complex property types

Hi, I'd want to add properties to a bunch of existing Zope objects, but these properties are in the form of nested mappings. Is there a possibility to do so with or without (by program) the ZMI ? I plan to store this as a string of text and evaluate it at runtime, but this is far from being optimal or easily maintainable. any idea ? Thanks in advance Jerome Alet -- (c) 1928-???? Thanks, the how-to was helpful. I managed to build a running Zope 2.6.1 using it, in /usr/local/Zope and it works fairly well, except for one glaring problem. I can't log into the management interface. Even with a new inituser and access, all logins fail. Is there something else I'm missing? Security in the "File Server" example

Hi All, I have a site based on the "File Server" example given in the default zope installation. If you view /Examples/FileServer/Files you will see a list of files and be given the opportunity to upload a new file. The perl scripts and header info etc are contained in the /Examples/FileServer directory. I have no problem adding users, folders and files, the problem is that I want to restrict access to some of the folders, say allow user1 to access the /Examples/FileServer/Files/1 subdirectory but not be able to see the /Examples/FileServer/Files/private subdirectory. I can't use the classical heirarchical security format and create the user "user1" in the "/Examples/FileServer/Files/1" subdirectory as "user1" needs to see into the "/Examples/FileServer/Files" subdirectory to access the scripts etc. I've temorarily solved the problem by using roles. The user subdirectories /Examples/FileServer/Files/1, /Examples/FileServer/Files/2 etc do not aquire their security settings. A role is created for each user and that role given the required access in each subdirectory. This is very inelegant but I can't seem to do it any other way. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Kind regards Ian

Weird but minor zsyncer or zope bug

I just noticed when I first visit a zsyncer page (zope 2.6.0, Mozilla 1.2.1), the stylesheet is missing. After performing an action (delete/sync/etc), it appears in the next page load. I've looked at the HTML output and it appears that something is actually removing the stylesheet link. The sync.dtml file looks like this: <HTML lang="en"> <HEAD> <TITLE>View ZSyncer</TITLE> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/manage_page_style.css"> </HEAD> The buggy view looks like this: <html lang="en"> <head> <title>View ZSyncer</title> </head> And the non-buggy output like this: <html lang="en"> <head> <title>View ZSyncer</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/manage_page_style.css"> </head> The tag downcasing appears to be a mozilla byproduct, but the missing link appears to be a zope action as the same behavior happens in IE6. Is zope rewriting the head section in any way beyond the <base> tag magic? The DTML doesn't have any logic at that point so I can't imagine why it would disappear.

Pre & post processing

I'm wondering what the "best" way to pre and/or post process all requests to either the entire Zope server or (better) a particular sub-tree of the content. I want to be able to verify that the request contains particular headers, that the session object is set-up with certain defaults, etc. etc. I'd like to be able to redirect the request if it doesn't meet certain requirements (at minimum, by raising an exception which ends up rendering standard_error_message). Suggestions? RTFM responses welcomed (as long as they specify what to read). Thanks, A.

HELP! Loop while calling Dispatch method using win32com

Just to provide another perspective... Most of the other lists I participate in ask that you respond personally to the individual who sent the original email. That person is supposed to summarize responses back to the group. This significantly decreases the volume of email traffic going to everyone... but it won't work if you have a lot of lazy people on the list who don't like to summarize. ZODB packing

Hi, My apologies if this is a FAQ, I asked Google first but found nothing satisfactory. I would like to execute a cron job to regularly pack the ZODB. As I don't want to use ZEO, I plan to use wget for this. Are there other alternatives I missed ?
