Reducing Zope Memory Usage

I have a small Zope/Squishdot installation which runs behind Apache. Zope/Squishdot is the only thing that I use the site for. Almost no one visits it. Yet my ISP (imeme) says I use an average of 120MB of memory, which it says is twice what I should be using. Is there some way I can adjust the settings on my Zope installation so that I use less average memory? Tracebacks in 2.6.x

Hello, all. Is it possible some how to get a programmer-readable good-old plaintext traceback directly in my page, instead that weird unusable list formatted stuff? It's driving me crazy step-by-step... :( P.S. I would like to look at his eyes, who had damaged my nice plaintext traceback. -- Regards, Bogdan Oh, and we just set fire to your desktop.

Having problems with the umlauts in Zope 2.6.0

Hi, in Zope 2.5.1 everything worked perfect. I stored texts in the string properties of my ZClasses with the special german characters (ä,ö,ü) and there weren't problems. Today I realized that when I tried to do it with my new Zope (2.6.0), it refuses to accept them. I look in the list and found that I could use: import sys sys.setdefaultencoding("latin-1") I put it in my z2.py script, but it says that sys doesn't havean attribute 'setdefaultencoding'. Even from the command line I get the same error. How can I solve this problem? Thanks in advanced, Josef

I'll give you some more detail: I've two objects to represent a project proposal (ProjectProposal) and a started project (StartedProposal). Users can create new proposals. This proposals can be taken by one or two students. When this happens, the owner of the proposal will convert it into a started proposal. The system will create a new StartedProposal object with the values of the old object, which will be deleted. Finally the user will be asked to write the name of the students and/or edit the old attributes. The problem is that if the name of the students contain an umlaut, you will see strange characters on its place. However, if you edit this object a second time, the strange characters will be gone. This worked before in zope 2.5.1, but with 2.6.1b2 it doesn't. What could be wrong? I've already set my unicode "latin-1" in sitecustomize.py Thanks, Josef

metal, macro, HTML entities

Hello-- How does one preserve an HTML entity (in this case, a numerical HTML entity such as X) that exists within a METAL macro as it is expanded? Is there a way to suppress the conversion of the ampersands to "&" in a macro when it is expanded by a call from a Zope page template? I have defined a macro that includes within it the following image tag, which itself includes HTML numerical entities I would like to preserve unaltered: <img class="middle" title="Address email to: XSCD@XSCD.COM" src="images/at-icon.jpg" width="32" height="27" alt="send email " /> When the macro is called by a page template and expanded, the entity "X" becomes "&#088;" which of course does not function as the original HTML entity would. I'm new to Zope, and trying to learn it from the start using only strict XHTML 1.1, CSS2 and TAL, METAL with no DTML (and learning Python too as I go along). Thank you, Steve D. New Mexico US

ZSyncer question

I'm running Zope 2.5.1 (py 2.1.3) on two different MOSX 10.2.3 servers. I wanted to synchronize them so I installed ZSyncer .0.4.6 on both. According to the instructions, this required simply dragging the ZSyncer folder into lib/python/products and restarting. I did this. Then, in the root level of server1, I added a ZSyncer instance and used the "Edit Server" tab to name server2 as the destination (http://server2:8080/) Both servers are up and running fine. However, when I click the "Sync" tab, I get an error message, "There was a problem synching the servers." I checked all the things on the "Things to check" list, and there's nothing wrong with my setup that I can tell. I even tried specifying my un/pw rather than letting it default to the current user. Cannot get file listing via Zope FTP on Windows 2000 Server

Hello, I have been developing a project for a client with Zope 2.6 /CMF 1.3/Plone 1 RC2 on Unix systems with no problems. It came time to move the project over to the clients Windows 2000 server (using the Plone 1.0 RC2 installer) and everything went fairly smoothly, but I can't seem to FTP to Zope (and I depend rather heavily on my FTP/Text editor). According to my FTP log my FTP clients can login just fine, but cannot get a file listing. I get a dialog that says "Connection refused (ECONNREFUSEDErr) (-3260)". The user that I am logging in as has Full access to the entire site. There IT staff is redirecting traffic from an external IP address to an internal IP address (they assure me that there is no port filtering/fire-walling going on). I have tried active and passive ftp. The port is set to 8021. I can see the port from my machine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. How to Disable the Unicode support in Zope? I know, Yes I know that people who doesn't want to use unicode is just short-sight people. But.... The adoption for Zope 2.6.X is painful and heavily time-consuming in fighting with the "unicode" FEATURE! :~~~~~ I have almost reinvented the wheel,programming from scratch, occasional comes out Unicode Error from unexpected **build in** functions. Embrace the "golbal market" is not the issue for me, at least for now. Does this world reserve space for short-sight people? Iap, Singuan

question re: HTTP 500 in MSIE

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Hello, First off, I know this is in the collector, number 382, but I'm wondering what others' experience is. I was using 2.5.1 and had a site using exUserFolder for authentication (pgAuth), and had no problems in Internet Explorer, even with IE option to 'Show friendly error messages'. As soon as I tried to migrate my site to Zope 2.6.1b2, I started getting the IE error message 500. The submitter of issue # 382 says the bug was seen in 2.4, so I'm wondering why no bug in 2.5.1 but now it's buggy in 2.6.1? Diffing HTTPResponse.py doesn't show anything that looks significant to me. I don't really like the option to edit HTTPResponse.py to return '200' instead of '500', but are others running into this and solving the problem this way? Thanks, Rob Boyd
