SSO using Zope?
by Andrew Kennel 01 Feb '03

01 Feb '03

I've been evaluating Zope as a possible corporate portal server for my company. I'm currently working on tying it to our existing directories via LDAP and have been very impressed. One feature I have not been able to find any reference re: Zope is SSO. (single sign-on) one of the primary uses of this portal would be the ability for my user's to sign in once and have the portal then pass their credentials on to external pages. Have there been any attempts at this using Zope? I've scoured the web sights, and the one book (Zope Bible) that I have. I'd like to know that what I need is possible/practicle using Zope before I devote too much more effort. Any pointers/URL links/RTFM page 243 comments would be most welcome. --Andrew

Inconsistent behaviour in DateTime comparisons
by Bill Anderson 01 Feb '03

01 Feb '03

I've got a PostgreSQL DB with date fields, and am using ZpsycopgDa (1.0.13) to connect Zope to it. What I am needing to do is to compare "now" with a date filed stored in the DB. I can get it out just fine, but the comparison is not consistent. I'm doing it in a a Script (Python). (m is smartbrains-enhanced ZSQL result) if DateTime().lessThan( m.expiresdate ): add m to a list else: pass return a list Sometimes it returns correctly, others it returns the opposite of what I want. Simply reloading the page has shown the switch happen -no change to the script. Any help appreciated. Bill -- Bill Anderson <bill(a)libc.org> Linux in Boise Club

getting info on permissions
by Rocky Burt 01 Feb '03

01 Feb '03

I'm currently in need of some code (for debugging reasons) that will show me what permissions are in affect for a give role in a given context. It needs to include acquired permissions as well. I've looked around for some api calls to get me this info. The closest thing I've found is context.permissionsOfRole(myRole). Unfortunately that only lists permissions defined for that role on that context, not the acquired ones as well. Am I going to have to traverse the tree and figure out acquired permissions myself? or is there an easier way? - Rocky -- __________________________________________________________________________ Rocky Burt Development, Director Bricsnet FM Americas - office: +1 (603) 559-2527 53 Green St - mobile: +1 (603) 512-9832 Portsmouth - fax: +1 (603) 436-5760 NH 03801 USA - email: rocky.burt(a)bricsnet.com __________________________________________________________________________

Re: [Zope] Restore database to certain date
by Dennis Allison 01 Feb '03

Jurgen Blurg <blurg(a)gluipzak.nl> wrote: Is is possible to restore my ZODB to a certain date? 2 days ago I deleted my plone site, this side was residing in a directory. After that I did a lot on Zope, including stuff in this parent dir of the previous plone site. When I try to undo things, I often have undoable transaction errors, even when I start with the last ten transactions, I constantly get errors. Am I able to restore the database to state of a certain date? Yes, provided you have not repacked the database. Stop Zope, make backup copies, and so forth so you can return to the current state if you need to. Use the tools in the utilities/ZODB and/or lib/python/ZODB to examine the database. I've used fsrecover.py. Determine the size of Data.fs at the point you want to rollback to. Use a utility (I used dd under linux) to truncate Data.fs to that size. Bring up Zope using the truncated Data.fs and you should be back in business.

Are there any formulator gurus here? The formulator mailing list seems dead, and I have some pressing questions. TAL: test() or condition Howto?
by Elena Schulz 31 Jan '03

31 Jan '03

Hi, I have the followong TAL-expression: <td tal:content="structure python:here.test(myImportantCondition and myExpensiveMethod(), myExpensiveMethod(), 'myDefaultString')">myDefaultString</td> To execute 'myExpensiveMethod()' 'myImportantCondition' must be 'true'. But I want to avoid to execute 'myExpensiveMethod()' two times. How can I achive that? As default-value myDefaultString should be served. I don't know a way with tal:condition 'cause on 'false' there is no way to get 'myDefaultString', isn't it? -- many thanks for your replies, Elena

RE: [Zope] Re: ZODB file size

I think I might also have seen a situation where dd worked to create a large file but tar didn't and ls output an incorrect file size (this was on Debian Potato / SPARC with a 64 bit 2.2 kernel and 32 bit user-space, likely becuase the C library didn't have LFS support and/or the apps I was running as compiled didn't use it). Making sure that your C library, kernel, and Python, and other tools have LFS support is a pain enough, but this is generally solved for you with any newer Linux distribution like Debian 3.0 (Debian python2.1 packages have LFS support - I have had 3-4 GB Data.fs files on a recent Debian box) and newer versions of RedHat. Yes, but it won't be enough if your linux doesn't support it. In this case you can try to use external access products like LocalFs, AdaptableStorage (Not sure about the spelling), ExtFile-ExtImage, DirectoryStorage, etc.. Or enabling Large File Support in your linux by migrating to Reiserfs (from suse), XFS (from sgi), JFS (from IBM), Ext3fs, etc.. An easy way to know if your linux support large files is to type: dd if=/dev/zero of=big_file_test bs=1024 count=2600000 * Make sure you have at least 3Gb free space. It will try to create a file (big_file_test) bigger than 2Gb. If you see: "File too large" it means your system doesn't support large files. Then, with the file you just create, you can follow this instructions to check if your python support LFS: http://www.zope.org/Members/beacon/install_instructions > And maybe check the mailing list > archive > since this question has been asked and answered several times. This one helps too ;) and perhaps checking linux newsgroups.
