ZPT vs DTML problems

Is there something similar to tal:replace that applies any markup in the object you are replacing the tag with? Example: -index_html- <html> <body> <span tal:replace="container/content"></span> </body </html> -content- <h1>Hello World</h1> produces this when I view: <h1>Hello World </h1>

SOLUTION: [Zope] import error - No module named iclass
by Gregory R. Warnes 04 Apr '03

04 Apr '03

I recently encountered the 'No module named iclass" problem when upgrading from Zope 2.5 to 2.6l, and discovered a nice, simple solution: 1) Export the troubled product as an XML file. (This worked for me in Zope 2.6 though Zope 2.6 woudn't otherwise touch it. You can, of course, downgrade, then export if it doesn't work under 2.6 for you.) 2) Load the XML export file into your favorite editor (I used xemacs), and search for the string "iclass". It will be found in a section that starts something like: <object> <klass> <global id="10712.92" name="Interface" module="Interface.iclass"/> </klass> 3) Delete the enclosting <object>...</object> section. 4) In the ZMI remove the troubled project, then import it from the modified file. For me, this process worked perfectly. -Greg

The big difference is with pbind you bind a process to a CPU, but other stuff can and will run on the CPU. If you use processor set's you can exclude all other processes from running on the CPU, other than those processes that have been assigned to the set. Processor set's have really replaced pbind. You would only use pbind if you want to force processor affinity and limit the task to a single CPU, but let other tasks use the cpu. This is only exerpt by me. I suggest you look at the whole thing so that nothing will be out of context. I wish I could get hold of this person, but the email to timhoffman(a)cams.wa.gov.au has bounced. I gather he must have moved on. Regards, Tena Sakai

Cautionary tale -- OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
by John Ziniti 04 Apr '03

04 Apr '03

I would occasionally get these errors when trying to do things with certain Products I had written for our website. I had attributed it to Zope/ZEO weirdness and would usually just restart the server in frustration. Recently I had the opportunity to look into one of these incidences in more detail and found that the line it was choking on was a os.getcwd() It then dawned on me that we do a lot of "os.chdir()" in our Products to make sure we are in a directory we can write in. We also have at least one Product that deletes it's working directory after it is done. I imagined a situation where a Zope thread was os.chdir()ed into a working diretcory, then the directory was deleted, leaving the Zope thread *nowhere*. The next time os.getcwd() was called, it raised the above OSError ... The morals of the story: 1) if you use os.chdir in your Products, make sure you os.chdir() *back* when you are done. 2) If you use os.getcwd() in your Products, count on the fact that someone else's Product did not follow #1 by catching OSError and picking a decent cwd. I use the following <code> try: cwd = os.getcwd() except OSError: cwd = os.environ.get('INSTANCE_HOME', '/tmp') </code> Hope this helps someone sometime, John Ziniti

Re: [Zope] New permissions
by Michael Havard 04 Apr '03

04 Apr '03

My confusion comes from how some permissions are grouped. For instance if I want an author to be able to add new folders I can't just give them add folders permission I have to give them add folder and manage properties. The problem is that manage properties enables access to other actions that are outside the scope of an author i.e. changing user roles within folders and managing syndication. Is there another way to allow a user to add a folder without needing to give them manage properties permissions. It would be nice to have a document listing the permissions and EXACTLY what they do and how they interrelate if only just for the base ZOPE and CMF products. >From: Dylan Reinhardt <zope(a)dylanreinhardt.com> >Reply-To: zope(a)dylanreinhardt.com >To: Michael Havard <nhavar(a)hotmail.com> >CC: zope(a)zope.org >Subject: Re: [Zope] New permissions >Date: 04 Apr 2003 08:51:48 -0800 > >On Fri, 2003-04-04 at 07:41, Michael Havard wrote: > > I can't seem to find an example of adding new/custom permissions to a >Zope > > site. New permissions
by Michael Havard 04 Apr '03

04 Apr '03

I can't seem to find an example of adding new/custom permissions to a Zope site. Maybe there's another way. I currently have a site with three types of users Author Author2 Editor Each role has specific things that they should be able to do. The problem I'm running into is that some permissions are lumped into categories that don't make sense for my users. For example: The author role should be able to create new content in any folder they should be limited in what content they can create. Authors should not be allowed to create news, new folders, topics, or events. Author2 can only create ONE type of document. Editors can create all types of documents. The problem I've run into is that Authors need to be able to create folders only under their home directories. Adding the "add folder" permission and the "manage properties" permission under the owner role allows this to happen. Unfortunately by adding the manage properties it also gives them access to syndication and local roles, which I do not want them to have. How do I rectify this or create new permissions that more closely match what I need to do. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. But if I point my browser to Zope, I get nothig. And If I stop it, the following appears: Stopping Zope... done (Zope was not running). [removed stale z2 pidfile (pid 13731)] What's the problem? RE: [Zope] Zope performance documentation
by Meilicke, Scott 04 Apr '03

I found it true on Linux as well. It wasn't the load for me - my site is very lightly used, but when I put Apache in front of my debian server, my zope uptime now runs similar to my server uptime. Prior to Apache zope would crash every couple of days. I attributed that to malformed or not nice HTTP requests - no data to support that other than code red entries in my logs. Scott -----Original Message----- From: Jaroslav Lukesh [mailto:lukesh@seznam.cz] Sent: Friday, April 04, 2003 5:59 AM To: Gilles; zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope performance documentation : Odesílatel: Gilles <gilles.lavaux(a)esrin.esa.it> : > alone (..., no Apache)? : No: don't do this, use Apache in from of zope, or your system will halt very : often; don't ask me why... Hi, it is true but only under Win32, or not? Under Linux I was make very heavy load tests, without no problem after changing network card (eepro100 was replaced by 3c900B) - old netcard (intel) totally crashes my Linux server. Under winNT2k I was able to shutoff or froze Zope within 1-3 minutes.
