modifying a url's query string

Hi, I'm wondering if there is a good way to modify the query string of a get request to change a single variable. For example, let's say my dtml method is accessed like this: http://myzope/MyFolder/method?var1=foo&var2=bar now I want one of the links on the page to load the same page, only with a different value for var2. I could use something like <dtml-var absolute_url>?var1=&dtml-var1;&var2=newvalue but that seems cumbersome the longer the list of variables gets. My first thought is to find some way to get the query string and make a function that will convert it to and from a dictionary, allowing me to change specific keys for new urls like full_url_with_query({'var1':'newvalue'}) but it seems that the only source of variable info is the (quite large) REQUEST object. Is there any way to pull only the query string variables out of the request, or even better, a function that does what my imaginary "full_url_with_query" function wants to do? If the online documentation is not quite enough I would recommend the Zope Bible. The chapters on building zope products are very good. I have just finished creating the AddressBook example in the book but instead of using DTML I used ZPT. I also incorporated a style sheet. It was an interesting exercise. Unfortunately I could not get the security model explained in the book to work right. This is my first attempt at creating a product and if anyone would care to look over this code and give any feedback I would be greatful. ZPatterns for dummies?

Hi, I've read the ad hoc chapters in the "Zope Web Application Development and Content Management" book, but I still don't understand what ZPatterns are used for. Could someone explain its goal in simple-to-understand terms so I get a better handle? :-) Thx Fred.

ZopeTree tree-expansion cookies: question

Hi Philipp I've just start using your ZopeTree product (with a lot of gratification, I might add), and I've got a question about how the 'tree-expansion' cookie works. The behaviour that prompted my question is this: using Mozilla 1.2.1, when browsing around a site which displays a tree, the state of the tree depends on where I am in the site. For example, at /position/a I might have collapsed half the tree. I go to /position/a/b and expand everything. If I then go to /position/a again, the tree is half-collapsed, the way I left it, instead of the way I set it while at /position/a/b. I checked the cookies Mozilla was holding, and saw that it had a 'tree-expansion' cookie for every path where I changed the state (i.e. every path where setCookie was called). I suspect this is because the cookie is set without a 'path' specification, and Mozilla is being conservative and restricting the cookie to the path where it is being set. request.RESPONSE.setCookie(request_variable, tree_expansion) To fix this situation for me, I can change ZopeTree to set the cookie's path to the path of the tree's root_object. Hello, I m developing a product that will do the following: My form has the following: ID, TITLE, FILE fields to fill out. After I have filled out the field, I click submit, I want to create a folder with the file I uploaded within the folder. My folder name will be the id, and the file id will be the file name. Currently, I am able to use my product to create a folder and a file, but I don't know now how to put the file within the folder. Help and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cannot connect to zope from zope server

Hi all, I have lost the ability to connect to zope from the server. I was logged in when I attempted to add a new folder I could not enter data in the input box. Upon clicking refresh I was told that I cannot connect to the server. I can connect from other machines so zope is alive. I went as far as rebooting the machine and get the same results. Where do I start to look to resolve this? Specs: SuSE 8.1 Zope 2.6.0 (built from source) Python 2.1.3 Thanks, Mike
