Why can't I get to Root Folder?
by Simon Forster 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

Playing with Zope, I've managed to break it. When I try to go to the Root Folder I see: Error Type: POSKeyError Error Value: 00000000000009e This was while playing with versions. 1) Any idea what I may have done to cause this? 2) How can I back out from this (the undo panel is letting me down here)? I guess I may be re-installing! Export hooks?
by Lennart Regebro 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

I have an object which I would like to make changes to before exporting. Is this somehow possible? I notice both __setstate__ and manage_afterAdd are called duing import, but I can't find anything during *export*... The reason for this is simply that I want to include some data stored separately on export. Any ideas on how to do this?

how to get session id with a DTML expression?
by Paul Duriot 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

I would like to get the session ID of the user once he is logged from a DTML Document. I know for example, that I can do : <dtml-var expr="_.SecurityGetUser().getUserName()"> to retrieve the name of current User and to display it. Is there anything in order to do the same for retrieving ID Session??? Thanks a lot!

MimeWriter and encode64 with zope file objs
by drew nichols 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

I want to attach zope file objects (CMF Portal File) to a multipart email like this: for fileId in attachments: file = getattr(self, fileId) part = writer.nextpart() #part.addheader('Content-Transfer-Encoding', 'none') part.addheader('Content-Transfer-Encoding', 'base64') body = part.startbody ( file.getContentType() + '; name=' + file.id() ) #body.write(str(file)) base64.encode (file, body) This works fine with no encoding and text data, but binary data needs encoding. encode64 will not encode as the zope file has no read() method. Should i write my own wrapper class, or is there a simpler way?? TIA

Users question
by Tiller, Michael (M.M.) 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

I'm hoping to setup a Zope (Plone) site on our corporate intranet. We have an existing system by which we validate users based on a corporate user database. The way things usually work is that the web servers themselves make sure that users are validated before they can access content. In summary, the web servers act as a gate keeper. There are two issues here. The first is authentication. I'm not that concerned about the authentication at the moment. I'm going to assume, for the moment, that Zope will operate behind one of these web servers. The other issue is handling the users once they are authenticated. I'd like to know if something like the following scenario is possible: 1) The web server gets a request for something on my site. 2) The web server first requests authentication (the Zope site hasn't even been accessed at this point). 3) Authentication is successful and the request is passed on to my Zope site (e.g. as a CGI request) At this point, Zope can find out who the user is (i.e. their identification/username) since it is encoded in a cookie (I guess). Is it possible to setup a user policy as follows: Any one who has successfully passed the authentication stage is treated as an anonymous user ...unless... Their username (as conveyed by the web server authentication process) matches a valid user on the Zope system in which case Zope treats them as that user. The key elements to making this seamless are: 1) Once authenticated, the user is not prompted (by the Zope site) for their username or password. 2) If a user wants to "join" the Zope site, they shouldn't have to supply a password for authentication. It should be sufficient that they have already been authenticated. Just asking to join should make them a Zope user. Now, I'm wondering what are the essential elements of implementing such a scheme? I'm relatively new to Zope so please speak slowly and feel free to include pedantic details. :-) Thanks. -- Mike

Re: [Zope] How do I utilize manage_edit in a stand alone form?
by grissom＠qwickconnect.net 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

J, Thanks for the response. What I was trying to do was create a stand alone form to edit a DTML document. I am just about to wrap up an extranet that Administrative assistants use to mange group of files and had only one file that needed to be edited and I don;t want them to have access to ZMI. What isn't working is that once I make change to the text displayed in the text area box and hit submit that nothing is refreshed with the old data stored in the file and it is not redirected. I set up the DTML method that way because it was something I had done with a different method and thought I could get away with in again. I am looking into trace back now. Regards, Rob

Virtual Host Monster
by Fernando Correia Martins 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

I've setup a virtual host in Apache and a VHM in Zope according to the instructions at http://www.zope.org/Members/regebro/Zope_and_Apache However, when I request ckt.internal.epo.org, I get the Apache welcome page rather than my Zope page (localhost:8080/CKT/) This is what I added to httpd.conf <VirtualHost *> ServerName ckt.internal.epo.org RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://127.0.0.1:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/ckt.internal.epo.o rg:80/CKT/VirtualHostRoot/$1 [L,P] ProxyVia on </VirtualHost> After reloading, running httpd -S gives me: *:80 is a NameVirtualHost default server ckt.internal.epo.org (/etc/httpd/httpd.conf:1358) port 80 namevhost ckt.internal.epo.org (/etc/httpd/httpd.conf:1358) The rewrite and proxy modules are (I believe) being loaded dynamicaly. Apache 1.3.27 on Suse 8.2. VHM id is VHost without any mapping. I've also restarted Zope and did httpd reload. It seems like the Apache VirtualHost is not being "activated" or the RewriteRule is being ignored?? Can you see a problem with my configuration or at least help me better identify the problem? Regards, Fernando

Zope Book -> Chap 3 -> Interest Rate Example
by Simon Forster 05 Jun '03

05 Jun '03

Yesterday I managed to instal Python and Zope. Today I'm learning how to use Zope. I'm not 100% sure I understand the Zope model - but then I'm only on chapter 3 and I'm sure many of my questions will be answered later in the book. However, the interest rate example given in the book returns an error to me: "Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: KeyError Error Value: years" This appears to be quite a simple error where the form value "years" is not being seen by Zope. This error is thrown the first time "years" is referenced. That is: <span tal:content="years">2</span> This code appears in a Page Template. If I cut this code out, the page errors at the next form value (principal). Obviously I'm not "capturing" the form values submitted by the html form. However, The "Page Template" object doesn't give you a method to explicitly capture these form elements so I assume that this happens automagically. An incorrect assumption? Can anyone point me to where I'm going wrong?
