't help much since no installed product shows this very pattern (of an addForm function defined as in the zope doc). Thanks for your patience, Aurélien.

AttributeError __error_log__
by Thomas Güttler 04 Jul '03

04 Jul '03

Hi, I have a class which should behave like a simple folder. It uses a btree to store the values. I want to access it from a url like this: http://localhost:8080/myproduct/foo/myfolder/item1 If I try to access item1 I get the the folowing error: Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 150, in publish_module Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 114, in publish Module Zope, line 134, in zpublisher_exception_hook AttributeError: __error_log__ I tried to inherit from Explicit, Implicit or SimpleItem and even Zope2.6.2b3 This was discussed already but with no good solution: http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2002-December/127511.html Now I use BTreeFolder2, but I would like to avoid it, since I don't need most of it. Has somone a hint? thomas

WebDAV Metadata
by Holger Schmidt 04 Jul '03

04 Jul '03

Hi, --- Using WebDAV you are able to attach Metadata to a document by calling PROPPATCH and you can get this Metadata by calling PROPFIND ... Zope saves these Properties in the ZODB. Properties are handled by OFS.PropertyManager.PropertyManager and for the Presentation OFS.PropertySheets.PropertySheet is used ... --- I think it should be possible to "redirect" this Metadata, so a PROPPATCH would save the Metadata to 'MY' MySQL-DB and a PROPFIND would get it from 'MY' MySQL-DB ... Has anybody ever done something like this before? Any ideas how to manage this (in a product ...)? -- Thanks, Holger
