Accessing httplib from a Zope Python script

Hi, I'm a Zope newbie who's more familiar with C# than Python. I've encountered an obstacle and am unable to find what's wrong with my approach. In order to solve the problem, I have searched this group's archive as well as other resources on the web. Some posts earlier this month were related to the problem but didn't address it exactly. I'm trying to implement support for PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN). IPN sends a POST to a URL on our Zope server. I decided to implement a Python script to handle the POST. The first task of the script is to send a POST back to PayPal in order to verify the transaction originated from PayPal. To do that, I learned that I could use the features in the httplib module. However, if I have a crappy test script like the following: import httplib result = httplib.HTTP("http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr") return result Then I receive the following error when posting to the page: Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access HTTP in this context In my search for help, I learned that Zope allows Script objects to access a subset of the Python modules, so I assumed that was the reason for the error. In my search for help, I happened upon some articles about using External methods to access modules. So I put the "result = httplib..." line into function verifyPayPal, module ipnSupport.py within the Zope\Extensions subfolder. I then added the extension to the same folder containing the Python script. The extension has ID ipnSupport, referening the specified script and function. When I run the following script... result = verifyPayPal return result The following error is returned: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'verifyPayPal' is not defined The same error occurs if I call ipnSupport instead of verifyPayPal. If I try to import module ipnSupport then the following error is returned: Error Type: ImportError Error Value: import of "ipnSupport" is unauthorized So I guess my questions are: 1. Why can I not import httplib into a Zope Python script object? 2. Is an external method only callable from a DTML object? If it can be called from a script object, how do I do that? Launching external apps to process uploads to LocalFS, possible?

I'm setting up a document repository that allows people to upload files (Using Zope) to a LocalFS directory. Those files then become visible through the Zope management interface. Is there any Zope friendly way to launch external Linux apps to process them once they have been uploaded? I'd like to translate .dvi and Word .doc files into PDF using wvWare and dvipdfm. I suppose I could use a cron job and a shell script to do the conversion at regular intervals, but I'd rather do it immediately. I guess what I am asking is if Zope's Python can be told to launch apps on the hosting machine.. But that seems like it would be a major security hole, so I understand if its not possible.. -Thank you, Chris

I've installed cmf and plone. plone renders structure docs correct? I created a folder outside my plone site, and am playing with different objects -- but I don't see that I can add a structure document object. Its not available from the pulldown. so, does plone have its on method form rendering structure text docs, and if so, will I mess it up if I add structured text as a new product? Setting Default Roles/Permissions for product

How do I set the default roles of for a Python product's permissions (keep in mind I have added 3 new roles) programmatically inside the product code? In my product classes, I use ClassSecurityInfo and I do make sure to InitializeClass after declaring all my security settings. In my security declarations, I include multiple lines similar to : security.setPermissionDefault('Add records', ('Custodian')) My permissions are shown on the main security tab. However, some of the permissions pick up the default roles, some do not, and others have NO roles defines. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!

Cannot add any ZClass

Hi, I tried to add a ZClass to my Zope-Install, but I get this everytime I click the add Button: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: title This happens regardless of what is typed in the title-field. All the other fields seem correct to me: id: MitteilungClass title: (should be) Class for News metatype: Mitteilung derived from OFS:File and both checkboxes are on. Is this a bug in my Zope (2.6.1) ? Andreas -- You will live a long, healthy, happy life and make bags of money.

Security-wise, just hard-code the behavior into product code, perhaps hack LocalFS to meet your needs? I think this might be what you want, if you want the applications doing the work to detach from Zope (otherwise use os.system() ). publishing a double-underscore method?

Hi all, I'm working on a product where I want to publish the results of a custom __getattr__ method. I realize overriding __getattr__ isn't generally recommended, but it fits my specific requirements for this product. The problem I'm having is that even very trivial returns from __getattr__ kick out the "empty or missing docstring" error. A trivial example that doesn't work: ---------- security.declarePublic('__getattr__') def __getattr__(self, name): """ I have a docstring, not that it seems to matter """ if name == 'test': return 'this is a test' else: raise AttributeError, name ---------- Here's what I actually want to do: ---------- def __getattr__(self, name): if name in self.some_mapping.keys(): return self.some_method(name).__of__(self) else: raise AttributeError, name ---------- Playing with this a bit, it appears that anything I attempt to return from __getattr__ is checked for publishability **after** the return value has been computed. Since double-underscore methods are not typically published, I'm not surprised that I'm having trouble. It seems there should be some directive that explicitly permits method publication in such cases. Is there such a thing? Thanks in advance. I'm using Zope 2.6.1 on Gentoo, if it matters. Dylan

Zope's ZCatalog uses indexes with the names of the attributes or accessor methods that get your field values. If you have an index called 'manager' that is a FieldIndex, you can search that for an exact value, and nothing else will get searched. This, of course, assumes you write templates and scripts to query the catalog for the right index.
