changing the perceived location of a keyword

bear with me, this may be a difficult one. i have a page template which pulls information from other page templates -- which i don't want to be part of the official contents. however, they contain text, and that text is indexed. when a user searches a keyword on one of those constituent pages, ZCatalog points her to the consituent document. Export file attachment to actual filesystem

Hello, I've tried numerous ways to try to export a file attachment to a temp directory in the actual filesystem, but have failed to do so. Does anyone know a way to do this? I can export the file to the zope file system, but I would like to export it to an actual directory outside of zope (e.g. /home/user/files/). Even if you could edit it while Zope is running, it would not be useful, because it is only invoked when Zope is started. You would have to restart Zope to use the changed file. Cheers, Tom P

The choice of POST vs GET is not up to Zope per se. It is up to the User Agent, which in practice means it is up to the design of the web page itself. There is no Zope "default". If you want to redirect to a new page and pass some information to the redirected page while you do so, you would give the information to the page template via (typically) REQUEST variables (which you can set during Zope processing) - or other Zope variables - so that the DTML or ZPT that builds the redirected page can include the data into the page. Sometimes the data ends up populating visible or hidden fields in a form, sometimes you decide to apply it in other ways. At this level, neither GET nor POST is involved, since it would happen before the page is built and sent back to the browser. If this is not helpful enough, then give us a few (simplified and clear) scenarios tha trouble you, and maybe we can help clarify and simplify. Cheers, Tom P

WARNING: Packing is dangerous!!! (zope <= 2.6.1)

Sorry for the caps in the subject, but it seems this bug is not nearly well publicized enough.* People keep stumbling onto this bug on their own and writing to the list about it. In Zope 2.6.1, 2.6.0, and probably 2.5.x at least: Packing a FileStorage (Data.fs) can lead to some loss of data. http://collector.zope.org/Zope/875 In addition, the "fsrecover.py" script that ships with Zope 2.6.1 is broken - it (often? always?) produces a nearly-empty Data.fs. If you need it, use fsrecover.py from CVS or from Zope 2.6.0. Considering how much of the existing documentation recommends frequent packing to maintain a healthy Data.fs, I think it would be advisable for Zope corp. to take steps to alert users to this very serious problem. Irrecoverable data loss is the kind of thing that ruins software reputation. Maybe a news item on zope.org? In addition, I think it's a critical enough problem that when a solution is found, there should be published hotfixes for 2.6.1 and 2.6.0 at least. -- Paul Winkler home: http://www.slinkp.com "Muppet Labs, where the future is made - today!"

I have two DTML methods and a one ZSQL method in a folder. I am apparently misunderstanding how to access the ZSQL method. The top-level DTML method contains references in the following form: <dtml-var expr="show_detail(machine='D340')"> The show_detail DTML method exists to wrap the ZSQL method and convert to a human readable form. It currently looks like this: <dtml-in expr="get_sum_sql(_)"> <dtml-var subtotal null="0"> <dtml-else> 0 </dtml-in> The ZSQL method accepts a single parameter called 'machine'. For each parameter, it will produce a single result. This makes sense to me. Unhappily, it does not work. It produces the following error: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'get_sum_sql' is not defined I'm sure I'm missing the obvious here...

ZCatalog to Search MySQL field?

All, I am just getting my feet under me with Zope and trying to figure out how to get the following functionality. I have a MySQL table with a notes field that stores, as you might expect, notes about a record. I need to get a reasonably functional search capability for this field (boolean AND and NOT at least) that returns the serialnumber field of the record it is attached to. Upgrading to the latest version of MySQL isn't optimal. The Text Index capabilities of the ZCatalog object seem to be perfect for my needs, but I can't figure out how I would implement the ZCatalog object to search the notes field through my ZSQL object. I could write a script to get the functionality I want, but don't want to reinvent the wheel and would also like to grok how the ZCatalog works anyway. Is this doable and can someone either tell me how to do it or point me to documentation that would be readable by a capable novice? Thank you for your time. John P. Withers

moving zope site

Hi zopers, Here is my situation, I have a hosted zope web site, w/ VHM. Two Domain names www.old.com and www.new.com point to the same folder myWebSite I had to change my domain name. Questions are : - how can i detect which domain name is asked (the old one or the new one) - in case the old DN is asked I want to RESPONSE a redirect to the new DN and set a (is it 303) message for robots to reindex (moved definitely) my site Thank you

passing information to a rendered ZPT from python
