Likely a RedHat 9 threads issue; search the archives of this list in the past 2 months; there should be a wealth of info, I think including a fix... problem with zfill
by Adam Szpakowski 08 Jun '03

08 Jun '03

Hi, I've strange problem with using zfill in python scripts in Zope. My script is simple: -------------- import string outa = str1.zfill(6) return outa -------------- str1 is a parameter given by interface. Running the script gives me: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: 'str' object has no attribute 'zfill' I understand the meaning of the error but why it's happening? Others functions like: outa = str1.upper() works great. Zope is in version 2.6.1 and Python in 2.2.1. Zope Newbie having performance problems with v 2.6.1 needs a little advice...
by Dominic Caffey 08 Jun '03

08 Jun '03

Dear Zope Community, A little advice on the following problem would be appreciated: I recently downloaded v 2.6.1 as Zope-2.6.1-linux2-x86.tgz from www.zope.org and installed in in /usr/local/Zope on RedHat 9.0 running on a Pentium Pro 180 MHz w/128Mb ram. RHL-9 is running fine but I can't say the same for Zope. The static index page from the webserver comes up fine and the ftp server works like a champ but when I try to get into the management console after successfully authenticating the console never fully comes up or comes up but with a lot of broken images and I can't get to anywhere below the root level and/or the webserver never completes the request to the browser I'm hitting the server from. I've tried this both on the same machine that Zope is running on and from other machines in my LAN and I always get the same behavior. I've checked the log files: /usr/local/Zope/zope_event_log.log and /usr/local/Zope/var/Z2.log for complaints from Zope but there are none; the logs indicate that Zope is happy but it's not behaving as if it is. I tried adding the "-t" and "-n" flags to the start script to get Zope to demand more resources from the system but still no change. Here's what the line from the script currently looks like: "exec /usr/local/Zope/bin/python $cwd/z2.py -u zope -w 192.168.123.101:8080 -f 192.168.123.101:8021 -t 16 -i 30". Running "top" on the Zope host while the request is trying to complete shows that the cpu is 94% idle. I'm a little low on disk right now per "df -k" output of [root@den Zope]# df -k Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/hda3 2793952 2426412 225616 92% / /dev/hda2 97602 9174 83388 10% /boot none 63028 0 63028 0% /dev/shm but I kind of doubt this is my problem because the rest of the system is running so well. I've also looked in /var/log/messages and have not found any problems. /usr/local/Zope/var is also owned by root and is wide open per: drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4096 Jun 7 10:31 var. I also installed Zope 2.5.? on a 400MHz Celeron w/64Mb running Debian Woody Linux that I've kept up to date via network apt-get. Zope on this box runs like a champ. Deb-Conf did the whole setup; I never had to do anything. I'm inclined to believe that I'm dealing with some sort of a tuning issue but I am a Zope "newbie" and am therefore appealing to those more knowledgeable than myself. I've been trying to use the "Zope Bible" by Bernstein & Robertson for guidance and I've sifted thru the Zope archives but haven't been able to find anything which addresses my issues. Any help/guidance on the problems mentioned above would be greatly appreciated. can't seem to get zope working on RedHat Linux 9
by Ted Nienstedt 08 Jun '03

08 Jun '03

Have Zope installed and started on RedHat Linux 9. Attempts to browse to http://localhost:8080/manage, from local machine, or http:// <http://%3cip-address%3e/manage> <ip-address>/manage, from a remote machine, hang and/or fail after timing out. HTTP Get entries do appear in the var/Z2.log. Are others experience trouble with zope on RedHat Linux 9? Has anyone overcome trouble with zope of RedHat Lilnux 9? Thanks, Ted

Reset admin password...?
by Guillaume Dargaud 08 Jun '03

08 Jun '03

Hello all, total newbie here... I downloaded and installed Zope about a month ago but only tonight got around to start playing with it. When I try to get the admin page (http://localhost:8080/manage) I get prompted for a username/password and everything I tried failed. RTFM tells me that the installation should have given me a username/password but I don't remember anything like that. More RTFM tells me to use zpasswd.py to reset the password in the access file. Problem is there is no 'access' file anywhere, and creating one in the zope dir doesn't do anything... Needless to say, I didn't get very far with Zope yet. Setup: Win2k, Zope, Python, Cygwin, Apache... All very recent install. -- Guillaume Dargaud Colorado State University http://www.gdargaud.net/ "Theft from a single author is plagiarism — from three or more it is research."

Can't debug Zope using ZPublisher
by Green, Gregory P 07 Jun '03

07 Jun '03

I am trying to debug some Zope code. I have read the developers manual and thought I would try it using ZPublisher. But I can't get it to work. I am using Zope 2.6.1 on Windows. I start python in a shell, import Zope, ZPublisher and then try to run a url: ZPublisher.Zope('/junk'), this gives me back an error page that says resource not found ..... 'http://localhost/Zope/junk'. I have a dtml document in the root directory of my zope installation called 'junk'. I have also tried '/Examples' which also doesn't return anything. Any ideas? Help with Acquisition (long)
by Greg & Janet LINDSTROM 07 Jun '03

07 Jun '03

I'm building an application dealing with multiple Departments, each with multiple members. Here's a short diagram of the folders in question Department (department level information and forms) +--Members (department Roster) +--Individual (individual level information and forms) +--Status (tracks status information and history) The Members index_html (dtml_method) displays all of the active members (stored in a mySQL database), displaying each member as a link as follows ("Get" is a Z_SQLMethod) <ul> <dtml-in Get> <li><a href = "myserver/Individual?member_number=&dtml-member_number;>&dtml-name;</a> </dtml-in> </ul> This calls the Individual/index_html (a dtml_method), passing it member_number as expected. The Individual folder has a link allowing the user to add a status value for the individual <a href="myserver/Memebrs/Individual/Status/AddForm/memno=&dtml-memno;;">Add Status</a><br> This calls a dtml_document which renders a form to add a status for the individual. This form calls Status/Add (a dtml method) which in turn calls AddSQL (an Z_SQLMethod) to post the data to the database. <dtml-var my_header> <dtml-call "AddSQL()"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('Status')> <dtml-call my_footer> This post the data to my Status table, but fails on th redirect. The problem I'm encountring is the redirect fails because the Status/index_html cannot find member_number. I thought that member_number would be in the Individual namespace, but it's nowhere to be found. Since the Individual folder will eventually have a lot of sub-folders (Addresses, Phones, Equipment, etc.) I would really like to use Acquisition rather than passing member_number explicitly. I've re-read the sections in "The Zope Bible" (pp 72+), "Web Application Construction Kit" (pp 82+), and "The Zope Book" (multiple places), but I guess I just don't get it. How and Where do I set the member_number so that all of the sub-folders can "see" (acquire) it? Thanks for your time and help. Greg Lindstrom Vilonia, Arkansas

Security doubt
by Ricardo Núñez 07 Jun '03

07 Jun '03

Hi, How could I avoid sending a cleartext password through the net when I use a http://....../manage? How and where should I configure what? I hope it'd be possible... I'm a RedHat 7.3, Apache 1.3., Zope FastCGI computer manager. Other things: - Muuultiple apache virtual hosts - We have a few https sites. - Zope is recently installed, but we have decided to use it very seriously. - People upload their files with FTP... A big security hole. - With Zope we'd like to authenticate with a LDAP authentication server with passwords in the old crypt encryption. OK, I already know that there are Zope products to do the "LDAP part", that's not an issue. I notice that the "natural way" to manage Zope sites is through '.../manage' interface. I agree that it lets me use any computer all over the world and that's perfect for me, but.... I have doubt with sending cleartext passwords like FTP does. Saludos, Ing. slicing ZTUtils.Batch
by Jordan Baker 06 Jun '03

Hi I'm writing some somewhat convoluted ZPT that should work tho, <tr tal:repeat="row python:range(2)"> <td align="center" tal:repeat="plate python:plates[row * 2:(row * 2) + 2]"> FORMAT CONTENT </td> </tr> Zope is giving me an error complaining about a missing __getslice__ I was thinking about writing one but then I found out that __getslice__ is deprecated in newer versions of Python. What's the deal here?? TIA, Jordan Baker Contradix Corporation "Holistic IT Solutions"
