Material about Zope storages
by ratem＠censanet.com.br 11 Feb '03

Hi, I would like to organize material about Zope Storages (adaptable,FileStorage, TemporaryStorage, oracle etc). My intention is to compare the solutions, and have some deeper information on each of them. I have Shane Hathaway's presentation and notes already, but would like to have links to (more) material on each storage, and prepare an article or something like this. Can you guys help me with links/material/hints? Thanks in advance, Rogerio ------------------------------------------------- Esse mail foi enviado pelo Webmail CensaNET: http://www.censanet.com.br/webmail

How do I mimic an HTTP post from a script
by Marc Burgauer 11 Feb '03

11 Feb '03

Hi I'm sure that this question has been answered before, but searching the archive for a couple of hours, I could not find it. Yes, I'm new to python. I am using Zope 2.4 on Solaris. I need to send the input from a HTML form to a remote server as an HTTP post, but I first need to validate the inputs and convert them into an XML-formatted string. I want to do this in a python script. (I'm fine doing the XML formatting.) The "remote" post is currently of a fire-and-forget nature, but in the future might be changed to contain a response (success/failure=>post again). Cheers Marc PS: I'd be glad for recommendations of any good in depth "teaching" books on Python. I have the library references, but they are a bit brief for the un-initiated. (a convert from PHP, where I knew how to do this)

ZSyncer over HTTPS via Apache
by Ben Avery 11 Feb '03

11 Feb '03

hi, I'm about to put a system into production, and will continue to update the live site with ZSyncer. But I can't seem to get it to work behind an Apache 1.3.27 server running HTTPS using rewite rules. This is Zope 2.6.0, with Python 2.1.3 running on Solaris 8. When I try to sync, I get the following error: ~~~ There was a problem with that comparison. Error: * ProtocolError * <ProtocolError for 195.194.49.2:443/ZSync_Global: 404 Not Found> Things to check: * Your destination ZSyncer is where it is meant to be. * The destination server is running and accessible. * The user "" has the right to access ZSyncer. * The password for "" is correct. ~~~ it uses the same username and password as the development server, so that's not the problem. And I know that the Zsyncer server is working, as I can connect to it over HTTP, bypassing the Apache server. This won't be possible when the service is made live. Could anyone suggest what the problem is, or a solution? TIA Ben Avery

Why don't you download "Zope-2.6.1-win32-x86.exe", try to overwrite the Data.fs* of the new installation and install the Products that you're using? I made the same, but with the linux versions and it worked. I don't know about Windows, but you can try. <http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.6.1/Zope-2.6.x-to-2.6.1-src.tgz/view>Regards, Josef

xeon performance & GIL
by seb bacon 11 Feb '03

Hi all, I've sent this query to c.l.python without any answer yet. I wondered if anyone here can either inform me or correct me. Basically, I was wondering if SMT (hyperthreading) in a Xeon gives similar (bad) performance characteristics to SMP in CPU-bound python apps? I am hoping not, because my guess is that a context switch between hyperthreads is considerably cheaper than an intra-CPU switch. But seeing as my knowledge of this area is fairly limited, I could be entirely wrong... seb

RE: [Zope] Two Zopes, Two Domains
by Ken Dobruskin 11 Feb '03

>> Is it possible to run two Zopes - on ports 80 and 8080 - each >> with its own IP address (and domain name)? I may be wrong, but I >> don't believe the DNS is interested in port numbers... > Mark McEahern: > >Take a look at Z2.py's parameter list. I didn't think Zope had that much to do with it, rather that it was a DNS or OS question. Maybe my ISP has confused me, but currently, if I point a domain at an IP which is assigned to that machine, it goes to the Zope running on port 80. How can I direct one IP/domain to each Zope? Thanks, Ken
